  1. "I say we accept immediately. The best that we could hope for is a basketball centered conference." I think you'll see that sentiment expressed several more times today. Travel is still a bear but the kids have been dealing with that in CUSA for years. That's nothing new.
  2. An 150 mile radius would encompass Springfield and Peoria on the Illinois side. I don't believe we've ever gotten players from those areas before, but better late than never. Richard McBride, Andre Iguadola and Marcus Heard hail from Springfield while Shaun Livingston, Marcellus Sommerville, Frank Williams and Sergio McClain are Peoria kids.
  3. Structural engineering is a subset of civil engineering.
  4. I looked up Park's engineering departments. Maybe I was too hasty. Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department of Aerospace Technology Department of Aviation Science Department of Biomedical Engineering Department of Computer Science Department of Electrical Engineering The only major disciplines missing are civil and chemical engineering. Falker is a civil engineering major.
  5. Well thicks did say this about Ian "Ian Vouyoukas - he's a presence in the lane....blocked or altered a number of shots" He isn't into hyperbole so I doubt the gushing samples you wrote would ever come from his keyboard about any player.
  6. "from your post, it almost sounds as the most productive inside player out of fericks, varner, ian, johnson and husak would be varner" It was a pickup game, Roy. Varner wasn't playing inside, he was shooting from outside, like he's been doing at pickup games for the past two years. Kenny Brown rarely scored in pickup games because the guards would settle for jumpers instead of passing him the ball.
  7. "The article said Shaw wants to major in engineering" Yikes, I think we're done folks.
  8. Sloan scored a lot in the Vashon summer league, too. Kid must be eating his spinach. Ian Mooney played for Austin St. Michaels just in case anybody was wondering. Sounds like a parochial school.
  9. What do you mean by "the area"? Within 100 miles? Within 200 miles?
  10. "Local" in my mind is the St. Louis metro area. Bloomington, IL is 160 miles away. I know you like Sargent but it's hard for me to consider a junior who has never played varsity a high major prospect.
  11. I was speaking of St. Louis Metro kids - Poplar Bluff is 150 miles away. As you already know, Tyler is a top 10 player being recruited by the likes of Florida and North Carolina, so we really never had a chance.
  12. Agreed. Tommie Liddell is in our backyard. Jamal Sampson was not. The only high major D-1 juniors that I know of are Lisch, 6-2 G Nathan Whittaker from Sullivan and 6-7 PF Matt Akins from Jennings. Hopefully Cape Central will play a road game here so we can get a look at their 6'8 post, Scott Chesnutt.
  13. If Lisch never plays summer ball, he may never be ranked in the top 100. It's going to be tough for Kyle Kirk to get in the top 100 now that he'll be playing for the Springfield Heat rather than the St. Louis Eagles. But they are definitely top 100 players.
  14. SIU has been recruiting Matt the longest and his high school coach has a good relationship with Painter. This will be a tough get.
  15. I was kind of miffed that the staff waited until August to extend a formal offer but they're doing a great job of following through.
  16. It's almost impossible to get ranked in the top 100 when you miss large chunks of the summer evaluation period. Tommie played in the Tournament of Champions in May but after that he was in summer school. Westinghouse swingman Jamarcus Ellis missed the summer also and gurus removed him from their top 100. Ellis was 1st Team All-State as a junior last year.
  17. Tommie already plays point forward at East St. Louis. Having multiple people in the backcourt capable of triggering the offense is a good thing. It makes a team harder to guard.
  18. I've got no problem with Frank but I think Martin Kilcoyne would do a good job.
  19. The next Larry Hughes in a 200 mile radius is Tyler Hansbrough. Unfortunately he won't be coming here. But if players like Clarke, Polk and Meyers continue to commit, we could be the next Wisconsin.
  20. "while pitt, dayton and wisconsin dont have any player that jumps out at you, there solid depth is unquestioned" What solid depth? Dayton and Wisconsin played only 7 players for most of last year. Pittsburgh only played eight.
  21. Pittsburgh, Stanford, Dayton, Memphis and Wisconsin were all Top 25 teams last year without anyone averaging over 17 ppg.
  22. How close is Liddell to qualifying? If summer school has raised his GPA to a 2.5, all he needs on the upcoming ACT is a 17. According to the Journal Star Tribune, Draelon Burns already has a 2.5 GPA but hasn't taken the ACT yet. I doubt Shaw makes a decision until he makes his official visit to SIU on Oct 2. They've been recruiting him the longest and his high school coach is pretty friendly with Matt Painter. I'm surprised to see SLU scheduling an official visit for yet another juco player in Brandon Polk. I hope the lad got a head start on his credit requirements by taking summer classes so we don't run into another Brandon Morris situation. His senior high school stats playing in the largest school classification in Kansas were pretty impressive: 19.7 ppg and 10 rpg. http://prepzone.com/stories/031702/pre_boysstars.shtml
  23. There is a 6'8 junior-to-be named Scott Chestnutt who plays for Cape Central in Cape Girardeau. Based on the articles I read, his family moved to Cape from St. Louis and last year was Scott's first year playing varsity basketball. Anybody living in the area who can give us a scoop? http://www.semissourian.com/story.html$rec=96119 Sophomore center Scott Chestnutt scored a career-high 32 points to help Central overcome a 12-point deficit and defeat Doniphan 84-80 in a Sikeston Tournament consolation semifinal Thursday night. Chestnutt scored 10 of his game-high total in the fourth quarter, including a conventional three-point play with under two minutes left to put the Tigers ahead 78-77, a lead they never relinquished. http://www.semissourian.com/story.html$rec=99216 Scott Chestnutt, Central's outstanding 6-foot-8 sophomore who scored 32 points against New Madrid County Central Friday night, looks like he could turn into a big-time recruit. He's definitely a player to watch for in the future.
  24. No, Meyer is a slasher and can stop and pop.
