  1. Chaminade is not big, but the key to beating them in my opinion is handling their pressure and turning it into a half court game. If they shoot poorly, it may not matter if Hannah, Lockhart, and Beal are forcing turnover after turnover and merely shooting layups. The game I saw the score was 12-0 before the other team had even run an offensive set and Chaminade had not attempted a shot beyond a couple of feet. It is amazing that 5 of the 7 deep are sophomores. They are a very young team.
  2. The only point I was making was that the clock operators and official scorer have nothing to do with those stat boards that are consistently wrong. I was mostly defending them because I know two of the guys that typically do the game clock and shot clock and they do a nice job. The running stats are awful and I can see why people would complain about it, but nobody seems to really know who controls that. The clock operators and official scorer are an extension of the refs so if they were not doing their job properly I am assuming the refs would say something to the athletic department. They are being held accountable by the referees not Kosha or anyone else within the athletic department.
  3. I went to the opening round of the Chaminade Christmas Tournament as well. Pistol and I are both Chaminade alumns and will do everything we can to get Bradley Beal in a Billiken uniform, but that is going to be extremely difficult. I talked to Kelvin Lee after the game against Pattonville and he said that UNC was visiting this week. So we would now appear to be going up against the likes of KU, Illinois, Florida, and now UNC so I would put our chances at slim to none. As far as the game, Chaminade ran them out of the gym and played reserves for the majority of the second half. They would have put up over 100 if they kept the starters in. Chaminade really gets after it on defense with a full court press led by sophomore Brandon Hannah. We went to see Bradley Beal and he did not disappoint. Beal is just a scorer and he really lets the offense come to him. He did not force any shots and any time he had an inch it was 3 points. He has an effortless stroke and can really fill it up. I heard someone compare him to Stephen Curry and that is a fairly good comparison. I really liked the senior point guard Brandon Lockhart as well. He really sets things up on offense and plays an overall nice game. He made a couple of shots and showed some nice moves off of the bounce. He is a nice player. STL Hoops or Nate, do you know what level of programs are looking at Lockhart? Brandon Hannah was probably the most fun of the Chaminade trio to watch for my friends and I. He is an absolute beast. I do not know if I have seen a sophomore as physically strong as him. He is jacked up and can run like the wind. He looks like a linebacker, but from all accounts he will only play receiver. He attacked the rim on one play but lost control of the ball otherwise he may have ripped the rim down. He is only about 6'3 and did not appear to have guard skills offensively so I would assume football will be the sport that he pursues at the next level. He may want to reconsider his position on the gridiron though. Chaminade is a very exciting team to watch and I will probably make my way out to a couple more Red Devil games this season. STL or Nate, if you ever plan on heading out to a Chaminade game let me know.
  4. I am assuming that would have been fine had the girl who was running the clock been aware that they were going to be needing her to put a certain amount of time on the shot clock. It was pretty clear that the girl running the clock was preoccupied when the girl on the court kept asking for 30 seconds. The timeout activities seemed extremely sloppy last night.
  5. I am friends with the individual who runs the game clock at the games so I guess I have to chime in here. I go to most of the games and actually look forward to calling him out if there is ever anything that seems potentially his fault, but there have been no mistakes on his part in the games I have been to. His brother does the shot clock and I remember there was one game where there was a couple of shot clock issues, but I think that happens every where. My buddy said Majerus actually met with them to discuss the issue after that game. The official time and score information is completely separate from what is shown on the stat boards, I asked him if he controlled that and he said he has no idea who does that. I have full trust that those guys will not mess up. I am assuming you will not find a game clock operator in the country with a more impressive resume.
  6. I would have to go with these two games. I was not really much of a SLU fan growing up in St. Louis, but these two games were during my time at the university. That Louisville game was just an incredible game on a big time stage and then Drejaj beating the buzzer at the Family Arena was a lot of fun as well.
  7. I would think Mizzou and SLU have fairly comparable non conference schedules, but the big difference is that Mizzou plays in a BCS conference and not a mid major conference. So for Mizzou, they get the meat of their schedule after the new year and typically a chance to play a number of games against ranked opponents (the Big 12 is down this year so there won't be as many potential statement games). That is why I would like to see SLU schedule more aggressively. We won't have a chance to get a real signature win in conference play other than Xavier. Someone listed Nebraska as a quality opponent, well Mizzou will get them twice this year and they are a lower end of the conference team.
  8. Has anyone seen the numbers this kid is putting up for Dartmouth? He is averaging 21.4 points and 5.1 rebounds in 34.2 minutes a game in his senior season and recently surpassed 1,000 points for his career. Unfortunately, the Big Green are 2-6 on the year. Alex Barnett is a local kid from Cardinal Ritter. It is good to see him having some success on the court while getting an Ivy League education.
  9. What is the score?
  10. Does anyone else find this Meacham kid eerily similar to Kevin?
  11. It looks like the star for both teams are having tough shooting nights. Tommie is 2-12 and Dar Tucker is 1-7.
  12. Apparently they were at the strip club last night, so they may not be thinking too well right now.
  13. I agree and I do not understand this boards' infatuation with Kyle Cassity.
  14. We need Tommie to shoot better than 2 for 9.
  15. Daniel Lisch had a nice 1st half. I still don't understand why we shoot the ball so poorly; 36.7% in the 1st half.
  16. I think Yahoo is off, they have the score at 28-20 with 6:27 left in the half. Is the score actually 27-20?
  17. Anyone following on Yahoo will notice Daniel Lisch is already having a career night.
  18. Don't we have a couple of guys considered shooters coming in next season?
  19. Does anyone know who that guy was? He did an outstanding job.
  20. If it is Cotto, I don't think you will hear anything negative from Billiken fans. I was very impressed with the work he put in to get the qualifying score on the ACT with English being his second language. I certainly wish him well wherever he goes. I wonder if Roy's good friend Andry Strickland will comment on this.
  21. Is it hard to figure out that this thread is not about SLU basketball? If you have no interest in contributing to the thread, don't read it. When I log onto billikens.com right now I see a thread about Mizzou, Lacelde's, and the BCS system. I believe all of these threads are marked as off topic and it is not hard for me to get an idea what each thread is about. I think most of the people on here have no problem discussing other topics when Billiken basketball news may be a little slow. If not, this thread should be removed along with the other threads not relevant to SLU basketball.
  22. Mizzou did beat two teams that played in BCS bowl games last season in Illinois and Kansas. And they smashed a solid team from the SEC in the Cotton Bowl. They beat everyone except Oklahoma last year, so to say they did not beat a good team is a little much. They were legitimate last year and I think were capable of beating anyone. They were one half away from playing in the National Championship game. This year for whatever reason they did not have that same crispness on offense and the defense was just terrible. I am certainly disappointed with how the season turned out based on where we ended last season and heading into the season returning most of the core pieces from a top 5 caliber team. It is certainly not easy to build a national power year in and year out. Most programs will be mediocre and get that special player or group of players and make a run one or two years and then go back to being mediocre. For Mizzou to be a consistent top 20 team they need to recruit and recruit well, so I certainly agree with your initial comment. That is what it comes down to. The top teams have the top players. It is tough to get those top kids when your team does not win, so now Mizzou has some recent success to sell to these kids beyond just a vision. Mizzou has a solid group of recruits in their freshmen class this year and could be putting together another quality class this year. There are a couple of local guys that will determine just how good this class will be considered. You say Chase Coffman and Jeremy Maclin are flukes for Mizzou, but if you look at some of the recruits over the past couple of classes that may not be the case. With the offense Mizzou has run over the past couple of season they have had some success with getting commitments from highly rated receivers and tight ends. And they have physically the most gifted quarterback maybe to ever set foot on Mizzou's campus in Blaine Gabbert so the cupboards are far from bare in Columbia. Will they take a step back next season, I would think so with the loss of such a successful senior class, but there are some very talented players and more highly regarded recruits waiting in the wings.
  23. But one of the most disappointing teams over the past couple of seasons? Just this season in the preseason top 10 or close to it you had Auburn who finished the season 5-7 and 2-6 in conference, Wisconsin who holds a record of 7-5 and a 3-5 conference record in a bad conference, LSU with a 7-5 record and 3-5 conference record, and Clemson who holds a 7-5 record and 4-4 record in the ACC. You will not see any of those teams receiving votes in the most recent polls.
  24. Obviously it was a disappointing season, but I think you are going a little far in that comment. I was very disappointed in how Mizzou did, but at the end of the day they won the Big 12 North and if they beat Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl they will have a 10 win season. Certainly Tiger fans expected more, but to say this is one of the most disappointing teams in the last few years is ridiculous. I am assuming you were just trying to get a rise out of cheesycow though.
