  1. We're being a little too sensative here. Empire-lindy hasn't exactly behaved like Vanilla Gorilla. His/her posts have been pretty respectful. Again, good luck!
  2. We're going to have to earn their (the casual sports fans) respect back. Bernie could certainly help with that but his ego is bruised..sniff...sniff. This year is brutal and could've been great without hockey around. It is a missed opportunity but hardly grounds for chucking out the baby with the bathwater (even if it does smell like bernie's after a three bucket trip to the kfc.) The long and the short of it is, the team and Brad didn't implode , with whining and mass transfers and job actions among the players. Brad and the boys held together under pressure and for that at least, credit goes to Brad.
  3. The Post has been losing circulation as long as the city itself has been losing population. They'll not get my 50 cents due to their left leaning news coverage. The sports page is as big an embarressment but not as important to me. If the post is a great metropolitan newspaper, the Billikens are a great basketball team (based on greatness last century.)
  4. You wouldn't come to me for a used auto. You wouldn't go to Skip for a home loan. You wouldn't go to Roy for your lawn care needs. WHY, IN THE NAME OF ALL THAT'S HOLY, WOULD YOU GO TO BERNIE FOR INFO ON COLLEGE ATHLETICS? I know more than he does and I don't know anything about basketball other than the Billikens. This board is a better source than Bernie has. He may not know about our problems getting juco in. He probably couldn't pick Frericks and Reggie out of a lineup of Fransiscan nuns. He is clueless. I'll be happy to scooch over a little bit so he can get his fat posterior on the bandwagon in a year or two. In the meantime I'd ask him to shut the heck up about things he doesn't know about. Good advise for all of us......wait this is an internet message board......
  5. Gee I hope she's fired! Does she have some incriminating evidence against someone??????? My god, I can't believe we can't have her burned at the stake for consorting with the beast. Sorry just helping set the mood for a new Jill bashing thread.
  6. I think most Billiken fans agree with you. The uninformed, contrarians, and haters (in general) are the only ones sharpening up their knives. It's really easy to nitpick calls and coaching moves when your margin for error is razor thin. It's also easy to blame the coach for players who get injured or in funks or are just plain goofy. Brad's early classes were hip shots. I don't blame him for taking chances on JJ, and Darren, and IO, and AD. Now if Tommie and Kevin, and IV, and Dwayne flame out, Brad will be toast and I'll fire up the oven. I'm guessing (along with most real Billiken FANS) that by the end of Polk's junior year we'll all be reveling in Brad's superior intellect and hoping that He'll stay a few more years.........
  7. He's started to be as near automatic as a Billiken can be this year with his short-mid range jump shot. If he can hit 10-15 foot shot there's no need for him to travel while trying to do a funky move to get a layup.
  8. I could be wrong but isn't a season ticket holder a booster regardless of whether or not they belong to the Billiken Club (or equivalent?)
  9. I'm not suggesting it'd be a good thing that Anthony become our starting point guard next year. I'm just saying that its probable that someone we expect to be great will not make it, or be injured, or not get the coaches system, or get home sick, or at the very least piss off Brad by being a bonehead freshman. When those things happen Drejaj is the answer and not a terrible one. When Drejaj is on a roll he is one of our better outside shooters or at the very least someone with the confidence to take the shot. That will hopefully change next year but Drejaj will still be needed.
  10. I really did a double take on the scoreboard when I saw Ian with 17 points. Outstanding.
  11. after losing Tom and with Reggie ailing, how can you start counting on Kevin and Tommie to start nextyear? Assuming Kevin's knee heals and his back holds together and Tommie qualifies and both are as good as we hope AND Dwayne and Luke have no sophmore slump and get better too.....yeah given that Clarke and Drejaj will be odd men out. I'd still be willing to bet that Drejaj gets worthwhile minutes till he graduates. Don't count on anything and who knows Newborn and JJ might step up....Stranger things have happened......
  12. You'll have to get the stats for me on that one.
  13. What was his mother doing in Notre Dame, Indiana???? Inquiring minds want to know.......
  14. Not that I disagree with you, but home court advantage would seem to be a tough thing to accurately measure. The experience and attitudes of the fans are probably the more important anyway. Feeling good about and spending money on Billiken basketball is what we are all looking for.
  15. I agree. Our season ticket base not too long ago was around 12000 if I remember correctly. I for one do not want to be the last man in on a 5000 seat arena, hitting my head against the ceiling trying to see around the freaking shot clock. If we can't do this right thwen delay it till we can (which would seem to be the course we are on.) Would the 5000 seat arena need a practise floor????????
  16. leaping, dunking, shot blocking, rebounding over the top of everyone, then Chris Sloan was not VERY athletic. He did have a good body and make the most of it though.....
  17. I'd just chime in to say you can take this too far and be damned offensive. I'd prefer to leave color out of it whether we are talking about a power forward or point guard or who was arrested last night. It makes no difference. Travis Deiner, Dwayne Polk, Chris Sloan, Curtis Withers. Race doesn't matter. Character, talent, and making the most of both, do. (stepping off the soap-box)
  18. I think our fight song has become "when the saints go marching in" Few really sing it or are particularly moved by it though. When the Bills win the fans will come and cheer.
  19. I still dont't get the need for a practise floor in the new building. If we aren't practising on the game floor, who the hell cares wheather you are at west pine or in my back yard. The rims and backgrounds will be different. God knows the boys wouldn't be hurt by sprinting between West Pine and the "Mueller Pavillion."
  20. It just cracks me up how the optimists have become the pessimists here. Granted I have no contact with anyone at SLU but this negative rumor mill you're talking about with a scaled back arena that's never going to happen anyway is killing me! I'm not worried about the arena. Other than the negativity on the board here, everything points to the arena being delayed not diminished.....
  21. Hard to tell with The Torch. (and to Willie) Yes that would be a bad, classless, pointless, even gutless, thing to do.
