  1. Here is an interesting post on the A10's NCAA tourney possibilities from Grant Labedz, found on https://www.a10talk.com/forums/threads/3-bid-league-thread.79/ In with some room to breathe Dayton: Good Wins (#56 Virginia Tech, #68 Georgia), Bad Losses (None), Upcoming Chances (#40 Saint Mary's, #30 Colorado) VCU: Good Wins (#33 LSU), Bad Losses (None), Upcoming Chances (#51 Wichita St. on the road) Some work to do Saint Louis: Good Wins (#79 Belmont), Bad Losses (None), Upcoming Chances (#14 Auburn, #76 Kansas St.) Rhode Island: Good Wins (#80 Alabama), Bad Losses (None), Upcoming Chances (#61 Providence, #90 Western Kentucky) Richmond: Good Wins (#57 Wisconsin), Bad Losses (None), Upcoming Chances (#80 Alabama on the road) George Mason: Good Wins (#89 New Mexico St.), Bad Losses (None), Upcoming Chances (#49 TCU on the road) Duquesne: Good Wins (None), Bad Losses (None), Upcoming Chances (None) It feels like we have 3 or 4 teams that are right on the cusp but need another good win or two to start getting looks on the bubble. I think Saint Louis has the best shot at this point with a semi-neutral site game against Auburn as well as a neutral site game against Kansas St., though the Billikens are further off the bubble from a Kenpom standpoint than Rhode Island, Richmond, or Duquesne. George Mason's win over New Mexico St. was nice, but I don't think it's going to be enough to get them in consideration without a 2nd or 3rd place finish in the Atlantic 10 (including wins over Dayton/VCU). Richmond might have a sneaky chance if it gets healthy soon and rolls through the A-10 with some big wins; I really think it depends how good Wisconsin ends up being (my guess is not great in the Big Ten, but the Badgers always seem to do better in league play). Rhode Island has had opportunities, but they haven't been easy opportunities -- Maryland and West Virginia on the road are games you're not going to win very often. Finally, I'm happy for Duquesne off to a 6-0 start, but no good winnable chances in non-conference play.
  2. 7 Home, 1 Away Home FG 46%, FT 54%, 3FG 40% Away FG 36%, FT 57%, 3FG 26%
  3. I'm pretty sure Ford uses only external websites and comments from our all-knowing-poster on this forum to figure out his game plan.
  4. I agree on Bess. He had three years of Ford and knew the program. Yuri has three months and doesn't know Ford's program. He needs the repeats in practice. I'm not second guessing the injuries contributing to the turnovers, but decision making is also a factor.
  5. Don't know about Yuri. Ford said it is him holding Yuri out, not Yuri asking out. If you remember, Bess was held out of practice a lot last season. Didn't elaborate on the cramps. But I find that strange. Perhaps @Old guy an elaborate. Amazing, Ford didn't say a word about @glazedandconfused talking to him about the rotation he is using. That should have been headlines.
  6. It's always good to hear these podcasts. For those who didn't hit the link, more that Ford said besides the prior post from Billnation08: "If you want more minutes, your positives have to outweigh your negatives. That's not happening with a lot of the newcomers." He wants the positives to double the negatives. A lot of the positives are player specific based on their resume. Looking for block outs, block out missed, how you give up points, help defense rotation, deflections, etc. [Very interesting discussion.] Said Jordan's 19 rebounds were due to his 'relentless' mentality. Yuri doesn't practice the day before games - Ford's precaution. He said he shouldn't have thrown Hankton into the game. He is cleared to play, but not at 100%. No time table on Thatch, but yes, he will be out for a while. Tulane - Might be the most improved team in the country, to this point, compared to where they were last year. Four of five starters are transfers. Two starters are transfers from Kansas and Georgia. I highly recommend you spend 16 minutes and listen to the entire session.
  7. Thanks. I’m dazed and confused on who is whom. Pretty sure neither is Tilly.
  8. Wow, it just occurred to me that Clocktoweraccords2004 is not the same poster as glazedandconfused, or is he/she/it? And which one is GloryDays/TRavTFord?
  9. Yes, this is what Ford did say, and he added Perkins. He did not say that they were good defenders, only that they both have greatly improved since the start. We don't know where their floor was when they started. Ford may, or may not, still consider them to be lacking defensively. Ford was EXTREMELY unhappy with perimeter defense during the opening half of the SIUC game, which would include just about everyone who played except French. I thought he was going to punch Highmark during the very short interview as they left the floor.
  10. That's 6 on 5. Cool. "I'm not starting necessarily my best five, I'm starting the five I need to start."

  12. In the AP poll today, Dayton comes in 19th. VCU and Richmond both got votes.
  13. I heard there is a clinic in Barcelona on shooting free throws underhanded. Ford is picking up a brochure.
  14. I added the owner of the Turnover. Bell-4 Collins - 5 French -9 Goodwin - 2 Jacobs - 2 Thatch - 1 So it is extremely obvious, it goes without saying, needless to say, beyond a shadow of a doubt, ipso facto, that the answer to our initial 5 minute turnovers is to bench French and Collins. 'Ball don't lie.' I'm sure this will make our MBM's happy.
  15. Oh my gosh, How many Stars, where is he Rated............. The man can Hoop!
  16. A handful of posters seem to be all uptight about game starts. So I went back to the Game Logs and looked at the starters and what the score was at a point closest to the 5 minute mark. Certainly in almost every game a substitution for various reasons had been made before the five minute mark. You can go back and research that if you want. All who pay attention know that our starters for the first four games were French, Goodwin, Thatch, Jacobs and Bell. Collins has started the last four since Thatch was injured/hurt/demoted. FGCU - SLU 9 - 6 Valpo - SLU 13-12 EWash - SLU 10-6 Seton Hall - Hall 10-3 High Point - SLU 9-2 Belmont - SLU 5-2 BC - Boston College 9-1 SIUC - SIUC 10-3 So draw your own conclusions. The lineup with Thatch starting has lead 3 of 4 games, and the lineup with Collins in has lead 2 of 4 games.
  17. Goodwin is now 8th in Career Steals. French moved to 19th Career Rebounds. (There is some 'noise' in the rebound record stats.)
  18. I heard that earlier this season Santos was playing in some pro? league in Chile.
  19. Great post, deserves more than a 'reaction'. My comments on selected one's of yours: 2) Some posters don't want to hear this. They want to blame Player A or Player B. Our starts haven't worked because of what you stated. 4) Two words, Triple Double. Next question please. 5) I'm in the Wiz camp in that you need at least 8 games to draw any conclusions. We have four players who have taken over 10 three's and are hitting over 30%. Jimerson 43.9%, Weaver 37.5%, Goodwin 33.3% and Jacobs 30.4%. Any of these guys can light it up on a given night. And per the link, some of the Flavor of the Day posters would have benched Bess after his SIU performance last year. One we all know would have certainly thrown him under the bus.
  20. Nice initial post by Sheltie. Three comments from the cheap seats: 1) Ya'all need to listen to Coach Ford, and accept what he says. "I'm not necessarily starting my best five, I'm starting the five I need to start." Lucky for us Ford doesn't subscribe to the Flavor of the Day Club. For those who want a different starting five, here are the opening sequence of plays... Goodwin misses a jumper Goodwin with a turnover Collins beat off the dribble and fouls for an 'and one" Turnover by French Missed jumper by French, Missed jumper by Bell. Turnover by Jacobs So I assume you want all five starters on the bench. 2) A key that turned the game around was putting Jacobs and Goodwin at point. The Saluki's weren't guarding Collins. His man was sinking into the post, clogging up French territory. When Jacobs took over they had to guard him, and that pulled the defender away from French, opening up the lane for Hasahn. French scored 13 of his 15 in the second half. 3) I really liked their freshman Domask. We had no answer for him. Perkins tried his best, but couldn't handle him. As Spoon once told Highmark, "if you aren't going to defend your guy, at least try to outscore him." That almost worked, but Domask had 21 to Perkins 18. How did Lusk steal him away from Marquette and Wisconsin? He was Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin last season.
  21. I doubt If anyone will wear Gilyard out. He’s an upperclassman now, knows the ropes, and is playing 35+ min per game. He’s hitting over 50% from the three. The KC native has had an All A10 start to his junior year. Richmond will be a load for us. They are 8+ deep this season and we all remember how Golden had his way with us in the past. We just don’t have a good matchup for him. He twisted an ankle and missed last game but it doesn’t appear his injury is severe. Moody is coaching as his job depends on this season, and it does.
  22. You should talk to Coach Ford. I’m sure he would appreciate you informing him that he is wrong on how he is handling Hargrove. And while you are at it, tell Coach who to sit so Hargrove can play. He will appreciate your wisdom.
  23. God stuff @Sheltiedave One stat you didn’t list was mpg. I find it interesting that we have 9 averaging double digit minutes and one more sitting at 9.0. One thing I will be watching is, hopefully without a player being injured, will Ford shorten his rotation. Goodwin is tops on the mpg list at 31. Even he can handle more. We aren’t playing a havoc style defense so I am not seeing many players asking for a blow. As the season progresses, will Ford fine tune his rotation as he sees how players interact with each other?
