Recruit

Recruit (1/7)

  1. >If he is more than a role player which isnt bad why isnt >Illinois, or Purdue or any of the other Indiana schools all >over the kid? They are
  2. >How about David Lee, Maurice Baker, Darren Brooks, Chris >Carawell, Loren Woods, Robert Archibald, possibly Corey >Simms, Jimmy McKinney. Thats exactly my point. How many of those guys are program changing guys? Woods would be the only one. Archibald was a 7th or 8th man for a decent Illini team. It'd be one thing to recruit St Louis players with the hope of a great one coming down the pipeline, but there hasn't been a great one since 1996? If you want to count Hansborough, the jury hasnt convened on him. This would be especially important if the NBA enacts an age limit which, depending on the wording, would prevent anyone under 20 to play in the league. Instead of one of these guys pulling a Hughes, they would have to play 2 years.
  3. >4 of the 15 guys listed on the All-Metro first, second, and >third teams were underclassmen. The underclassmen were 6'7 >Leon Powell, 6'5 Dustin Maguire 6'4 Sanijay Watts, and 5'10 >Alex Moosman. Will all four of them make first team >All-Metro next season. If so, why? Who will be the fifth >person? How about instead of recruiting St Louis players, recruiting good players? Sound good? Ok. For the size of St Louis, there are not very many great/good players coming out of the city itself. It seems the same in the county as well. What about KC? Any prospects there? How about working Chicago a bit? When people complain about lack of St Louis recruits, I have to laugh. Besides Larry Hughes, who would you want that would have made a huge difference?
  4. >What are some really good conferences in Ill.? Well theres basically 3 decent sectors of basketball in Illinois. Youve got the Chicago Public League. You have the Midstate 6 (Peoria). Then you have the Western Big 6 which includes the Quad Cities, Galesburg, Quincy, etc. Outside of those youll have hit or miss decent teams. None that ever make a difference come Elite 8 time. Unless my memory is failing me, there hasn't been a champ outside of Chicago or Peoria since the late 80s east St Louis teams.
  5. >It would be nice if Coca Cola did the naming rights and that >put SLU's campaign over the top so ground could be broken on >the new arena. What if they wanted to name it Coke Center or Coke Arena? Would we need a Bob Huggins type to coach the team. I would like the ring of Powerade Pavilion though. Something unique, say, The Fanta Forum?
  6. Coke gave away the tickets for the NIT game a year ago too. Wouldn't be too far out of the realm of reason for them to donate a large chunk to the arena.
  7. > He may be the best >defensive guard in the NBA. Laughable. Bruce Bowen is about ten times the defender the great One Year Bill is. I mean Larry put up a great defensive effort on a must win game, giving up 42 points, not to mention shooting a very mediocre 4-17. Wade probably averaged...just a rough estimate...30 ppg this series. Dont give me the "oh the refs are unfair" excuse. Thats just a cop out. Refs even up the calls over the course of the game. They aren't part time lawyers or butchers like the NFL. These guys are the best of the best. If it wasn't 11 pm I'd name about 25 guards in the NBA id take than Big LH. > That is the reason I don't watch the NBA >... 2 sets of rules, one for stars ... one for everyone >else. Wade is a media darling on Shaq's team. The favoritism >he gets from ref's is just going to get worse. If Hughes was that good, shouldnt he get the calls too? This comes not only from the fact that he isn't that great, but he plays on an unlikable team. Arenas is a punk/moron ballhog, shoot-first, me-first type player that will never win. Jamison has no idea what position he plays. Kwame Brown is just nuts overall. Brendan Haywood has the IQ of a gorilla. If Larry wants to win, he'd go to a team that could use a taller scoring guard. Somewhere he wouldn't have to make any big decisions.
  8. Well, I guess that means a goodbye to any kind of decent campus life. But hey maybe we can all just go climb on the new lights. And then maybe go to all the cool bars on campus, oh wait, theyre all gay bars. So the basic thing of it is... -More overpriced apartments -Nowhere to go on campus -Increase of drunk driving -Big supporter of the bball program gone Sad day and no one seems to notice the impact of any of it. Great.
  9. >whether it is obi or not, i dont know, but for the record, >coach soderberg and his entire staff are giving the 115% >effort today for a very big young man and his family per my >on campus sources. Saw the whole group leaving Boccardi's. Obi is a big fella. It looked like it might have been an aunt or maybe his grandma? I am about 6-4 and he had a legitimate 4 inches on me. He has the body of a Bonner and not an Izik.
  10. At a point when many experts and armchair experts thought he'd be declaring for the NBA draft, Iti is leaving Charlotte. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2052716
  11. >I'm sure you remember ten years ago (1994-1995), the Bills >went 23-8 and averaged 17,714 for 16 home games. Those home >games included: Bradley(17,775, DePaul(20,930). I'd love to see the old rivalry with Bradley rekindled. There will always be some good stories with those games, added with some of the stories of past games. Keeping DePaul on the schedule would be great for the RPI and to have an actual rival. The less Tennessee-Martins and Oaklands and Savannah States the better, regardless of "buys" or not. They do nothing for a sub-150 program. Period. We saw what happened with SEMO this year.
  12. > would have looked real nice in billiken blue. > on to the next one. So now onto the next one? Is there anyone left of any quality? Why bother at this point? Cut the losses for this year and try try again next year.
  13. You'd think theyd realize there isnt a huge need for more overpriced housing on campus. We've already got Coronado, Lindell, any on campus housing, and now the Moolah. We only have 3 bars now, and Lacledes sucks. I would think that Humphreys being right next to the development would be more of a positive than a negative, but maybe thats just me.
  14. >our board has become a "valley talk" alternative as two >valley schools play "mine is bigger" and we couldnt care >less here. imo, until this rembrandt guy expresses any >interest we arent too concerned about bradley or siu bench >players. Yeah youre right, we should probably pick up on the Mizzou-is-the-worst-program-in-the-history-of-man-kind chatter, because that certainly has something to do with SLU. The thing I left out is that Rembert would start for SLU. heh. I don't like to admit it, but some people certainly love drinking the blue-aid.
  15. >You don't want Rembert. He is not good at all. His final >two choices were SIU and Bradley. Coming out of high >school, Bradley's head coach gave the analogy/comparison of >Bradley being a Ferrari, while SIU was a Yugo. Turns out he >made the right choice...a mediocre program for a mediocre at >best player. A mediocre program that has the richest tradition of just about any program in the state of Illinois. Rembert isn't the solution to anyones problems if he couldn't work his way off the Bradley bench this past year. He showed some decent work off the bench, but thats about all you can count on him for. SIU reaches a sweet 16 and thinks theyre the top dogs around. Hehe.
