SLUMS81
Request to Coach Soderberg: Use a full court press more often! If we can't give opponents "40 minutes of hell" ala Nolan Richardson's Razorbacks, could we at least try 10 or 20? Some of the players at the autograph session after the game told me that they enjoyed pressuring Houston late in the game.
3star_recruit
Brad is learning as he goes just as the players are. I think he's finding out that his blind adherence to the Dick Bennett model isn't always the best approach. You've got to put your team in the best position to win, even if that means doing stuff you're not 100% comfortable with.
billiken_roy
against the second worst team ranked barely in the top 200, the billikens can get away with that. however, vs cincy, uab, louisville, memphis, depaul, charlotte, marquette....we dont have the depth to play full court defense and mad man man-to-man on the other end as well. an occasional look might be good, but any more than that would probably be disasterous. soderberg did what had to be done to have a chance last night. three less bad passes or a couple more made free throws and it still wouldnt have been enough to win last night. i give coach credit for the needed adjustment, but i just dont see where we have the personnel to do that game after game yet. thetorch
This is not a team that could handle playing full court pressure unless it is the most doire of circumstances as we were last night. C'mon we started a walk on last night. Maybe with more and better players this could be a regualr thing. That said I like the full court press as a diversion not as an posession type thing. Full court press is best when the defense is playing with great intesity and the opposing team is not expecting it. Playing it every trip down the floor your players lose their edge quickly and it just tires the players out more than causing any disruptions.
