  1. Hey Banks, you missed giving me a Troll Reaction on several posts today. Just helping you out. I checked your Profile, and since you joined the board on July 9, you have made 3 posts and given me 39 Troll Reactions. Does anyone else have a pet troll? And why the change from Tilowisky to Banks? 2. Dat true. Witness Michigan’s two significant scoring droughts v Villanova in the title game.
  3. Did some more reading on the changes and now, at the earliest, the NBA is looking at the 2022 draft where HS athletes would be eligible. A lot is being made of limiting the draft prospects eligible to return to school to those who participate in the NBA combine and go unselected, meaning that this new rule will seldom be utilized. Only six players fit that criteria this past June: Rawle Alkins, Brian Bowen, Trevon Duval, Brandon McCoy, Malik Newman and Allonzo Trier. Right now, these players are considered free agents after they go undrafted. Duval (Bucks), Alkins (Bulls) and Trier (Knicks) have signed two-way contracts, while McCoy signed a training camp contract with the Bucks. Newman recently signed with the Miami Heat. Bowen is playing pro ball in Australia @Pistol, you are right. USAB doesn't want to be involved with selecting the elite athletes who can hire an agent. They said yes, they met with the NCAA commission, but never agreed to do this. And who is going to select the High School aged foreign athletes that are "elite". And why limit the agents to only 'elite'. Let any and everyone go get an agent. The market place would soon determine who is elite and who isn't. Think an agent would spend time and money on a HS benchwarmer? And these elite athletes can then hire agents. BUT, read the fine print, and the agents can pay for visits - to the agent's office, but they cannot front the athlete money. So is this really a big deal? The agent can advise, but he can't pay the athlete. (Here, son. This envelope 'should cover your expenses' for visiting my Honolulu office. If you want to recruit one of these 'elite athletes with agents' guess who you will be talking to. The player? The coach? The agent? Yep. Another confusing issue is that athletes can now have 15 paid recruiting visits. 15. Who needs 15 visits to figure out where they are going to college? This to me opens up "Party Time" for quite a few visits. Think Louisville's 'recruiting assistants' might be busy in the future. And how many college coaches want to host an athlete that is simply on the grand tour. These visits take up time, and resources. The entire report still does not address the white elephant in the room, the reason so many are in trouble - paying athletes. Until this is addressed, all of these changes are window dressing.
  4. Banks, you need to raise your game. You are trying to react to all of my posts with your Troll Reaction. You have missed some. You might want to enlist some help if you want to continue playing this game. 1. 5. Going back to the Spoon days, the Coach's Show didn't start until January.
  6. There is an interesting caveat on the re-entry into school for those who don't get drafted. I believe this is all about allowing HS athletes to be drafted. Until the NBA changes that rule, this one isn't effective. They also have to have request an evaluation. 181 players declared for the 2018 draft. 100 rescinded. NBA draft flexibility College basketball players who request an Undergraduate Advisory Committee evaluation, participate in the NBA combine and aren’t drafted can return to school as long as they notify their athletics director of their intent by 5 p.m. the Monday after the draft. This change is effective if/when the NBA and NBPA make an expected rule change, which would make undrafted student-athletes who return to college after the draft ineligible for the NBA until the end of the next college basketball season.
  7. More chances to visit colleges during and after high school Basketball student-athletes can make more frequent campus visits paid for by colleges (referred to as official visits), which can begin as soon as Aug. 1 the summer before their junior year in high school. They can take: Five visits between Aug. 1 and the end of their junior year of high school. Five visits between the end of their junior year and Oct. 15 after high school graduation. Five visits between Oct. 15 after high school graduation and the remainder of their college eligibility. A student-athlete can visit a school only once per year. Unofficial visits — those made at his or her own expense — cannot begin before Aug. 1 of the student’s sophomore year of high school. Schools now can pay for 28 official visits for recruits (34 for national service academies) over a rolling, two-year period. These rules are effective Aug. 15, 2018.
  8. Degree completion assistance Division I schools will be required to pay for tuition, fees and books for basketball players who leave school and return later to the same school to earn their degree. Former student-athletes will be eligible for financial assistance to complete their first degree if they were on scholarship and fewer than 10 years have passed since they left school. Additionally, students must have been in school for two years before leaving. Former student-athletes also must meet all the school’s admissions and financial aid requirements and must have exhausted all other funding options to be eligible, as well as meet all NCAA academic requirements. This is quite interesting. If this is the actual wording (taken from JJM28's link) it says nothing about dropping out to play pro ball. So a player can drop out, get a regular job, and come back to finish his/her degree, at the cost of the university. This student COULD NOT count against the 13 scholarship total, correct. I assume if he or she has eligibility left, they could play ball? This likely is intended to be for those who go pro, but this wording doesn't limit it to that.
  9. I agree with you. It will be interesting to see how the coaches and staffs dance around reporting income from outside sources. Allowing non-drafted college athletes back into their school will give coaches heartburn. Why wouldn't Goodwin and Gordon declare for the 2019 draft and stay in until the party is over? Ford won't know if they are coming back or not until late June 2019. So what do you do with those two scholarships?
  10. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2018/08/08/ncaa-announces-new-rule-changes-favoring-college-basketball-players/935917002/ Quick summary of NCAA changes made today. Every college basketball player will declare for the draft -- why not, there is no down side. "Elite" athletes will be able to have an agent in HS. (Likely the NCAA will look at recruiting stars, AAU stats and evaluations from TGloryTDays to determine who is elite. Add 4-day recruiting periods in April Coaches will be allowed to attend NBPA Top 100 Camp in June. Coaches allowed to attend events during last two weekends of June if approved by National High School Federations.
  11. Bernie kind of did this with the Blues last season. I didn’t pay much attention but he had a producer give some insight after each game...someone who actually watched the game, unlike Bernie. So this seems to be an extension of that model.
  12. This is as low as I’ve seen George Mason on any list.
  13. It’s good that you don’t use stats. Leave math to the adults.
  14. To heck with #22. We need to go after #5 in blue. Now that is a true Billiiken.
  15. Some interesting stats from that game. Duncan, Childress and Banks all went 40. Wake played 7. We went 8 deep (barely) with the starters all 30 min or more. (Who says college kids can't play heavy minutes?) 19 fouls on SLU v 6 fouls on Wake. Yikes. With the off day shooting for Claggett and H, it's amazing that it was a 5 point game. Harris, as usual, was a monster on the boards. (This is a classic picture.)
  16. On the other end of the spectrum, the 1994-1995 NCAA team had a total of 33 blocks, lead by David Robinson's season total of 8. (I doubt if any of those were against Tim Duncan.) That team also shot 38.9% from the arc, lead by H at 42.7% and Claggett at 41.9%
  17. With you all the way on 3 point shooting. We were something like 314th last year for shooting from afar. We lost our best three point shooter (Johnson hit 43% in conference play) and our second best shooter in Roby. One way to look at the new team is comparing overall shooting versus conference play shooting. Bess was 27% overall and 26% in conference play. He has had two years under Izzo and two under Ford to improve his shot, so I'm not looking for much improvement. Bess won't be taking as many three pointers as last year, so maybe 30% is doable. Goodwin was 23.5% overall but a huge jump to 34.4% in conference. He certainly can be written in for 35%. Isabell was 34% and 36.7% in conference. So a slight improvement there. 35%, yeah. Wiley was 36.7% and 36.7%. That's consistent. Mark him down for 36.7% this season. And no one wants to count Welmer. He finished his one season at 37.1%. If he can replicate that, it is icing on the cake. Freshmen - who knows. In HS ball, passive zone defenses and/or 5'6" man to man perimeter defenders leave shooters wide open. In AAU ball, defense is all but taboo. Hopefully one of the four will rise to the occasion and be a long range sniper off the bench. A team average of 35% would have been in the neighborhood of 175th last season in the NCAA. I'd take that.
  18. I will be watching the innovative CUSA schedule this upcoming season, and see how it might (have) translated to A10. CUSA is playing each school once, with two for a travel partner for the first 14 games. Then they take the top 5 teams and have them play each other for 4 more games. 6-10 and 11-14 do the same. So in essence, if we had the same format, we could play Dayton (assumed our travel partner) twice, and then GMU, Davidson, St. Joe and another, dumping repeat games in particular with LaSalle and Duquesne. Yeah, we might play Dayton three times if they were in the top 5 (and maybe again in the A10 tourney), but that wouldn't be the worse thing to happen. This revamp of the scheduling system could give teams a nice boast in the rankings. An issue I see is if teams tie for 5/6 and 10/11. You are kind of screwed if you loose the tiebreaker. If you are 11-14, you have to play a fellow tier team twice, but so what if you are in the bottom third. Let Fordham and LaSalle play each other 18 times.
  19. Jacobs is a two star per Verbal Commits. Certain MBM's - not mentioning names - aren't excited about him as his recruiting rank is too low. Me, I'm all in on Mr. Jacobs. I don’t care how many stars he has.
  20. Scoring more points than your opponent is more important than recruiting rankings.
  21. Okay, if recruiting stars are so important, the team with the most stars should win, right? Why play the game? Just meet at center court, count stars and call it a day.
  22. A man has been out fishing by the lake all day and hasn’t caught anything. He decides to just give up and call it a day, but on his way he notices an old man fishing but a few feet away from him. The man immediately notices the other fisherman has several buckets full of fish, then witnesses him reeling in yet another one. “Excuse me, sir”, the man says, “I’ve never been able to catch much of anything around here. I’ve got to ask, what’s your secret?” The old man pauses for a moment, then mumbles “hmmm mmmph mmm mmph mmm hmm mmmph”. “I’m sorry, could you say that again?” The man repeats, a little louder this time, “hmmm mmmph mmm mmph mmm hmm mmmph!” “I-I still didn’t quite get that, sorry” Finally, the old man picks up a plastic cup, spits a mouthful of live worms into it, and yells “Ya gotta keep your worms warm!”.
  23. Excellent post. All that counts is Wins and Losses. I'll add that I don't care what our Class Recruiting ranking is, I don't care how many *** our players have, and I don't care about AAU Stats. And today I really don't care about 2019-2020 recruiting. If we don't ring the dinner bell this season, well, there will be questions asked. Who would be happy with a 20 -13 season and an NIT invite? Just win baby.
  24. Final tourney line for Ingvi: 7 games played, 26.0 min per game, 12.0 ppg, 84 total points, 32.3 FG%, 26.8 3FG%, and 92.9 FT%. Now, when will the Iceman Cometh to Saint Louis? (Note to Banks: I see you are putting a Troll reaction on all my posts. I think you missed a few earlier in this thread. You might want to go back and get them. You are welcome.)
  25. Figured it wasn't needed for something so obvious. Just pulling the young un's string.
