Recruit (1/7)

  1. Anyone have any decent info on what's going on? I've seen a lot of Jensen at the rec working out with someone, but not sure who it is.
  2. Have some friends in town and they want to watch Game Six tonight at a sports bar that has a nice outdoors area to eat, grab a few beers AND watch the game. Is that magical combo a fantasy, or are there places in St. Louis like that?!?! Thanks, guys. Go Bills.
  3. It's a shame. Even Biondi went as far as to bypass the Avis Rent-a-Car at the airport the other day. Hertz? Not exactly.
  4. I had Dr. Meyer for a creative writing class and he always graded papers in green pen and as a bunch of us fellow A&Sers are waiting in line at graduation, there's Dr. Meyer with a green pen for all of his students, just like the ones he used to grade papers. I still haven't used it to this day, and it's going on 4 years since my undergrad career came to an end. Dr. Meyer is a wonderful man who has been through a lot over the years and he has always been a bastion for the truth and what is right and a light in the darkening world of academia and university administration.
  5. Interesting in that it doesn't relate to Saint Louis University basketball? Yep.
  6. Stanford, Penn State Highlight 2008 Volleyball Slate Kordes puts together loaded non-conference schedule Hot off the wire: June 4, 2008 ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis head volleyball coach Anne Kordes took the old saying, "To be the best, you have to compete against the best," to heart when she put together the 2008 slate. This season, the Billikens will play some of the top volleyball programs in the country, including 2007 NCAA Tournament title-match participants Penn State and Stanford. SLU's 2008 schedule features nine conference champions, nine NCAA Tournament participants and 10 teams with at least 20 victories last season. "We've been able to put together one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country this season," Kordes said. "I'm excited about it, and our players are fired up for the challenge. Our goal is to put this program in a position to be nationally ranked, and to do that we have to play a tough non-conference schedule. Season after season, we have to compete against teams that get into the NCAA Tournament and that are nationally ranked in order to get our program to that point. We also want to be among the best teams in our conference, and to reach that goal we must challenge ourselves before the conference slate begins." The Bills open the season at the Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Classic in Oxford, Ohio, on Friday, Aug. 29. SLU faces the host Redhawks twice before taking on Stephen F. Austin in the tournament finale. In 2007, MU earned an NCAA Tournament bid after capturing the Mid-American Conference Tournament title, while Stephen F. Austin finished first in the West division of the Southland Conference regular-season race. Saint Louis welcomes Illinois, William & Mary and Stanford, the nation's winningest volleyball program, to the Chaifetz Arena Pavilion on Sept. 5-6 for the annual Billiken Invitational, the first SLU athletic event in the University's new facility. The Cardinal finished with the nation's top RPI en route to a runner-up finish at the 2007 NCAA Tournament. SLU will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, to compete in the Utah Classic beginning Friday, Sept. 12. The Billikens will face the host Utes, Utah State and 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Purdue before heading across the country for the Penn State Classic in State College, Pa. Saint Louis takes on New Hampshire and Yale prior to facing the reigning national champion Nittany Lions in the tournament finale.
  7. I know there's a camp of people who are for dorm expansion, and with the SLUAruba pools/sand volleyball adjacent to West Pine, that would be a great spot for an upper-class dorm, but I know there is a camp of people who still are under the impression SLU is a suitcase school where people all go home for the weekends. It's definitely not that way anymore, thanks to the efforts of Fr. Biondi, our marketing and development people and our wonderful admissions reps. I think West Pine drops within five years and a new dorm, hopefully called Alumni Hall, goes up instead.
  8. What is the policy for banning posters? Doesn't seem like his comments are worthy, but if the wrong people take offense, then it might be time for our S.S. guard to go.
  9. Does anyone think there are some eerie similarities between Kevin White leaving Notre Dame and Cheryl leaving Saint Louis? Both suffered through image distortions when their respective University presidents, in White's care, Fr. John I. Jenkins, CSC, going over the AD to fire Tyrone Willingham. We all know Cheryl's dilemma, but I think both are going to be better off in the ACC.
  10. When you think about it, no one has any inside info. I mean, we're always second to the scoop. If we had any inside info, we'd be on the bench. Also, more accolades for Larry Hughes, SLU attendee: http://allonthefield.blogspot.com/2008/02/...iddy-combs.html
  11. Flower child? Awesome name...Honey Brown... Shimmy, Honey. Honey, Shimmy.
  12. Good one picking out Hype Machine but elbo.ws is the better mp3 music blog site. Got a couple of the new Coldplay leaks there. Try "Lost" on for size...good stuff.
  13. Nice pickup for Herb(al Essence) Sendek in Tempe. Arizona State head men's basketball coach Herb Sendek has announced the hiring of Lamont Smith to the ASU staff, as he replaces 12-year assistant coach Mark Phelps who earned the Drake head coaching position in April. Coach Sendek also has announced that Dedrique Taylor has been promoted to Associate Head Coach and assistant Scott Pera has added the title of recruiting coordinator. Taylor and Pera have been a part of Coach Sendek's staff in each of his first two seasons in Tempe. Also, technology coordinator Rob Spence will now handle operations, replacing Mike Gibson who went to Drake as an assistant coach. "We are excited to have Lamont Smith join our staff and at the same time be in position to reconfigure our other staff positions. We most certainly welcome his energy and passion to be a Sun Devil," said Coach Sendek, who led ASU to a 13-win turnaround in his second season, tied for the best mark in the nation. "We once again will have a compatible and determined coaching staff." Smith was at Santa Clara in 2007-08 as former UCLA assistant coach Kerry Keating's top assistant and helped recruit one of the top classes in the West Coast Conference last summer. Prior to Santa Clara, Smith spent six seasons as an assistant on the staff of Randy Bennett at Saint Mary's College as the Gaels completed one of the nation's best turnarounds in a four-year period. SMC was 2-27 the year before Bennett and Smith arrived, and the Gaels won nine games the first year, 15 the second, 19 in the third and a school record 25 in 2004-05. The 2004-05 team made the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in the history of the program while the 2003-04 team set a school record by scoring 2,377 points. In the first four seasons he was at SMC, the Gaels led the WCC in scoring defense. With the Gaels, Smith's duties included working with the post players, assisting with the strength and conditioning program, recruiting and scouting. Smith, a native of The Colony, Texas, returned to the West Coast Conference in 2001 after spending two years as the graduate assistant coach at Saint Louis University. Smith began his coaching career under the tutelage of current Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar at Saint Louis. While at Saint Louis, Smith was an assistant coach on the same staff as Randy Bennett, who brought Smith with him to Saint Mary's when he took the head coaching job there in 2001. Smith's duties with the Billikens included coordinating the team's video editing and film exchange, while assisting with team recruiting, scouting and strength and conditioning programs.
  14. Had a chance to watch the Bills feature on FSN the other night and I thought it was produced very well and a tip of the cap to FSN for making it happen. When the best baseball players in the St. Louis area get hounded by the Big XII and the Valley, it's tough to have a good squad, as Hughes found out. But with going down to Jupiter every year to play the Parent Squad, a lot of homegrown St. Louis guys might stay home and play for the Bills if they know they're going to get in front of MLB scouts every spring. Coach Hendrickson will be a valuable tool for the University, so I hope he stays put for a while! The relationship between the Cardinals and Saint Louis University has always been solid, so hopefully this will only strengthen those ties.
