  1. Does anybody else wonder, as I do, whether the hiring of two assistant coaches with head-coaching experience might be the first step in showing pretty Quin the door at Mizzou?
  2. ...to exit the building as soon as possible after the game in order to make way for the Blues, I am reminded of this eternal truth: "Hockey is a waste of perfectly good basketball space."
  3. ...but it's been a long time since I laced up my Chuck Taylor Converse All-Stars. As StLCardinal notes, any game involving my "jump" shot would probably have to come with a Parental Advisory: Do Not Attempt This Yourself. To borrow (and paraphrase) a bit of wisdom from Whitey Herzog, "basketball's been pretty good to me since I stopped trying to play the game." On the other hand, it would be fun to share a beer and swap some tales with Easy Ed...even if Taj and bonwich showed up at the same pub. ;-)
  4. According to one of your players, you won the game... http://desmoinesregister.com/sports/storie...5/23821589.html
  5. Izik and Ian were both disoriented by the weird trapezoidal "international" lane painted on the floor. Both thought they were back home...and therefore, were playing kinda like they thought defense was an option...
  6. I thought the atmosphere was great (especially when 0:00 was showing on the clock!). But the scoreboard left a LOT to be desired. Even on those rare occasions when the timekeeper had the clock and the score correct, the scoreboard itself was difficult to read. Let's hope we do much better with respect to that piece of equipment in our new building!
  7. Scrivener will be there...along with Scriv's Daughter and Son...and assorted Scriv relatives. What better place to have a Family Reunion than in Section 109...Row L...of the Family Arena? Go, Billikens! Beat the Hawkeyes!
  8. ...this is a dream: A come-from-behind Billiken victory on the road.... But then, Too has to resurface...and turn my sweet dreams into a bit of a nightmare. Oh, well...even Too's drivel can't spoil this pleasant Saturday. Go, Bills! Beat the Bearcats!
  9. What's up with Izik, anyway? During the first half, it looked like he could have his way with the Demons. They had no answer for him. In the second half, he disappeared. Should Brad be working extra hard on figuring out a way to make Izik more productive? Or will Izik be an enigma forever... and therfore, not worth the extra coaching effort?
  10. Don't you think "quando" ("when...if ever") is the obvious choice for a Billiken fight song?
  11. I thought "ubi" meant "where"...not "when". You know, as in "semper ubi sub ubi"...Always wear underwear...
  12. ...but who's the haughty-looking pancake-flipper? And why does he appear to have one hand on Steve's wallet?
  13. bonwich, Perhaps your tale sheds some light on our erstwhile (twice-removed) coach's affection for the Bearcat-in-Chief. I never could figure out why Spoon fawned over Huggins so, in their post-game chats. Could be the answer lies in three or four rounds of single-malt scotch, on Huggy's tab. As for Huggins' obvious esteem for our (ex)guy...no real mystery there: What's not to love about a coach whose team you tend to beat like a drum?
  14. MU to USM: First We Steal Your Mascot, Then We Take Your Home Games
  15. MU Geography Majors Say: Marquette is Located In The (Big)EAST and You Gotta Head NORTH To Get To Southern Mississippi
  16. ...SignGuy knows a thing or two about whether current college students -- "in the prime of their lives" -- get tired from time to time. Last Saturday night, he didn't look like he was relishing that 8 a.m. flight back to D.C. at all! ;-)
  17. ...as Brad pointed out on the post-game show last night, Marquette gets an extra home game this year, thanks to their scheduling shenanigans with S. Miss. Wouldn't that be a hoser, if that (potential) win is what separates them from us and S. Miss?
  18. No offense taken, Roy. It was way too loud in there to have a conversation anyway...and way too good a ballgame to spend a lot of time on chit-chat. It was fun to put some faces with names, though. We should try it again sometime...and maybe I can coax Mrs. Scriv out of the house... ;-)
  19. Yes, Taj, it is I in Pic #1 -- and thanks for noticing the gray hair. The tall kid next to me is my son Brian, AKA stlcardinal, and next to him is his buddy Andy, AKA SLUradioboy, and Andy's friend Leslie -- clearly a rose among thorns.
  20. I tend to agree: Ramsey's game calls are good enough that he remains -- on balance -- an asset to SLU Basketball. But the more I hear about his "off-the-cuff" remarks, the more I'm inclined to agree with the previously-expressed assessment that Bullet Bob may suffer from frequent brain cramps. I enjoy his broadcasts. But I wish he'd think just a bit before he opens his mouth in other situations (e.g., KFNS, Dayton pre-game). It just doesn't make sense for him to talk the program down. It's not good for the Billikens...and it's not good for his own career.
  21. ...to include effective merchandising of our beloved Billiken mascot on your wish list. No offense intended SignGuy, but it boggles the mind to think that the best Billiken wearable I've seen in the past 5 years has come from the "amateur" ranks.
  22. I guess it remains to be seen how it plays out, but Gregory wasn't shy about calling out some of his seniors in the Dayton paper. [link:www.daytondailynews.com/sports/content/sports/ud/daily/0101udbb.html] Let's hope the coach gets his players' attention...and the Flyers keep piling up the wins. http://www.daytondailynews.com/sports/cont...y/0101udbb.html
  23. We hosted a dinner party last night, so I didn't have the chance to listen to the game in progress. But it sure is sweet to wake up to this result on New Year's Day! A big Bills road win makes it a lot easier for me to keep my resolution -- not to take quite so much delight in Mizzou's travails. I'll take a Billiken victory any day!
  24. ...you're right: Assuming my lovely daughter wouldn't be more embarrassed than she normally is when attending Billiken games. After all, now she can sit alongside Scrivener anonymously at the Savvis Center. Plausible deniability, I think it's called. But I'll be in touch with her, and let you know about the t-shirt order.
