How many jobs out there are better than the SLU job currently? Louisville, Michigan, Washington, Ohio St (3 big ten teams for next year) for sure. Oklahoma St has money but kind of seems like a dead spot. Stanford is a good job but requires a unique candidate. West Virginia is just pretty meh. I would definitely not put Vandy ahead of SLU. This is currently a top 5 job on the market. Go get a stud.

The ceiling was capped with guys like Crews and Ford. 99% of people knew that when they were hired even if they were fans of the hire. The ceiling is capped with a guy like Bryce Drew. I've never been overly impressed with him as it is but he's not the guy to elevate you consistently. A Chris Mack (unlikely in my opinion) or Josh Schertz (per national insiders, he WANTS the SLU job) gives you that potential high ceiling guy. Schertz probably has a little more downside as he is unproven but I mean how much further is there to go? Does anyone here care if we are ranked 270th in kenpom or 210th? Schertz wants the job. Many fans want Schertz. He's for once an ascending guy. He has a high ceiling. The floor can't get much lower. Give him the job.

I'm fully with you here. I did think a guy like Holtmann was going to be a serious candidate as he seems like a typical May hire and a guy boosters could get behind. But with him off the board I just don't see any other scenario. Also maybe this is wishful thinking but the fans were right about Ford and I feel a lot of times after a fired coach, you kind of go in the opposite direction. Scherz seems like a very big opposite of Ford.

I'd rather the players get straight C's. Good grades mean not enough attention to basketball

There are guys I'd be fine with keeping like Jimerson, Medley, Thames, SVB/Zhang. But none of those are guys I feel any sort of NEED to keep.

Yeah it's an interesting situation. Sounds like Porter is saying no. DeVries and Mack seem like they're shooting higher or waiting for a perfect fit. McCollum is likely off the board. I'm all for getting someone on board ASAP but if things fall apart with Schertz, we need to be patient and not panic on a Tom Crean type move.

But it doesn't really matter how or why it happened. It's just that trying to keep everything a deep secret and trying to control the media just doesn't work. And then Ford got put in an awkward position during his press conference. It's just a failure.

I think the athletic department was willing to drop the news over the weekend like planned but then the national media got a pulse on it and they wanted it to be a local thing so they felt more in control. My guess is then even Kilcoyne dropped the news sooner than they planned. They wanted this to be quieter.

Also what a disaster for Chris May once again. There was still time on the clock when it was tweeted he was fired. It's like he thought that waiting would give him more control or let it be done quietly.

Correct. Team Blue was always a forced gimmick but at least it kind of had some meaning back in the Goodwin/French era. The past few years it's become more of a joke than anything with even some inside the program admitting (behind closed doors) that it's annoying. Just win.
