  1. Do you have any idea who is on our updated short list? I'm still not sure we've offered Powell given the contradictions that have been posted here, ie Pdiddy (who I trust) says we have, V-time says not because if we did he'd have signed on the spot????? Seems Pullen is a longshot and the other kid from the east we wanted is going to Cross. Also, didn't a PF from California sign w/ someone else as well? Heck, I don't even know who we're after.
  2. Interesting that the AAU coach says, our kids will think about mid majors where they may have more success...refreshing in that you don't have to go to a Duke or UNC in order to make your mark in college ball. I've often wondered about the 3-4 guys that ride the pine for the biggies. They must have been highly recruited kids and then spend the majority of their time being practice fodder for the five star kids that come rolling in every year. UNC could have that problem this year. Is Frasor going to beat out the all world pg they are bringing in?
  3. My post above was no knock on DP. If he finds his shot, any shot, that would be huge and he probably would start. But as someone said, he's had two years of airballs and clinkers. This from a kid who scored 38 ppg in a state championship game to personally carry his team to the title. When DP came in I thought we were getting a Tim Smith type guard. He's got the speed, handles, and quickness, but his defender is not afraid to let him shoot from just about anywhere on the court. AS for LM starting, I just think UB's going to be more comfortable with a player who plays within his system and gives a 110% when he's out there. That is LM in a nutshell.
  4. Sounds to me as if it's 3 in the running. Go Brad. Huggy will be hard to beat, unless his parents know that Huggy's teams are basically made up of reform school grads and instead of atetnding a graduation ceremony they attend a probation hearing.
  5. If VTIME is to be believed UB didn't even need to have him visit. He would have signed last year if offered. He wants to come to SLU that bad.
  6. Have to agree w/Nark here. The season doesn't come down to DP's finding his missing shot. No doubt that would be a plus, but finding a competitive 4 to take pressure off IV is the most important issue with this team. I still think the 3 guards are going to be KL, TL, and LM. I'd like to see DB make that next leap forward, but until he proves it on the floor, he's going to be the 6th man.
  7. Metz, very bad taste. Phan "I'm sure Metz was just joking around." Since when did someone getting critically wounded become a joking matter? Amazing, your parents should have spanked you more often.
  8. again in Manhattan. Just read on CNNSI that Bill Walker, OJ Mayo's teammate and #6 in the country for the class of 2007, may be graduating in December and enrolling at, you guessed it, Kansas State University for the spring semester. Actually, you can't blame the kid, since Ohio has ruled he's inelgible for HS ball this season. Hey, you gotta play somewhere, might as well be in Manhattan ....uh ... Manhattan, Kansas that is.
  9. You can't argue too much with his assessment. I'd say on paper UMass and GW might appear to have an edge on us. We still have two big holes to fill: the 4 and another perimiter shooter.
  10. Year 5 Altmann cracks the NCAA bubble and stays there for like 5 straight years. UB does that ,we'll all be dancing in the street naked like a certain Detroit Lions coach. Billiphan can bring the depends for us old guys.
  11. Well, Tatum had some baggage as I recall, but has since turned it around. Ok, I can see passing there. But, Ahern, c'mon who wouldn't love to see him as the 2 or 3, especially off the bench?
  12. Ragincajun, give us evidence of HD's lack of ability, as in you've seen it, and his struggle to stay in school. As for JJ, he's a loose cannon who forgets what is told to him in practice and in the huddle. He then does his own thing, ala Villenueva, and promptly gets yanked. If he understood his role and embraced it, JJ would have been a starter last year and a lock for this year. How about Obi, is he our next Floyd McLain?
  13. The day he took the job...he said something like "a national championship is possible here"...I didn't say he promised one, nor do I ever expect he'll deliver one. But, I do expect better than two nit's every 4 years.
  14. Doc, top 25 is "mythical" in that while it may influence the dance committee it's not cast in stone. I'd guess very few programs over the last 10-15 years have made it every year. Duke, Connecticut, AZ, KS come to mind but am not sure even they did this. UNC didn't make it a couple of years, UCLA had a dry spell, same w/ Louisville. I don't think Gonzaga made it until their recent success in the NCAA. Granted, it was a thrill seeing us in there under Spoon, even as a team worthy of others receiving votes, but I'd rather see our name on a bracket line every year.
  15. With our schedule, I'd like to think it means invite, so it would be disappointing. Worth chopping UB's head off? Probably not, unless his recruiting class is a flop...then you've got to think maybe he ain't the man. Eventually there has to be results, 3star, and that's making the dance. One of two things has to happen by April. We make the dance, or the incoming class at least looks good on paper. Then he gets year 6 to make the dance. No dance in 2007-08, enough's enough. Yet there are guys that will argue one more chance to land the area's great recruits in 2008. Again, this all comes down to what is a reasonable time to develop a top 50 program...5, 6, 7, 10 years? Remember, it was UB who said a national championship was doable at SLU.
  16. What's a total collapse vs total disappointment, Broy? Total disappointment to me is this team doesn't make the dance. Collapse would be a repeat of of 2004-05. You can't honestly say you'd be 100% behind him if he fails to take us dancing and delivers a highly suspect recruiting class, can you?
  17. and another mid major makes the list. By my count still a lot of Major BCS schools left for the final 27 spots. Could it be we're gonna show in the low 50's? At first I thought 70's.
  18. Ditto to Dr. B. That was my post until it ran smack into the dreaded "SCRIPT ERROR" monster. C'mon V'time no one cares.
  19. Let's give UB a pass this year and not judge until April. Contrary to the Young Lions posting here, we are not kool aid drinkers. I can only think of maybe 3-4 posters who would be willing to see UB stay for a sixth season if we don't make the dance and we don't have a promising incoming class. They may argue for stability but they don't want "stable mediocrity" anymore than you do, hardball.
  20. We all need patience right now. We can't judge UB until this season is over, and we see what the incoming class looks like in the spring. Face it, if we make the dance, his job is safe no matter if no one signs in the fall. If he doesn't make it, and the incoming class looks good on paper, he's probably safe as well. No dance...no promising class....time to move on. But this decision comes in April not now.
  21. So right in that we will probably always come out second to a BCS'er for top talent. Face it, landing the Legend had a lot more to do with SLU hospital than his desire to come here. If not for his brother, he's at Syracuse or Kansas. I think UB did a great job landing KL and TL. Also, his judgement on IV worked out pretty well. As I understand it, TL and KL were not top 100's because they avoided the AAU circuit in HS. When TL did play AAU that's when others came knocking. So they are hidden gems which, until we start winning on a consistent basis, is the types UB needs to land. Everyone talks about the great class of 2008 in SLU. Now maybe the new arena will help us in landing Brandenburg, Suggs, Griffey, et al, but still very much up in the air with the likes of Kansas, Illinois, even Mizzou courting these guys.
  22. Well, no doubt there are exceptions. Gonzaga, Marquette, X all do well w/o football. I still believe the top talent gravitates toward the BCS'ers primarily because they have the best TV deals and get the most pub. That's not a spinoff from football, see Kentucky and Duke, just that the networks know these schools have a huge fan base which translates into big ratings and increased ad revenue.
  23. http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/9632023/2 Interesting thoughts by Martelli. How do the non BCS schools compete w/ College football, which is no doubt the biggest spectacle in all sports.
