Coaching at SLU

If it makes you feel any better, Romar's Washington team has VASTLY underperformed this year. Much like the Bills, they have regressed as the year has gone on. Living in Seattle, I've been able to see it first hand. I was at the Arizona vs UDubb game, and it looks like they had plenty of firepower, but didn't play very good defense. They also just got blown out by 30 pts to rival Wazzou.

oppland insisted on a package deal with his twin brother. valpo was the only school to pony that up. purdue also dropped out of the bidding when the brothers or nothing came about.

Fist off, Romar never had Midwest ties to recruiting. He was able to land west coast talent cause he was from the west coast. No one in the area knew who he was. Why do you think he went back to the west coast? He was familiar with the area. It would have taken him several more years to build up his name in the Midwest.a

Secondly, Don't compare David Lee, Darius Miles, and Jimmy McKinney to Lisch and Liddell. How do you ever expect SLU to land a player with their talent. McKinney was highly touted coming out of high school. Obviously, his college career was less than impressive because of Snyder. I don't care if "John Wooden" was here, SLU would never be able to land Miles or Lee. and yes, Lisch was a lock to go here.

Soderberg has successfully made IV worse, gotten his team to not play defense, and he has admitted he has lost the team and can't get through to his players. Yet, some people on this board still want him around. Do you all know anything about basketball? Don't you see other college programs and how they have succeeded with a good coach? get a clue.....

You're right that the west coast connections hindered Romar.

However, everyone on here is always bitching about not getting the big namers. Miles, Lee, and McKinney included. Tommie Liddell coming out of high school was on the same level as McKinney, and Romar did not get him. Miles and Lee were on a different level, but probably the same level as Hansborough and Suggs, whom people complain about Soderberg not having gotten and not likely to get.

No - Lisch was not a lock to go here. In fact, he was attending practices at UofI shortly before committing here. give credit where credit is due, otherwise, provide support for your arguments.

Soderberg has made IV worse. Did you see IV four years ago?

In case you missed it,

For full disclosure purposes, UDub's best player didn't play in that lopsided loss. He has had GREAT success on the court in Washington....has great classes coming in nexttwo years...and this year's team has zero seniors, one junior, he combines good recruiting, with success on the court, and program direction, games are a hot ticket, etc...

In four seasons, after inheriting nothing. He has gone to NCAA 3 times and twice to Sweet 16. His success at UW even the extremists cannot question. He must have coached them well to go so far...as you say can't just recruit them.

But you need better players and athletes to win.
