Well, I have been a professor for 10+ years at both a big state U and a private catholic U. Nothing about SLU's recent string of news falls under the category of the usual academic drama. Things are in need of a serious sorting.

Our alma mater is a mess.

It does not include medical faculty. The aaup separates med school faculty as their pay structure is very different. They have many more faculty on soft money and of course the physician salaries get more complicated as they are paid by the hospital and the university. Business faculty are included and they typically make 30 percent or more than folks from other schools. Generally humanities folks are at the bottom of that scale.

I am not the one complaining either. I am the one pointing out that 1. Professors aren't rich and 2. The issue doesn't center around salary.

Absurd. "Your job is better than mine so stop complaining!" I guess you shouldn't complain either as others are unemployed and would love to have your job.

I wouldn't argue that professors don't make a good living. Just trying to add some perspective on the situation. The issue with Biondi isn't about a bunch of rich professors wanting more money.

I think I might buy that Billiken head. My wife's eyeroll at yhe suggestion was record breaking.

I am not a fan of this BUT it is a sensible way to get attention which is of course the goal. I agree that acknowledging it would be a mistake.

I feel less confident than I did a month ago but I think our inclusion will come. I think we are in the 12 but not he 10 though. I think it is therefore a question of when rather than if. That said, lips are tight around here all of a sudden so I have zero new info to support that opinion. Father Shanley was out of town all last week on conference business, so maybe we are close to real news.

All the talk around here has dried up like crazy. Seems like someone got tired of all the Providence based rumors and made a point to shut people up. It is night and day around here.

Is the U anything like Wash U? I used to do my laundry at the one on Hampton.

Nobody here is arguing Providence is in charge. I think you overstate the weight of the hoyas. Maybe they have a bully pulpit but they get exactly one vote.
