  1. This is the third season in a row where Temple has been down. Success comes in cycles -- it looks like Chaney's program is going the way of Georgetown
  2. The only way I can see us getting into the Dance without beating Cinci or Lousivlle is to win 2 out of 3 on this next swing, not just one. The ACC is primed to get SEVEN bids. We've got to have a very strong record in conference to make our case to the committee.
  3. http://www.wp.smsu.edu/univcomm/Grizzlies_...e_Cardinals.htm "Barr also praised the play of sophomore Travis Parker, who scored a season high 33 points. “We’ve been waiting for Travis to play the way he’s capable of playing, and he finally did,†the coach said. “As a seasoned sophomore, this is the type of performance we expect out of him every time. He had 33 points, nine rebounds and went to the free throw line 11 times. It was good to see that."
  4. "i havent seen polk yet, but i hope he is better than dentman. it will pain me to see justin end up the better player" As far as basketball ability, it's a wash IMO. However, Dentman isn't academically qualified yet.
  5. I know his team didn't fare well but I read that he lead his team in scoring in at least two games.
  6. I agree that the RPI will skyrocket given all the teams with above .600 records that our guys will be playing. I just question whether it will rise enough to get us a top 40 rpi if we don't beat Louisville or Cincinnati. Anything less than a 40 rpi puts us on the bubble, like Seton Hall and Texas Tech last season.
  7. Just about every at large team in tourney will have a win against a top 20 team. Check out the quality victories for last year's participants in the Big Dance if you don't believe me.
  8. Oh ye of little faith . . . I fully expect us to knock off Louisville or Cincinnati as we have every year for the past five years. I realize they are improved, but so are we.
  9. Frankly, if we can't beat Louisville or Cincinnati, we don't deserve to be in the Dance. You shouldn't be able to get an at large bid by piling up wins against mediocre teams.
  10. According to this article. Here's an excerpt: Article on Newborne "Vas'shun Newborne, a resourceful 6-6, 220 pound power forward from Chipola J.C. in Marianna, Fla., has been a steadying influence for the Indians this winter. Newborne played well for Chipola at the recent Florida JUCO Shootout. While he's not a breath-taking athlete, Newborne is a cerebral player who finds ways to be an opponent, be it with his defense, rebounding, passing or shooting. This season, Newborne averages 10.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists for a 17-2 Indian squad. Newborne has good touch inside of 10 feet, and he's willing to give up his body on the defensive side of the ball. According to Chipola Head Coach Chris Jans, St. Louis and Northern Iowa have offered Newborne. Others in the mix include Wisconsin-Green Bay, Montana State, Southeast Louisiana, Western Kentucky and Central Florida."
  11. I beg to differ. The kid shoots about 20% from three point range. If he was merely settling for jump shots, he would almost never score. Now I'll admit Jared settled for a lot of jumpshots in the last two games of the Meramec tournament but he wasn't hitting them either. In the games where Jared scores in double digits, he slashes.
  12. "I've only seen Cardinal Ritter once this year, but it seems like Barnett and Leonard have very similar games." I don't really see this comparison at all. They're both about the same size but they go about their business differently. Barnett is a shooter who doesn't play much defense and Leonard is a slasher who is developing into a defensive stopper.
  13. I know it's early but I see some Chris Carawell in Jared Leonard. With 20 lbs and an improved shot over the next two years, we could be looking at a reasonable facsimile.
  14. Lisch is more of a pure scorer and a physical specimen - he outweighs Diener by about 20 lb. Travis Diener is a classic point guard in the mold of Bobby Hurley. Lisch's physicality and scoring mentality reminds me more of former Illinois star Kiwane Garris.
  15. I totally fouled up that roster for 2005. Feeling under the weather today. It should read 1. Polk, so 2. Drejaj, sr 3. Clarke, jr 4. Meyer, so 5. Liddell, so 6. JJ, jr 7. Vouyoukas, jr 8. Spring signee, so 9. Husak, so Bryant (who I forgot about in my fouled up list), Frericks and Izik graduate in 2005. So we have four scholarships to give based on the 5/8 rule, assuming we give 4 scholarships to the current class. Again, the priorities are Lisch and an inside player and the last two scholarships will likely go to the best players available. The roster for 2004 is 1. Polk, fr 2. Drejaj, jr 3. Bryant, sr 4. Clarke, so 5. Meyer, fr 6. Liddell, fr 7. JJ, so 8. Izik, sr 9. Vouyoukas, so 10. Frericks, sr 11. Husak, fr 12. Spring signee, fr
  16. Jimmy's totally lost confidence in his j. In high school, he would regularly drop it in from a few feet beyond the arc and even when he missed it was close. Now he just flings the ball in the general direction of the hoop. He really needs to get away from that bad coaching environment and start over in the MVC. It's done wonders for Marcellus Sommerville.
  17. Lisch and an inside player are the top priorities for the 2004 class. Lawrence or Sargent or whoever the third scholarship player is really an afterthought since those kids won't be seeing the floor the first 2 years. We'll be very deep at their positions.
  18. We've only got three scholarships to give in that class based on the roster we'll have that year. 1. Polk 2. Drejaj 3. Clarke 4. Meyer 5. Liddell 6. JJ 7. Ohanon 8. Frericks 9. Vouyoukas 10. Spring signee Obviously our number 1 priority is Kevin Lisch and the 2nd priority is an inside player. The third scholarship will go to the best player available. Might be a point guard, might not. Whatever the case, that kid won't be getting any PT right away with all the players in front of him.
  19. Nice offensive player but Barnett has not shown he can guard the chair I'm sitting in on a consistent basis. Brad would throw a fit.
  20. Pretty Q told Vashon's best offensive player of the last 20 years not to shoot the ball? So much for Mizzou mending fences with Coach Irons.
  21. Lafayette's Matt Lawrence. He's been shooting the heck out of the ball from mid-range, three point land and the free throw line and also has shown that he can hit the boards a bit at 6'6. Averaging about 17 ppg. So the top three would be: 1. Kevin Lisch 2. Matt Lawrence 3. Arthur Sargent After a strong early start, Jenning's PF Matt Akins has really been a disappointment the last month. He's 6'8 but just isn't strong enough to finish around the basket or hold onto a rebound when guards hack at him. Coach is going to have to go outside of St. Louis to find a big man. I haven't been down to Cape Girardeau this season to see him play but 6'8 Scott Chestnutt has certainly been putting up some impressive numbers. http://www.semissourian.com/story.html$rec=128296
  22. Don't blame Quin's ineptitude on Coach K. Mike was able to bucket loads of games with average athletes like Ferry and Abdelnaby.
  23. For which remaining games is a bus provided? I'd look to do a road game this year.
  24. Reggie shouldn't have to guard 6'5 skywalkers, that should have been Izik's man. But Izik logged most of his minutes against Novak and backing up Sloan. Until we stop playing three guard lineups the Hasan Adams and Cartier Martins and Dameon Masons of the world are always going to be a problem.
