  1. Regarding the issue of football for SLU, I think that the mere mention of football when associated with the current $20 M deficit in the budget may be enough to give Dr. Pestello palpitations and shortness of breath. Let's not scare the man, we want him around for a long time (or I should say I would like to see him around for a long time). Regarding rowing and the Ivys. Keep in mind that our endowment is not in the same league as theirs. Just to provide an example the most recent fund raising campaign for Harvard netted something like $ 6.7 B, yes with a B. Not even in dreams can we hope to raise anywhere close to that amount in our funding campaigns.
  2. Good thing Willie, I do hope they are hammered as you say. However, I have found there is a significant distance between hope and reality in many issues. We should wait and see what happens in this case. And again, I hope you are right.
  3. Bonwich I can answer that as well. I do not have a twitter account but I can see this video in my computer from this link. I find I can access twitter feeds if someone provides a link to get to the proper place. I have never attempted to enter twitter first and then navigate it myself.
  4. OK Bonwich, here is a link: https://twitter.com/NCAASoccer/status/788862306688000000/video/1
  5. OK this proves two things: 1. I really do not know much about basketball as a sport, certainly not what is going on in other programs and nothing about the NCAA other than it exists. 2. UNC has access to capable lawyers, they may not be punished as much as you believe they will, just let the lawyers do their thing.
  6. To answer your question Cowboy, there is no case against UNC as far as I know.
  7. What did the retweet say?
  8. If you think about it, there is a somewhat perverse advantage to be ranked last in A10. No one will be surprised when we lose a game, and lots of people will be surprised when we win one. You could picture this as a stealth position, we may be better than what we are expected to be and finding that out will rock people out of their comfortable way of looking at SLU, on the other hand if we meet expectations no one will blink.
  9. I thought and posted before that French would approach his commitment in a methodical fashion carefully weighing pros and cons for all of his options. I got a fair amount of criticism for posting this. However and regardless of the level of criticism I received, French appears to be in no hurry to announce his commitment. Maybe, just maybe, I was calling it right. In conclusion, we will know when he is ready.
  10. Roby's problems last season went much deeper than just having finger taped which affected his shooting. He did mention himself what a mess in terms of organization and playing coordination last season was. I think he probably will show significant improvement with Ford. I have high hopes for Johnson with or without taped fingers.
  11. HoosierPal, to make you feel better, the dislocated finger is not a very major problem. However it may require the use of taping of the finger for playing and thus it may reduce his effectiveness as a shooter. Give him a few days, he should be back in practice.
  12. Now let's be clear about this. I do not know what land it is that Kroenke owns in Maryland Heights or nearby. What I do know, having gone through the Maryland Expressway many times is that a lot of that undeveloped land out there is very low in comparison with the river and quite prone to low level flooding after a couple of days of heavy rains. Just drive by it after it rains heavily for a couple of days. Since I do not think it is MLS's intention to have people park in fields with a few inches of standing water on them (again after heavy rains, but it remains muddy for a while after the standing water is gone), or of building the stadium on stilts or using artificial elevation of any kind, it seems to me that this kind of idea will require extensive and expensive drainage of the area to make it suitable for such a venue. Not exactly the best location for building a new professional soccer stadium using a more or less restricted budget.
  13. Like they say Brianstl "Money talks." I agree.
  14. What I am going to say comes from a knowledge base that does not include the technical aspects of coaching basketball. I think it will be an iffy season for Crawford because of his health issues, I really cannot see him being able to maintain a really good level of play for the whole season. I hope Gillmann is fully recovered by the time the season starts and is able to play well, but we will see if he can do so since he never played that well when he did play before his injury. As far as Neufeld goes, with the recent mono bout he is a wild card in my mind, he may be able to play reasonably well but I would not bet on it, and playing reasonably well will again require him to play better than he has done so far. I expect Reggie to play as he did last year with some improvement. This accounts for 4 our of the 9 players on Scholarships. My expectations for these four are not bright. The remaining returning players are Roby and Bishop. I would expect to see improvement in both of them. Particularly Roby would be able to play more of a position and know what is expected of him, something he apparently had trouble with last year. Bishop was a freshman last year and played reasonably well. I would expect him to be better this year and perhaps become the main point guard this season. I do expect these two to even surprise us in a positive manner, at least occasionally. As for the rest, Welmer we has never played in competition, so he is a question mark, and he does not appear to have bulked up yet. I know a lot is expected of him, and we will certainly see what he manages to do. Moore and Johnson will have to rise up to the occasion and impress everyone with how good they are if we are going to have a semi decent year. However we must keep in mind that this will be the first time any of these three play competitively at D1 level. Finally I expect to see Hines and Psimitis playing this year. I do not know how much they will play or how well they will play. I think Hines will try his best, he has always done so, and we will see how good that is. The other kid is a total question mark. Overall, from my point of view, a lot will depend how how good and for how long Crawford, Neufeld, Gillmann, and Agbeko manage to play this season. If they can manage to perform well for most of the season despite their issues, then the season may be OK to better than what we think, if not I think it will not be a good season. This does not mean to say we physically cannot improve our current standings, only that it looks like a difficult thing to do and depends largely on health issues. Finally, I think this season will give us some information as to how much lemonade Ford can make out of lemons. The team he has is far from being a championship team, we will see how he manages to do this year with this team. This is what I really want to see, as a sort of a preview or trailer for future years coached by Ford.
  15. So, you think they all have the same glasses prescription?
  16. Does George Mason run a cloning department?
  17. I can see exploiting the ying vs yang theory of opposites and having two mascots, one fat, smiley, and friendly; the other one lean, fierce, and scary. I cannot see having a mascot that is plainly ridiculous.
  18. Check French's tweets, I think he was answering a tweet he received just before from a girl who complained that people she loved were against her. I do not think it has much to do with basketball.
  19. Glasses were never part of the Billiken image.
  20. My father was the one involved in dairy business. I have happy childhood memories of the cows and used to love all about them (including the smell of cow sh_t) when I was a child. Hsmith19 there is not much residual Nehanderthal genes in the current human genome and it is mixed very well with the other genes in the pool. Yes, humans have interbred just about since they became a separate species a very long time ago.
  21. MD Georgetown '71, Internal Medicine residency Georgetown '71-'75, MPH Tropical Diseases and Microbiology Harvard '74, Immunology and Microbiology Harvard '75-'78. I worked 30+ years as a medical director, corporate level, and consulted for multiple HR departments regarding disability, ADA, etc... Happy now?
  22. You cannot bet on this without adding the effect of the prior injuries. I'd say worse than we would like it to be.
  23. Well, this is quite likely because there are hamstring injuries and again there are hamstring injuries, I tore mine in 1975, was in a full leg cast 8 weeks and when the cast came out my leg looked like a string, lots thinner than the other leg. I could not climb stairs using both legs for a long time afterwards. It all depend on how severe his injury was and I do not know how bad it was.
  24. Never mind Cowboy, I think I found it: " Travis Ford on Crawford: "They did some tests, and they looked good. It's when he's ready and feels he can go full speed." The only thing I can say is that it does not look good to me. Hamstring injuries are not simple injuries, it is one of the major muscle bundles in the body, combine that with his prior surgery and the soft tissue injury (which is recurrent), and, whatever the tests say, the prognosis for full fledged play during the season is not very good. That said, this kid is a workhorse, he has played injured and with pain in past couple of seasons, so there is no reason to think he will be staying away from play. The real questions are: 1. How well will he be able to play, and 2. How much will Ford let him play knowing he is hurting himself. I do not know the answers to these questions, but I think he will definitely try to play as much as he can... Thank you Slu72, I think I referred to the wrong tweet, but my answer is still the same. He is injured and he will try to play injured with possibly a partial recovery, he cannot be expected to play as well as he could without the injury.
  25. Cowboy can you provide a link to Stu's tweet on MC?
