  1. Daniel Lisch had a nice 1st half. I still don't understand why we shoot the ball so poorly; 36.7% in the 1st half.
  2. I think Yahoo is off, they have the score at 28-20 with 6:27 left in the half. Is the score actually 27-20?
  3. Anyone following on Yahoo will notice Daniel Lisch is already having a career night.
  4. Don't we have a couple of guys considered shooters coming in next season?
  5. Does anyone know who that guy was? He did an outstanding job.
  6. If it is Cotto, I don't think you will hear anything negative from Billiken fans. I was very impressed with the work he put in to get the qualifying score on the ACT with English being his second language. I certainly wish him well wherever he goes. I wonder if Roy's good friend Andry Strickland will comment on this.
  7. Is it hard to figure out that this thread is not about SLU basketball? If you have no interest in contributing to the thread, don't read it. When I log onto billikens.com right now I see a thread about Mizzou, Lacelde's, and the BCS system. I believe all of these threads are marked as off topic and it is not hard for me to get an idea what each thread is about. I think most of the people on here have no problem discussing other topics when Billiken basketball news may be a little slow. If not, this thread should be removed along with the other threads not relevant to SLU basketball.
  8. Mizzou did beat two teams that played in BCS bowl games last season in Illinois and Kansas. And they smashed a solid team from the SEC in the Cotton Bowl. They beat everyone except Oklahoma last year, so to say they did not beat a good team is a little much. They were legitimate last year and I think were capable of beating anyone. They were one half away from playing in the National Championship game. This year for whatever reason they did not have that same crispness on offense and the defense was just terrible. I am certainly disappointed with how the season turned out based on where we ended last season and heading into the season returning most of the core pieces from a top 5 caliber team. It is certainly not easy to build a national power year in and year out. Most programs will be mediocre and get that special player or group of players and make a run one or two years and then go back to being mediocre. For Mizzou to be a consistent top 20 team they need to recruit and recruit well, so I certainly agree with your initial comment. That is what it comes down to. The top teams have the top players. It is tough to get those top kids when your team does not win, so now Mizzou has some recent success to sell to these kids beyond just a vision. Mizzou has a solid group of recruits in their freshmen class this year and could be putting together another quality class this year. There are a couple of local guys that will determine just how good this class will be considered. You say Chase Coffman and Jeremy Maclin are flukes for Mizzou, but if you look at some of the recruits over the past couple of classes that may not be the case. With the offense Mizzou has run over the past couple of season they have had some success with getting commitments from highly rated receivers and tight ends. And they have physically the most gifted quarterback maybe to ever set foot on Mizzou's campus in Blaine Gabbert so the cupboards are far from bare in Columbia. Will they take a step back next season, I would think so with the loss of such a successful senior class, but there are some very talented players and more highly regarded recruits waiting in the wings.
  9. But one of the most disappointing teams over the past couple of seasons? Just this season in the preseason top 10 or close to it you had Auburn who finished the season 5-7 and 2-6 in conference, Wisconsin who holds a record of 7-5 and a 3-5 conference record in a bad conference, LSU with a 7-5 record and 3-5 conference record, and Clemson who holds a 7-5 record and 4-4 record in the ACC. You will not see any of those teams receiving votes in the most recent polls.
  10. Obviously it was a disappointing season, but I think you are going a little far in that comment. I was very disappointed in how Mizzou did, but at the end of the day they won the Big 12 North and if they beat Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl they will have a 10 win season. Certainly Tiger fans expected more, but to say this is one of the most disappointing teams in the last few years is ridiculous. I am assuming you were just trying to get a rise out of cheesycow though.
  11. What exactly would you say Cassity does? If driving and kicking is considered fundamentally sound and what we are looking for then I agree he is the best player on the team.
  12. Sorry about that, it was not in reference to your comments.
  13. Ok, now the thread has become worthless. I agree it should be locked or removed at this point.
  14. I love how anyone who writes anything about Mizzou is automatically a huge Mizzou fan and thus cannot be a SLU fan. The thread is marked as off-topic and the majority of the posts with any information on Mizzou was aimed to compare the two teams with regards to the huge recruiting classes both programs brought in. I did not read any posts aimed to get under anyone's skin.
  15. You should have known better than to even mention Mizzou on this board. The mention of the Tigers from Ol' Mizzou only causes problems. I think heading into the season there were definitely some similarities between the two programs. Both teams brought in a huge recruiting class and were relying on those new kids to mesh with some veteran leaders. For Mizzou they have three seniors, two of which are all conference caliber players and one who has been a starter for a couple of seasons, but is more of a role player. Similarly the Billikens have three seniors, two of which were viewed in the past as all conference caliber players and a third senior who was expected to be a starter in the post and a nice role player, but just has not produced. Mizzou has a little bit between their senior leaders and the new kids. Mizzou starts two junior guards in Zaire Taylor and JT Tiller who are both big time defensive players and they also have a sophomore that gets solid minutes off of the bench at the forward position. The only player SLU has between the seniors and new guys is Paul Eckerle. As far as recruiting classes and the new players, both programs brought in a large number of guys that are getting plenty of minutes. SLU brought in 7 kids and are redshirting one of those guys. Four of those guys are core players and the other two get some playing time off of the bench. Mizzou also added seven guys to their team when you include Zaire Taylor who transferred from Delaware. Among the six guys that truly have not been with the program, five are freshmen and one is a JUCO transfer. These new kids represent the bench and depth for the Tigers. So the rosters heading into the season were not too far off. The problem has been that the seniors for SLU have not been the all conference stars we needed them to be and we have had to rely on the freshmen more than they are capable of at this point. For Mizzou, they are getting big time production from Carroll and Lyons and they do not need to start any of their new kids with Taylor, Tiller, and Lawrence. The new kids can come in off of the bench and just play their game. They are not being asked to lead the team. Anderson and Majerus are at fairly similar places in getting their programs rolling. Anderson has been around longer, but if you are being fair to him this is his first full complete recruiting class. They only had one scholarship available for last year's class due to violations from Quinn so this is the class that I will really judge Anderson on. He had plenty of time to scout and recruit these kids and these were the guys he felt fit his system. For Majerus, this is his first full recruiting class and we will all base our opinion of him and the program on how this class develops in the years to come. So I think it was certainly fair to draw some comparisons between the two programs and not get ridiculed for it. I think Mizzou has had a great start, but they have yet to play a true road game. Remember how excited we were about our team before our first road trip? Mizzou has a couple of nice tests in the coming weeks with Illinois in St. Louis and the trip down south to take on Georgia. The outcome of those games will give us a better idea about what kind of team they are. Beating USC in Puerto Rico and smashing Cal are definitely impressive wins for the Tigers, but their other opponents have been pretty bad teams. I think Mizzou has definitely given their fans something to be excited about after years of nothing. And although Billikens have not been overly impressive on the court of late, the production of the freshmen has to be very encouraging for SLU fans who also have had very little to cheer about of late.
  16. What are the chances of SLU getting a kid like Bradley Beal out of Chaminade? What kind of recruit is his teammate Brandon Hannah considered? He was hurt and did not play for the football team this year. He was a solid playmaker at wide receiver as a freshman.
  17. Detroit is dick and Tommie single handedly got us back in that game. I would not give the freshmen all the credit for beating BC and playing Detroit tough.
  18. Is Christian Kirk of any relation to Kyle Kirk? I remember watching Kyle Kirk at the Hoop Jam and I thought he was a nice player. He headed to Missouri State, but I think he was ineligible or quit the team or something and I have no idea what happened to him?
  19. Not to bust your chops, but there is no chance KU offered.
  20. Bucket at the buzzer for SIU, SIU leads 24-16 at half.
  21. I now have four tickets available for the Boston College game. The seats are together and in Section 201, Row J. Send me a message if you are interested.
  22. I have two extra tickets to the BC game that I will not be using if anyone is interested. The tickets are in section 201 I believe. Send me a message if you are interested.
  23. I know Michael Roach from my alma mater, Chaminade, headed to Indiana. I looked at their stats and it does not appear that he has played this season so I wonder if he is hurt or something. A couple years back they had another former Red Devil playing for them in Kevin Robson. From my class they had Mike Ambersley from DeSmet who had a nice career for the Hoosiers.
