  1. In response to the statement of why did he leave early ... It has nothing to do with Maurice Clarrett or what he can make. BD wasn't going to play in the NFL. He was one of the top 5 players in the NCAA and felt he needed to continue to challenge himself. His career is as a soccer player and he can finish college at any time if he chooses and he isn't eating at the DFW soup kitchen. The questions about early entry in the NFL have more to do with maturity ... both mentally and physically. Clarrett has played 9 or 10 college games and didn't hold up so well through those games. I also beleive the NFL should have every right to set rules on who is eligible to be drafted. Sorry but our government is involved in too much as it is. All companies should be free to hire and fire as they please. If a company is discriminating let the court of public opinion and the accompanying dollar decide it's fate. Soccer is not dominated by big bodies anywhere ... some leagues are a little more physical than others ... but speed kills. I do not follow european soccer much in the last 10 years ... so I will defer to someone who knows more to provide more insight than that. SLUBALLS ? I am in agreement with sluballs that BD is coming into his own and is finally playing at midfield where he should be. He is a great distributor with outstanding vision and above average ball skills. He is fast ... but not exceptionally so. At center midfield he doesn't need to be. He does need people with skill around him ... think of a great point grd on a lousy team. The US National team has not ever had a consistent center midfielder who can dominate play and the pace of a game. Reyna has had his moments but is too injury prone and inconsistent while occasionally showing flashes of brilliance. In time I think BD could be this guy ... he is only 22?. The talent level in the US has increased so drastically the last few years that it is hard to break onto the Nat'l team roster. So don't think because you haven't seen him there he is not successful. BD is one of the best players on the U23 team and will continue to move up ... he will be a star and he will be playing in world cup matches ... Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  2. Red Robin also has unlimited fries ... not that I ever eat more than 1 helping though Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  3. Talent is subjective ... and education can be a prerequisite ... and age can also ... just not in individual cases ... a company can certainly have prerequisites to hiring. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  4. I agree ... why would they have any obligation to draft him wether he was eligible or not. I don't get the whole thing even with Clarett ... they ought to be able to say everyone is eligible ... we just choose not to draft anyone that doesn't meet certain requirements. Also talent level is subjective. Many firms have prerequisites to hiring why should any pro league be different. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  5. I may be going ... but won't know until Sat morning ... maybe I'll see you there Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  6. Exactly what I was looking for ... Thanks Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  7. I am playing in a fantasy baseball league for the first time ... anyone know of any site that gives future projected starters for the next 4 or 5 days. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  8. I agree it probably isn't #1 ... but it is good. Chicago has a proven closer Borowski had 33 saves last year with an era under 3.0 and almost a k per inning. Not a big name but looks good to me. We cannot overly rely on our bullpen we need our starters to go 6 ... not 4,5 or 6. They also need to obviously keep us in the game. Offensively we are off to a very good start ... but we have a lot of questions ... Will Ray's shortened swing keep him more consistent, will his body hold up? How many games will Reggie play? Can Womack continue to get on base and play well defensively. We aren't as bad as we showed against Milwaulkee ... but we also won't hit like we did against Arizona all year. Baseball is a game of ups and downs and streaks ... prolong the positive and minimize the negatives. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  9. The NBDL developmental league should be a place where the kid who has aspirations to play in the NBA and may have the "upside" to do so should play if they have no interest in being a college student. Even if they don't make the NBA thaey can make more money than they would probably make working elsewhere with only a HS diploma and get to play ball. I wasn't close to good enough or didn't want college so I went in the Air Force ... I would have given anything to be able to play basketball for a living ... and I would have made at least what I made as an enlisted Airman. As I got older I could have went to school if I decided I wanted to. You don't have to get a scholarship to go to college. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  10. More teams are in the playoffs now ... but only one team wins the pennant. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  11. Regardless of experience ... Worrell was good back then. Whitey had nothing to do with that. Regardless of ownership ... you don't quit on your team mid season. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  12. I'm in between on Whitey ... you don't have to hit home runs to win. I think he was a very good Mgr ... but he was inconsistent and wether that is due to him overacheiving in good years or underacheiving in lean years is up to debate ... I think it is probably a little of both. We were always very good defensively and had adequate starting pitching with a great bullpen and closer ... not much pop ... but a lot of doubles and plenty of speed in a huge ballpark. My opinion of him went down quite a bit when he quit on the team. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  13. I want to door more than hope ... so I hope not Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  14. Favorite ... Marque Overacheiver ... Jeff Harris Underacheiver ... Corey Frazier Hated ... Fortson Honorable mention for favorite H. Waldman ... of course since I am his official sponsor. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  15. Roy ... I think you are right Baylor was a special case and was given special consideration from the NCAA ... He would have to sit a year. I would rather pass on him ... but on the flip side ... it could put us in very good favor with Floyd ... bailing his guy out of a bad situation and a decent player to boot ... then again ... what if he couldn't start ... 16. I thought those were the most positive remarks I have heard him say regarding SLU ... if that article is correct we are without a doubt the front runner. We just have to hope no one else sweeps him off of his feet. He does seem very well grounded and like a great guy. If he is friends with Tommie then he probably knows Duane ... aren't Tommie and Duane good friends. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  17. I don'r see how you can have a standfast rule ... If The 2 would not have picked up their 3rd fouls we would be talking about why there are times when you should leave them in. This was one game and he gambled and it didn't work. Had he taken them out UConn may have closed the gap and taken a lead and won the game anyway. I think it depends on how foul prone the player is ... and do you have a place where you can hide him defensively. It also depends on what is happenning in the game. I would have taken them out ... but the flow of the game would have dictated wether or not they came back in ... at least one of them. Games are not just won or lost in the last 5 minutes. In the SMS game ... I would have sat Reggie initially ... and it would have been a tough decision on when to put him back in. With Reggie it is not just his defense where he fouls ... he commits an awful lot of offensive fouls. I do know I would not have let the opponents lead get to over 6 or 8 points with Reggie on the bench. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  18. I am also with the home and home or no play folks. Our goal is to make the NCAA tourney on a yearly basis ... there are many other schools that can help us accomplish the same thing that would probably give us a home and home series. From the looks of things this year you can get a pretty good SOS without having to play top 10 calliber teams ... just don't play any really bad ones either ... I think we should try not to play any teams with RPI's over 150 out of conference. Then play a couple of top 25's and a couple of top 50's. Now of course being a used car guy ... if the money is huge .... Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  19. So you think sometimes Edmonds doesn't want to hit? Edmonds is certainly a streaky hitter ... and I do not understand the fundamentals of a swing enough to make an educated contribution as to why ... but Jimmy gives his all every time he steps on the field ... to say otherwise is ridiculous. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  20. I'm not praising Tony ... actually I dislike him and his Numbers game very much ... He does not seem to have a feel for the game ... making changes based upon the numbers alone. I don't dislike Whitey ... in fact the opposite ... but he had his drawbacks also ... one of them being the inconsistency of his teams... but I would take Whitey right now over Tony I would like to see us get someone who is a good evaluator of young talent ... we need to rebuild our farm system ... I know we restructured it maybe we are taking the first step to improve. Tony's style of going with Vets will never be able to field a domninate team due to payroll restrictions ... we are never going to be in the top few in Baseball in payroll ... Vets make too much money and we end up being short somewhere else ... a better mix of quality youngsters will lead to a more balnced team Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  21. I've noticed a lot of growt in Freddie Adu over the last 3-4 years ... as a matter of fact a couple of days ago I was watching a clip of him 4 years ago and he certainly seems much bigger. I think he may be on the roids ... you know how the younger players are ... anything for an edge. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  22. What do you think ... I'll take Gibby in 75 over Pedro in 2013. Even if Pedro was winning Gibby would just go over and kick his a$$ and win by default Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  23. 1 game ...7th game of the world series I take Gibby Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
  24. I don't think Womack has the greatest on base percentage ... but no worse than our recent history. What he will do is work the pitcher ... make him throw his arsenal and pitch count. Making him throw all his pitches is huge as the on deck batter gets a great look as does the rest of the team. Womack is a nice fit at second defensively also ... you are not going to get all stars at every position unless you can afford the Yankees payroll. I think this is the make or break year for LaRussa ... he also has a starting staff tailored for what is suppossed to be McKay's strength. Also ... Whitey only won 1 of 3 series ... I am not the biggest fan there either ... if he was so good ... how come he only won every other year ... his team quit on him and he quit on them. He was good ... but not what StL makes him out to be. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
