Looks like we could know about Alexander this week

It's an Illinois article but it had this in it.

Six-foot-7, 225-pound Rodney Alexander, the leading scorer on the nation’s No. 2 junior-college team, told Sturdy he plans to choose between Illinois, Tennessee and Saint Louis on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Alexander averaged 13.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for Redlands (Okla.) Community College, which finished 30-2 and ranked No. 2 in the final NJCAA regular-season poll.

The Benton Harbor, Mich., native shot 59 percent from the field, 76 percent from the line and 35 percent from 3-point range.

“He’ll remind a lot of people of Roger Powell,†Sturdy said. “He’s obviously not as physically imposing as Roger was at the end of his career, but he can score inside and out. He can take guys off the dribble.â€

A back court of Lisch, Liddell, and Alexander would be hard to stop.

or if we were playing 4 guards TL, KL, MR, RA, with Adam and Bryce in the middle. There would be some teams having trouble matching up with that. I would think we could really get up and down the floor. and cause some havoc with the press and traps on D. Brad will have to become more flexible.

I know its hard to imagine us taking players away from Illinois of Tenn. BUT if immediate PT is Alexander's main goal, it would appear SLU is the place. Unless we sign someone else, ALexander could start at center for us and/or forward with Luke moving to the backcourt. Soderberg's comments in the Post yesterday indicate he's ready to go with a smaller, more athletic lineup, which makes sense if you look at what George Mason, SIUC, and Butler have done the last 2 years in the NCAA tourney with no starter taller than 6'7".

Illinois has their staring Center, Pruitt, returning as well as PF Randle, and backup C/F Richard Semrau returning from an injury. They already have fall signings from Bill Cole a 6'9" PF and 6'11" C Mike Tisdale, both highly touted recruits. Tennessee has all 5 starters returning and highly-regarded frosh PF Brian Williams signed.

If Alexander wants to go BCS its obviously Illinois or Tenn. If he wants to play big minutes at a decent mid-major SLU has got to be his choice.
