  1. I’d be wary of any more FR unless they’re a game changer. They’re likely gonna sit, get ticked off, and then leave. Fill it out with experienced guys to provide cover for injuries. Find an Avila in training and he’ll likely stay because Robbie may go pro after this season. His backup will then see potential minutes in his future and likely stay.

Toward the end of last season, Thames showed an ability to drive into the lane and then pull up over a big to hit a ten foot shot.  I hope Schertz sees that when reviewing film and encourages that aspect of his game.  If so, and if he improves his three point shooting, I think Thames could have a big breakout season.

Plus, didn’t Schertz coach up a couple of his starters? Or at least his system worked out well for them.

It happens a lot more than you'd think. Guys participate in an open gym and everyone realizes "Ah he's actually not good/good fit/good attitude/whatever." Or guys come in and theres some sort of demand made for playing time, a new John Deere tractor, or a specific position that the staff doesn't line up with. Or guys come in and they themselves realize "I'm not good enough to get playing time here" and drop their interest.

Hell, a Deere tractor would be a bargain today.

Robbie led Indiana State in assist percentage last season.  I'm not super worried about a traditional PG in the Yuri or Medley mold.  Just need a guard or guard(s) who can shoot well and pass well.  Schertz isn't going to have one guy initiating the offense every time down.

Handles to break presses would be nice. Larry Jr needs to work on his handles and passing.

  5. When I was st SLU in the dark ages the pecking order was SLUH guys looked down at  CBC guys who looked down at DeSmet guys who looked down at Vianney guys. The only ones I remember. One of my best friends was a Vianney grad and constantly said Vianney kids could buy and sell all the Catholic boys schools and have enough left over to buy the all the Catholic girls schools. For some reason which Catholic school you went to was always one of the first questions asked when you met someone new. Being from Maine I made up my school St Downeast. Our mascot was a Lobster.

  6. I think a preseason Gateway Classic tourney is a great idea. Run it like the Charleston tourney where the 3 known state BB schools, USC, Clemson, and CoC, rotate being the host school. We could do the same with Mizzery, Illini, and SLU alternating as hosts. Charleston Classic always gets at least 4 P5 big name schools.

  7. While I agree, the reality is many colleges are identified by their sports program’s achievements and not their academic or scientific breakthroughs. The Ivies are considered bastions of academics and knowledge, but when you mention say Alabama the majority of people think of FB and not any scientific, medical, or academic achievements the school might have earned over the years. The fact is people aren’t buying season tickets to watch scientists hunkered over their microscopes in a lab.
