This is absolutely correct.

It is what it is, nothing we can do about it.

I hope for exactly the same outcome as you do.

Thank you for the data RiseandGrind. Martin has had reasonably successful seasons in his career and has had teams going into post conference tournament play frequently. However his teams made it only once to sweet 16 in the NCAA, and were eliminated in the first round the only other time they played in the NCAA tournament. His teams made it to only the first or second rounds in the NIT the four times they were invited to it, and won the CIT championship once. Out of 7 times his teams were invited to post conference tournaments, they were invited to play in the NCAA only twice. They were reasonably successful only once when they got to sweet 16, and they also won one CIT tournament's championship. Otherwise his teams record in the one other NCAA tournament they went to and the four NIT tournaments they went to ended with elimination in the first of second rounds. Martin is certainly a capable coach, but his teams have been eliminated out of post conference play after the first or second rounds in most cases. There is no reason we should expect Mizzou to do a lot better that his other teams did in the past. If they manage to do better this season than in the past it will certainly be due to the talent he has managed to recruit for the coming season. However it remains to be seen if his current Mizzou team can do better this season than his prior teams have done in the past.

They may very well do so if all comes together the way we all hope it will be. The rating of 8 given to us is very conservative and probably (or should I say hopefully) not realistic, we can be better than that for the season. We will know for sure as the season progresses.

I have no idea of Martin's prior performance record as a D1 basketball HC. Anyone knows?

People believe what they want to believe, another reason to use the ignore button.

Looking forward to it brownindians.

With a law degree on board it is not very likely that Mike Crawford will have much need for his MBA. Do you think the guy who has the most diplomas from the "best" University comes ahead of the guys that went to "lower" schools? I am afraid this is not so. A lot of the diploma collectors don't do that well in the corporate environment. If you do not believe this, try to hang your Harvard or MIT diploma in your office when you have a senior boss who graduated from Mizzou or from Vancouver.

I believe there has been some discussion regarding the problem of having many new players in a team for any new season. In short the concerns are how well the new players will be able to fit with the team and get to know one another to play as a team during the season. These are reasonable concerns. If every season brings many times the number of transfers we are seeing currently, both coming in and going out, how will this play out in reality, particularly for mid to low end schools?

The prior post was in response to this one.

If this is the picture you refer to as proof of Gordon being at Mizzou last weekend, please look at the tab or sticker he has on his shirt. The top line says 2016, then Mizzou then vs Georgia, and then the date which I cannot read. He may have been at Mizzou for all I know, but the picture above is from last year.
-
OK you are probably right
-
Maybe I dd, but I thought people in the board were giving in to the fictional narrative that is circulating about Gordon. Again I see no reason to despair about this until he de-commits from SLU. I am certain sleaze bag at Mizzou is trying his best, so be it, you either have to trust Gordon at his word or not. It is up to him to show he is worthy of our trust.

I do not understand all the worry and tribulation about being included in such a flawed instrument as the 144 list. I posted the predicted rankings by the 144 list last year, versus the actual rankings at the end of the season. The authors included 26 teams within the 144 rankings that actually missed the 144 mark altogether at the end of the season, included one of the teams that ranked well into the 300's at the end of the season. Of course including all of these teams in the list indicates that 26 teams that did make up to 144 rank at the end of the season were not included in the list. This list as a predictive tool is a waste of time, its function is primarily to provide a subjective description of 144 teams they like. Do not see the reason to waste any sleep over this.

This kind of technique of creating false narratives is quite prevalent nowadays, don't you agree? The only way to deal with them is to simply ignore them. Let's analyze the current one about Gordon a bit. Sure our team will be better with Gordon in it, but are we really going to be that much worse if he decided to jump ship? Whatever happens we will have a strong team next year, perhaps not as strong as it would be with Gordon in it, but pretty strong never the less. From the point of view of Gordon, and I know that kids don't think this way, the mere association with characters like Martin will leave a residue of dirt on him, on the way he thinks, and on the way he acts that that will be hard to clean up later on. One of the good things you learn in the service is that there are two basic kinds of people: good people and not good people. You associate yourself with the good ones, the ones that are solid, and leave the squirrely, opportunistic, self serving, or plainly bad ones aside. Tilmon may not realize this at this time but he made a bad mistake choosing Martin as a coach. What Martin does may not be illegal but surely it is a load of dirt, which (I do not know or want to know the guy so I cannot say for sure) most likely reflects the way he really is in every aspect of his life, and gets spread liberally over everything he touches. I hope Gordon stays with SLU and Ford, it will be better for him in the long run.

The Costco where I shop, outside St. Louis (Manchester, MO) frequently carries all kinds of Mizzou gear as well. This was the first time I ever saw SLU gear for sale in this store. Good luck with Costco, and yes I am glad SLU gear is getting out beyond the bookstore.
-
I think this is probably only available in the local St. Louis stores, local managers have leeway to include local products (like Missouri wine) in the merchandise they carry. I also doubt these SLU items will be sold at the local Costco for a long time, they were displayed next to Mizzou items and I will be surprised if either of them are there in a couple of months. You possibly could try calling the local STL store and see if they can sell you merchandise and ship it to you, I think they might do it if you are interested. Try locating the store via the Costco.com, use the zip code 63005 and they will show you the three stores in STL, it is likely that some of the stores might of might not do this transaction so you could try calling all 3 of them. Good luck.

Even better Box, you would have had enough money to buy Humphrey's and still be really wealthy.

Well almaman, let's just say that Jim Crews and Travis Ford are very different fellows in every conceivable way.

I see you have not had the enema yet, too bad. When you get to be my age you may indeed be able to enter a discussion of what it feels to have dead and decomposed children of your own. Until then I think it is time for a mutual ignore.
-
No difference bud, just wait to get older, a lot older, and you will, almost as a law of nature, experience the whole gamut of experiences life has in store for every single one of us. One of the very worst ones I had was when my son was found dead and decomposed in his apartment, he was 26 and lived in another state. I do not wish that on anyone, not you or anyone else. So please try the enema and keep politics out of the thread, it is much more pleasant that way.
