  1. This is what Coach said in the interview with Rothstein, four hours per week on the floor.
  2. Fun wasn’t it. Mentioned Hank Raymonds playing at SLU and then the Marquette Connection with him and Rick Did you hear McCarver saying Cubs pitchers are like “having zits at the prom?” “You are glad you are there but you want to look good. “. Yikes.
  3. Porter took about half of his shots last season from the arc and hit 36%. In this theoretical game, I'm not sure who Ford would put on him. I don't think he would want French that far from the rim. Fun to talk about though.
  4. Anthony Jones: 1987-1990 (3 seasons) Averaged 2.2 ppg over his 85 game career. 56 of 143 from the field, (39%), and 1 of 4 from the arc.
  5. Interesting yet predictable response from Dave Matter on SLU v Mizzou in his chat. It's July and things are slow, so just for fun ... if Cuonzo's Tigers played the revitalized SLU roster this coming season, who would you take and why? by Ghost of Sparky Stalcup 11:50 AM yesterday Great question. I'd give MU the edge for now because I think Jontay is at another level of anyone else on the floor. But it would be competitive. by dmatter 12:04 PM yesterday And here is a rather shocking response to a question on Mike Porter JR. There's a reason he slipped to 14 ... and maybe the Nuggets will have buyer's remorse. I hope for his sake he gets healthy and has a good career, but I'm not sure I would have risked a draft pick on him. by dmatter 12:05 PM yesterday
  6. Ingvi and the Icelanders on the short end to Ukraine, 94-72. Ingvi with 15 on 5 of 20 shooting, 4 of 13 from the arc. Next up is Greece in the 13-16 classification bracket. Sweden and Romania face off in the other 13-16 game. Winners go for 13-14 place and losers go for 15-16 place.
  7. You have mentioned two interesting items that will develop throughout the season. First is Wiley subbing for Bess. They have two entirely different skill sets. Bess is a driver and rebounder. Wiley is a three point shooter. Different looks for sure. It will be interesting to see Ford's rotation. Bess and Goodwin are targeted for 30+ minutes, in my opinion. I don't have a good feel for Isabell yet, under Ford's game plan. For discussion purposes, let's give Isabell 30 also. (He went 34.4 mpg last season.)That leaves plenty of minutes (30) for Wiley but few for anyone else in the backcourt. (Wiley hit 21.7 mpg last season.) Second is buying into Team Blue and checking egos at the door. This is huge. Ford listed Chemistry first on his recent Rothstein interview when asked what they are working on in practices. Both Isabell and Wiley mentioned making contributions as to why they wanted to come to SLU. Will fewer minutes and fewer shots be acceptable for them? Will they buy into hopefully more wins (for the team) with a diminished spotlight on them individually? We all certainly hope so. Same with the freshmen. All five won't get equal or even meaningful minutes. Will they still buy into Team Blue? Time will tell.
  8. Okay, on to Ukraine tomorrow. Perhaps a better match-up for the Icelanders? Ukraine lost a 'buzzer beater' today versus Turkey, 104-46. (Oops, that buzzer was for the tip off.)
  9. Ford, "I think in the next few years people will be talking about the Atlantic 10 in the same terms (as the Big East)."
  10. Ford was on a radio show last season and said his preferred rotation was, in fact, 8 + 2, as you have wisely pointed out. He said the 8 all get heavy minutes and then the 2 were to 'hold the fort'. I won't speculate if he will have use type of rotation this upcoming season nor whom the 8 and the 2 might be. I might even vary game to game depending on the opponent. It is a safe assumption that there will be players who are primarily bench warmers.
  11. Barentine, Ivester and Tadyseak all want to know why they aren't on your list.
  12. You are moving the goal posts, TGloryTDays, The issue was not whether Goodwin would start, it was whether or not Ford PROMISED, GUARANTEED, he would start at POINT GUARD by simply showing up. No one questioned his ability. The issue was what Ford did or did not promise. You, nor any other poster, ever provided anything that said Ford guaranteed a starting Point Guard job to Goodwin or to anyone else. Goodwin earned his role last season through hard work at practice and during the games.
  13. Here is Derrick Goold's response to that question in his chat yesterday. GOOLD: I asked around about this Sunday because he's been mentioned before as a rising manager candidate. One thing I was told was how Pendleton has been looking for a situation where he could, in part, pick a coaching staff as well. Not sure that's going to be the case entirely with the Cardinals. They'll have Shildt there and Maddux of course, and several other coaches are valued by the organization like Oquendo with his two-year deal and McGee, of course. So, is that the situation Pendleton wants? He may not have the choice if he wants to be manager -- or he may only want to be manager if he has the choice.
  14. Mo and DeWitt have both said that Schildt will be manager for the rest of the season. So your 'sooner' won't be sooner than October.
  15. Everyone gets a participation ribbon.
  16. Iceland moves onto bracket play. They will play the winner of Group C, (currently Germany who plays last place in Group Romania later today), on Wednesday. There is a losers bracket in the tourney, so Ingvi and Iceland will have at least four more games. They play until the full 1-16 bracket is finalized. http://www.fiba.basketball/europe/u20/2018/fullschedule
  17. Nice game by Ingvi, but another loss for the Icelanders. Better shooting from 3 today, 3 of 8.
  18. The distance from the basket to the three-point line varies by competition level: in the National Basketball Association (NBA) the arc is 23 feet 9 inches from the basket; in FIBA the arc is 22 feet 1 3⁄4 inches from the basket; and in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) the arc is 20 feet 9 inches from the basket.
  19. Something is wrong in this paragraph of the article. In addition to his international experience, Gudmundsson competes with the Grindavik basketball club, which plays in the Icelandic Domino's League, the top league in Iceland. He is coming off a season in which he played all 25 games and averaged 10.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg and 3.5 apg. Gudmundsson shot 51.6 percent (47-91) from the field and 80 percent (32-40) from the free-throw line. 25 games at 10.9 ppg is 272.5 points. Even if ALL of Ingvi's field goals are three pointers, this doesn't add up. 47 x 3 =141 points. Add 32 FT to this and you get 173 points, far from 272.
  20. I can't believe TGloryTDays is banging on Johnson. Tell me who on this season's team will better Johnson's 39.4 3FG%. He also hit 43.1% in A10 games. Who do we have that will replicate that? Johnson's three pointers look good on paper and looked good during the game. Johnson was also second on the team in blocks. He will be missed.
  21. Yes. And French is shooting 100% on FT!
  22. STEVE, TROLL ALERT. First post by Banks, comes in to trash Ream. Really? Sooooo obvious. Book it, TrollPants #3 or #4. You got Tilowhisky, Harry Rogers and now Banks - all the same troll.
  23. Three other comments from the interview: Biggest thing they are working on in practice is team chemistry. Called Ford a confidence coach. Example, if you are open go ahead and shoot even if you are having a bad day. Phil Forte may be the best shooter in the gym. Also Bess hasn’t picked a masters program yet.
  24. That was Larussa at spring training. Stopped at a stop light, car in gear but foot on brake. He was either passed out or asleep.
  25. Tim Ream has signed a two year extension at Fulham. Looks like the Billiken great is being recognized in the Premium League for his contributions. Job well done Mr. Ream.
