  1. Hey, since Paulding and Johnson are surefire first round picks and all, they can afford to go into debt.
  2. Nope, you didn't forget anybody. It was just David Lee and Jimmy McKinney.
  3. I think it's a safe bet that if he hasn't been offered yet, he ain't gonna get offered. The kid's a D-2 player.
  4. As far as I know, Tommie has the grades but not the test score. So he'll be a partial qualifier at worst. We won't have a scholarship open for an additional point guard.
  5. "I don't fault him at all for going after players like Kalen Grimes if the kid is showing interest" That's the problem. Grimes was just paying us lip service. Any regular attendee of Hawks games knew he wasn't coming here. Other than Brandon Morris not qualifying, this is the only recruiting boo boo the staff has made since they've been here, which is a good thing. If we continue to pick our recruiting battles smartly, we'll be fine.
  6. Agreed, not sure where Gordon's "three bids" smack is coming from. Maybe he needs to put down the crack pipe. Cinci and Louisville are locks. That leaves Marquette, UAB, Memphis, Charlotte and St. Louis to fight it out for two more bids.
  7. "Neither Polk or AD can give us what JF is this year, great, great defense combined with a decent outside shot, exceptional free throw shooting and very few turnovers." Polk can do some things that Josh can't do. His penetration and long range marksmanship could really help to open up our offense. "Likewise, I don't see a suitable replacement for CS. His intensity, rebounding, defense and steals along with hitting a critical shot just when we need it most are not part of the game of any current roster members" Rebounding and hitting a critical shot weren't part of Chris's game two years ago either. If Chris Sloan can improve that much, so can other players on the current roster.
  8. You have to determine what your borders are. I say our borders are within 30 miles of campus, with kids whose main goal is to graduate, not improve their lottery status. Certainly we'll also get kids outside of a 30 mile radius, but the St. Louis metro is where our recruiting base is strongest.
  9. "I totally agree - on a local kid you have to fight any school - I don't care who they are - tooth and nail for that recruit." Not if the there isn't much difference between the Plan A and the Plan B recruit. Allowing Grimes to string us along instead of offering Shaw in the spring was a waste of time.
  10. I meant to post under Ace's message.
  11. We aren't Duke. Plan B recruits don't wait around on SLU until October until all the Plan A have made their official visits. We need to pursue the Matt Shaws of the world off the bat.
  12. True, but you have to pick your battles. Once a Duke, a Florida or a Kentucky gets involved, it's time to step aside.
  13. Vianney has a nice 6'5 post player by the name of Stewart. But he's so well developed now I fear he won't grow much more.
  14. Check it out: Polk, Lisch, Liddell, Meyer, Arthur Sargent and Matt Lawrence in the junior class, Jarrod Leonard and Dustin Maguire in the sophomore class, Rob Rudy and Devon Dace in the freshman class. We could literally get all of our perimeter players within 30 miles of campus. It's finding quality post players over 6'7 that's really difficult. We will probably always have to go outside the region to find frontcourt help.
  15. This is the third season in a row where Temple has been down. Success comes in cycles -- it looks like Chaney's program is going the way of Georgetown
  16. The only way I can see us getting into the Dance without beating Cinci or Lousivlle is to win 2 out of 3 on this next swing, not just one. The ACC is primed to get SEVEN bids. We've got to have a very strong record in conference to make our case to the committee.
  17. http://www.wp.smsu.edu/univcomm/Grizzlies_...e_Cardinals.htm "Barr also praised the play of sophomore Travis Parker, who scored a season high 33 points. “We’ve been waiting for Travis to play the way he’s capable of playing, and he finally did,†the coach said. “As a seasoned sophomore, this is the type of performance we expect out of him every time. He had 33 points, nine rebounds and went to the free throw line 11 times. It was good to see that."
  18. "i havent seen polk yet, but i hope he is better than dentman. it will pain me to see justin end up the better player" As far as basketball ability, it's a wash IMO. However, Dentman isn't academically qualified yet.
  19. I know his team didn't fare well but I read that he lead his team in scoring in at least two games.
  20. I agree that the RPI will skyrocket given all the teams with above .600 records that our guys will be playing. I just question whether it will rise enough to get us a top 40 rpi if we don't beat Louisville or Cincinnati. Anything less than a 40 rpi puts us on the bubble, like Seton Hall and Texas Tech last season.
  21. Just about every at large team in tourney will have a win against a top 20 team. Check out the quality victories for last year's participants in the Big Dance if you don't believe me.
  22. Oh ye of little faith . . . I fully expect us to knock off Louisville or Cincinnati as we have every year for the past five years. I realize they are improved, but so are we.
  23. Frankly, if we can't beat Louisville or Cincinnati, we don't deserve to be in the Dance. You shouldn't be able to get an at large bid by piling up wins against mediocre teams.
  24. According to this article. Here's an excerpt: Article on Newborne "Vas'shun Newborne, a resourceful 6-6, 220 pound power forward from Chipola J.C. in Marianna, Fla., has been a steadying influence for the Indians this winter. Newborne played well for Chipola at the recent Florida JUCO Shootout. While he's not a breath-taking athlete, Newborne is a cerebral player who finds ways to be an opponent, be it with his defense, rebounding, passing or shooting. This season, Newborne averages 10.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.7 assists for a 17-2 Indian squad. Newborne has good touch inside of 10 feet, and he's willing to give up his body on the defensive side of the ball. According to Chipola Head Coach Chris Jans, St. Louis and Northern Iowa have offered Newborne. Others in the mix include Wisconsin-Green Bay, Montana State, Southeast Louisiana, Western Kentucky and Central Florida."
