Dav over The Bills by 15

And the drum beat continues....the good news is we are still F+...the bad news is we are still F+

Dav is a B+ team...with a chance  to make the NIT. They are an interesting case study. Basically a 2 man squad....Gibbs and Aldridge both 20+ ppg. They are the key to this game as well as the Dav season.  If we stop them we can win the game.  It won't be easy...Gibbs ...42/41/83...Aldridge...52/ 41/ 85...impressive numbers..  Team strength ...FTs...12th in the nation...again riding on the shoulders of their top 2 guys.  Team weakness ...3 pt defense.  This doesn't mean they don't play D. They just do it inside the arc. In the last game the Bills showed that they could hit from 3 when left alone. (39%). They need to do that again.

An aside here....I have seen a few posts on the board lamenting the lack of bench next year..we "only" have 6 good guys coming in. .  Dav is showing that with 2 good guys you can get to B+. If our 6 guys are as good as their 2 , we will be rolling.

Bottomline...Stop Gibbs and Aldridge...hold them to 15 pts...keep FG% and 3pt % below 40. We need to hold to 12 TOs ..12 is not only a good team target to shoot for but it is also what Dav is projected to TO...no extra free pts....We need to make some 3's...if we finish below 30% or at 15 TOs...little chance to win. Finally don't foul those 2 guys. In their last game (a loss to GW) they only had 8 FTA. as a team.....of course  all 8 were by their 2 guys  and as expected they made 7...but the key was their was only 8 FTA

It was about a year ago that a  that a weak Bills team (D+)  beat a good Dav team ( B )...Let's do it again

Did he say anything else? Anything on the new transfer?

Yes, Graves will be practicing with the team.  Coach said he is an explosive scorer and played in a hard AAU league. Said he had two good games with BC, one against Nichols State where he scored 15.  Said he is one of the top shooters in the nation.  He said he sold Graves on SLU with "the system I use" saying it is how Graves wanted to play. [He did not mention the Billikens.com board as being influential.]  He compared him to Phil Forte and Keiton Page.

Said Davidson will be very hungry, coming in 0-2.  They are much better than their record, per Coach.  They have POY candidate Gibbs plus a very good 6'8" kid, Aldridge.

Well there was good and bad in this game....

First the good ...

We beat the spread....

We outplayed them the 2nd half...in fact had we played that way the whole game we would have won

Only 3 TO's the 2nd half

Better slashline than Davidson.......Bills....46/ 56/ 75...Dav....47/ 37/ 70

Now the bad ...

7 min...the final 7 min of the 1st half....complete collapse....this cost us the game....26 pts during that time....that converts to a rate of 149 pts/gm...terrible.

TO's ...13 not too bad overall but the 10 in the first half were too many....a hole we couldn't  get out of.

TO's spread...this was another killer.... we had 13 they had 6...spread of 7... which cost us 14 pts...and the game...again

We didn't stop Aldridge...24 pts...67/75/100

Bottomline....We played good enough to win with a great slashline and a scrappy effort for 33 min.  The problem is the game is 40 min. Also we can't have huge TO spreads. Our TO numbers recently haven't been bad but the opponents have been turning over way below their average. We need to pressure a little more.

40 min= win...

33 min = loss

I was watching the clock.  We went exclusive zone from about the 5:30 mark on into halftime.  Pretty much Man to Man the first half except for those minutes, and the entire second half, with one or two quick switches to zone for a defensive stand.  Playing Man, we put a lot more pressure on the three point shooters.
