  1. I really hope Tommie got a 17 on the February ACT exam because if he didn't, Brad is in a really tough situation. Je'kel Foster is averaging 16.5 ppg, 5 rpg, 5.5 apg and has hit 81 three pointers at a 40% clip playing against top notch juco competition. He also has a better than 3:1 assist to turnover ratio. If you take the dispassionate view, we can't turn down that type of production for a kid who may not even qualify, especially after being burned academically by Morris and Kern the previous two years. Foster, on the other hand is an honor roll student at Chipola. If Tommie doesn't qualify by the spring signing period and Foster wants to come, we've got to take the sure thing and hope Tommie comes back home after prep school. BTW, the Newborne kid scored 22 points in Chipola's first round victory at the FCCAA State tournament. Newborne is also an honor roll student.
  2. I saw where Kansas and Oklahoma were listed in Foster's profile but the interest is "low" and no offers have been tendered.
  3. Frankly, I would be shocked if Luke scored more than 15 pts in this game. The V will just double team on the perimeter and make him give up the ball. Unfortunately Moosman is the only other ballhandler Borgia has and he is too short to give Vashon any trouble.
  4. We're not offering the last scholarship to anybody but a power forward. We're offering the last scholarship to a power forward and possibly reserving a scholarship for Foster if another one opens up. If you email Telep, he probably doesn't even we have only scholarship available. He's just an Internet guru, he's not God.
  5. Shipley is quick with the ball (good handles), but he isn't physically quick. He's the type of undersized combo guard that is all-world in high school because of his strong offensive fundamentals but looks out of place against high major athletes (see Spencer Laurie). He's also streaky as hell (see Anthony Drejaj)and as you noted, very slight. Should be a nice pickup for a school like SEMO. Matt Lawrence is the man. He's really a 6'6 guard who plays a lot of post in high school because of his height and long reach. Mixes it up pretty good inside for a skinny dude, handles the ball as well as Meyer and his outside shot is just as good. Doesn't have Meyer's mid-range game yet. If he puts on 15 lb, you'd have a player very similar to Indiana/Iowa star Luke Recker.
  6. "This is a sad night. This will probably be the last game Louisville will play the Bills in St Louis." A little premature aren't you? Louisville is moving to the Big East, not the Far East.
  7. I'm coming down with the same thing so there won't be much yelling from me tonight.. I'll just pump my fist in the air in violent triumph.
  8. For us to get to 20 wins, don't we have to beat Depaul en route to the finals? It's either us or them.
  9. Somebody tell Mike Claiborne at KFNS. If he toned down the hockey talk and the shilling for Ed "TV" Levy, maybe he could increase the audience for the afternoon show by a few percentage points.
  10. All but one of Louisville's losses are in conference. They were 11-1 out of conference against a very good schedule.
  11. "the high flying freshman for althoff put on another fine show. why he isnt playing varsity with the talent he has is a mystery to me." Maybe Coach Lieb is of the Soderberg school of coaching - unless you're a transcendent defensive player we'll see you next year, son.
  12. "Highly overrated", if that was what was written, does not mean "not a factor". It means it's one of the factors, just as thicks stated.
  13. "Everyone hopes for the best from recruits. We've got people here comparing Liddell to Hughes, Polk to some of the top guards in the country and Meyer compared to the great shooters SLU has had (Waldman, Highmark, etc)." Most of the posters here have admitted they haven't seen these players play - they are hopeful but they don't state these hopes as fact as you tend to do. As for comparisons, Liddell isn't the athlete or shooter Hughes was in high school, Meyer is a slasher not a spot up shooter and Polk, well, he really is one of the top guards in the country :-)
  14. >MU has 3 big men coming in next year, including 7-0 Greg >Kinsella, who originally went to Rice but then left for a >JUCO because he knew he could "do better than Rice." He'll >contribute instantly for MU and be an upgrade over Merritt. How is a kid who redshirted at Rice going to be an upgrade over a CUSA senior averaging 12 ppg and 6 rpg? >Ousmane >Barro, 6-10 PF who rates #3 at the Big Man camp over such >players as Brian Butch (McDonald's AA last year) and others. What Big Man camp? Who else attended? > Also returning is Chris Grimm, who is finally getting time >at the 5 spot after injuries and illness in the early year, >is playing very well too, As demonstrated by his 0 point, 1 rebound performance in 15 minutes against UAB. Why do you feel the need to exaggerate the abilities of MU players and recruits, especially on a Billiken board?
  15. Unless he is one of the best defenders on the team or a starter gets injured, a freshman isn't going to see much playing time. That much is clear. I don't agree with it but that is Brad's way.
  16. Depaul is the only team who can make a claim to a sixth CUSA bid and that's only if they keep winning. If they bow out before the tournament semi-finals, CUSA is only getting five in.
  17. I was flipping through some old Hughes articles in the Post Dispatch archives when I ran across this gem. I didn't know that Watson and Young were SLU leans at one time! ------------------------------ May 20, 1996 EAGLES LOSE IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME Author: By Kevin E. Boone Of The Post-Dispatch Staff "Complementing the impressive duo of Rush and Young was CMH guard Earl Watson. He put on a passing clinic, and finished with 14 points to go with a bundle of assists. The 6-foot Watson said he was leaning toward St. Louis University, although he's also being recruited by several other NCAA Division I schools, including Iowa, Nebraska and Stanford. Last season, Watson averaged 23 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 4.3 assists for Washington High of Kansas City, Kan. He created a host of opportunities for Rush and Young with steals and pinpoint passes. By late in third quarter, CMH had opened a 56-38 lead. Young added: SLU is "my top choice right now. If Larry Hughes goes there, it's 100 percent I'll be going there." Hughes, a 6-5 guard who will play in the Nike High School All-American Camp in July, also is being recruited by the Billikens."
  18. "Maybe time will prove me wrong but as I said above" Hey, we've got nothing but time :-)
  19. The one good thing about moving to the A-10 is we won't have to face them on a regular basis after next year. They made Marquette look like a high school team.
  20. We played three really bad teams. Eastern Kentucky is 11-13 and has an RPI of 226, which is perfectly acceptable for a buy game. They play number 96 Austin Peay today so their RPI ranking will improve even more, win or lose. Again, replacing two of the 300 rpi patsies with 200 rpi wins would bolster our RPI ranking a few slots, but it wouldn't put us in the top 40. We still would have needed 1) two more quality wins out of the UAB/Memphis/Cinci group or 2) one win out of that group and a season sweep against Charlotte.
  21. We've shown that we can beat good RPI teams at home, we just can't beat them on the road. If we had two more quality wins on the road, our RPI would be top 40 now. Missouri enjoyed the luxury of playing their highest ranked RPI opponent at home. Our games against UAB, Cinci and Memphis were on the road so the challenge for our Billikens was to take two out of three from that group. We didn't get it done.

  23. Our strength of schedule is now 59, which is better than Memphis, Cincinnati or Illinois. However, those teams at least three quality road wins and we do not. Wins over Arkansas-Little Rock and Tennesse Tech instead of NC St. and Grambling would improve our RPI (currently 69) a few spots but we still wouldn't be in the top 40.
  24. Telep might want to update his database. Lisch hasn't been 6'0 in about 18 months.
