  1. I could not like your post, so I had to do it this way. Agree with everything you said. I don't think that Hughes is as good defensively as the MBM narrative. That being said, I also think he's a better three point shooter than he showed last year. I think he's staying, so my hope is that he buys fully into Schertz's system, stops taking bad shots, and becomes a much better player. I've said it many time before, Hughes elite skill is three point shooting. That is what he has shown since high school. Yet, he has moments, many of them last season, where he thinks he needs to be his dad. If he just lets the three point opportunities come to him, as they will under Schertz's offense, we will like the results a lot better next year.
  2. The JGood and French years were fun. Yuri was fun to watch and appreciate as well. He would always get us optimistic with recruiting. The A-10 tournament run and NCAa appearance was nice. I also appreciated the way he was a non stop promoter of the program.
  3. Let’s get this thing announced and start bringing in/back players.
  4. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2024/04/05/indiana-state-josh-schertz-to-be-new-saint-louis-basketball-coach-nit-run-mvc-champs/73184760007/
  5. What do you mean? Are you saying he’s coming as an assistant?
  6. I’m sitting at Lambert waiting for a flight and the Minnesota women’s basketball team just arrived in the STL.
  7. I like that the national perception is that we are underachieving given our potential. ST. LOUIS Out : Travis Ford SLU sacked Ford moments after the team's season ended in the A-10 Tournament. He was there eight seasons and went to one NCAA Tournament. Many in the business believe this program has been an underachiever vs. its potential for decades. With no hire yet, it's only fair to assume SLU is waiting on a coach whose season is still ongoing. Josh Schertz is the presumptive guy here.
  8. I’ve been to road games at VCU (twice), Dayton (three times), Butler (twice), Fordham, St. Joe, Duquesne, and Davidson. Most of these were in bitter cold temperatures. So, no, not soft. Just wouldn’t mind more trips like the one to Davidson last year where it was in the low 60s.
  9. With Mack at the helm, they should be better than half of the A-10 very quickly. Also, being better than SLU isn't hard after this past season.
  10. But isn't that what is happening? Guys on this board are saying he is bringing players with him. Where would they be getting that from?
  11. With Schertz's system requiring bigs that are a threat to shoot from outside, I was really hoping he would stay here.
  12. Totally didn't think about that angle when it was discussed. We need more southern teams in the A-10. Most destinations are bitter cold to watch a Billiken conference road game.
  13. Billikens were the more aggressive team and their defense stymied Wisconsin. Almost feel like we should be up by more.
  14. Keshon Gilbert averaged 13.7 for Iowa Stste this year. I wouldn’t call that a flame out.
  15. If he is choosing Charleston, I have to think we could have brought him here. Charleston is probably going to be paying him a lot less than we are going to pay Schertz.
  16. It seems to me like this board thinks he's a good source when we like what he is saying and thinks he is not a good source when we don't.
  17. What a bonehead move this guy made. Got zero playing time at Creighton and would have gotten a ton of playing time here.
  18. If Mack to Charleston is true, I have to assume that we could have gotten him. I'm sold on Schertz despite my initial concerns about having no big wins. However, I have to think that years down the road, we will all look back at this hire as a choice between Schertz, Mack, and Ahearn. This board's choice was clearly Schertz.
  19. So does he need a waiver since he's a two time transfer?
  20. I questioned Schertz as our choice for coach about a month ago for not having any big wins on his resume at Indiana State. It wasn't a criticism, just and observation that he had not beaten anyone of note other than Drake, who ISU also lost to twice this year. Just want to point out that in the NIT, Schertz has beaten the #65 NET team (SMU), the #89 NET team (Minnesota), and the #37 NET team (Cincinnati). Only Cincinnati could be considered really quality win, but I am still much more excited about the possibility, or hopefully likelihood, of him being our next coach.
  21. If/When this deal is finalized, Chaifetz and other involved donors and May need to get a lot of credit. There are a whole lot of ways this search could have gone south, but they made it happen with their top choice despite a late challenge by a big time program. Also, If/when Schertz signs the deal, I think he has to start out extra popular here given that he may have passed on a chance to become the next coach at Louisville to become our coach. It's one thing to beat out a big time program for a recruit. It's another when you beat them out for a coach you both want.
  22. Character issues would be different. I agree if a coach has personality flaws that wouldn't be preferred. However, if it is just an issue that someone got caught up on prior pay for play scandal, I don't see how that should preclude them from jobs now.
  23. But how would someone cheat now or need to cheat now? What could WW do to get us in trouble when players get paid legally now?
  24. He's still an advisor to the Commission and still has a lot of sway.
