Wow. I'm amazed at such an optimistic take.
Yes anything can happen and yes I am also excited to see the future of this year's freshmen class. But NEXT year the team being better than this one? That feels like both a super-rosey view of that group's potential and an out-and-out inditement of this year's squad.
If we are lucky, the program will bring back 3 of tonight's starters next season. Realistically it may only be 1. Not to mention also losing the first 3 guys off the bench. And as good as the underclassmen may be, they'll still be inexperienced with Hughes being the only one to maybe get significant minutes when all is said and done this year.
Ford or no Ford, finishing in the top 5-6 of the A10 next year will probably be a successful campaign.
the portal changes everything, hit on the right guys and top of the league becomes possible

Mike Schmidt, who coaches in Siberia, brings out the best in each of his kids and competes for the top four every year. Good coaches conquer adversity.
schmidt .580 in conference, ford .570

in this moron's opinion biggest loss since Ryan Grant broke his leg & way sadder. If he was same player seems unlikely we'd not make the dance. When he has been least productive we'd likely been more if we had some one else in, a catch 22 hindsight wormhole of epic proportions
ryan grant healthy might have kept grawer from being fired

Dennis, you’re not an idiot and a troll, so I’m asking you what do you mean by your post(as oppose to the other person). What do you mean “ I hope you are not trying to confuse the issue with facts”? What facts? That the other coach who majority of the fan base also wants fired is in a similar boat as ford? Linking ford and grant isn’t good for the …. FoRd LoVeRs
one of the posters said he wanted slu to be like dayton, the fact is dayton has not been as good as slu when it comes to ncaa tournaments, as guess i wasnt clear on my point. i also do not think the majority of the fan base wants ford fired, i think it just a handful of mbm's

Respectfully, comparing one serial underachiever to another isn’t the best way to prove your point.
i think his point was nocobill said we ought to be like dayton a team with fewer ncaa appearances than the billikens in recent years

Trivia question for Ford haters, This is Anthony Grants 6th season at Dayton. How many NCAA appearances have they had? Now going by Ford hater standards, just answer the question, not interested in excuses.
I hope you are not trying to confuse the issue with facts

What a joke.
Why is Ford being paid 2,400,000 per year?
If I up my job I get fired. I make less than 5% of what Ford does. He deserves criticism. Your attitude is just sad.
N I T. N I T.
I suppose I could attack your attitude, but I am sure you would not understand

Haslametrics is not infallible, had Duquesne winning at SLU. Sagarin and the betting line both had SLU winning, as did The Wiz and BAB.
if billikens win out and tie with vcu, what is the tie breaker for the 1 seed?

-I was just mentioning you attributing at least one loss to the players, not the coach
-I agree with you that season can't be fully evaluated until it closes but points/discussion should be allowed in the interim
-my expectation was JPerk would be better in January than he was in November, from at least a defensive pov that has not fully materialized
-the great majority of people on here and in the media said in the preseason this was a top 30 team, top 30 teams make the Tourney regardless of the league, if folks had an unrealistic view of JPerk's ability from the start that's on them but we were also told about the unprecedented depth this team has or had
-the season is not over so the final evaluation is yet to be made
my observation is perkins has not recovered from the ankle injury, preseason top 30 was based on him making a solid returen

tbh and I had said this before the season started I didn't think we needed a fully healthy JP to make the Tourney. Yuri until recently haven't updated the numbers, Gibson, Okoro, Jake, and Pickett all had regressed from their numbers last year.
perkins, okoro regression , pickett injury and the loss of thatch have made the tourney bid a tough one, the season is not over yet,

Honest question, do you think we’ve seen Ford’s ceiling then? If not, what do you think is his ceiling?
i hope he takes the billikens to a perennial tournament team, i think he has laid a foundation for that, but it takes time, gonzaga took years to become gonzaga, i dont think he has hit his ceiling yet, starting over would be a questionable a maybe bad move, 20 plus win seasons have not been common historically

I don't think its fully Fords fault that we had so many players regress from last year. But he is in charge, so he is held accountable to some degree for that.
yes he owns his record, but as i have said, evaluate the season after it is over

100%. Rebuild years are a part of college sports. But fourth place should not be your ceiling.
perkins injury is the "big loss" pre injury he was a differene maker

Ya, and that number is incredibly obvious, how ever many is needed to finally get an at large bid
it is tough to get an at large in a mid major conference and you know that, the net is stacked for the big boys, i think expectations for the season are disappointing, but likely they were not realistic

-that doesn't send a glowing message about the players CFord recruited
how many wins is enough? 24 last year wasnt, is there a number that would make the ford detractors happy? 15 teams in the conference and only 1 or 2 will make the tournament, are all the teams bad?

You asked why hasn’t he recognized his faults and hired the kind of coach that he actually hired. When Giacolleti was here Ford leaned on him heavily during games. And the reason we don’t have one now is that they are really hard to find. We got lucky in that Coach G was living in St. Louis.
having an x an o coach sounds like a great idea and it likely has some merit, but the guys you need the most are basketball players, it is hard to blame the x and o guy when the players miss 10 free throws. i.e. auburn when nobody could make an unguarded 15 footer. if perkins didnt have injuries and returned to POY form, ford would look a whole lot better as a coach

Interesting times, isn't it. Dambrot hit it, and Schmidt didn't. And why? Is Dambrot a better coach than Schmidt? I don't think so, they both have decent records.
I refuse to get invested in next year's team, until next year. Many reasons for Collins, Jimerson, Hargrove and Parker to go and good reasons for them to stay. Same with the 4 frosh. Too much will churn to try and figure anything out until it figures itself out. I may be in a minority, but once you have your degree in hand, I would certainly encourage any player to look at as many options as possible.
the days of watching players come in and grow and improve their game over 4 years pretty much over, right now i can only speculate on what the roster might look like next year, so i will just in enjoy the team for this season

Yeah Grant has not taken the Flyers to the NCAA. Of course he has the biggest * out there with his 2019-10 18-2 Flyers who were a likely #1 seed before the tourney got canceled.
A-10 certainly got shorted that year

You guys are the best. Was able to pick up some gear at Rally House. I’ll check out the gift shop at Chaifetz tonight.
It’s my son’s first game, so hoping we go on a run to finish out the season heading into Brooklyn.

Great memories taking my son to Billikens games in the 80’s

Roland added to his game every year, helped the Billikens stay in d-1

I find this interesting. In the last 7 A10 Men's Basketball Tourneys, there have been 7 different winners.
2015 VCU
2016 Saint Joseph's
2017 Rhode Island
2018 Davidson
2019 Saint Louis
2020 No Tourney
2021 St. Bonaventure
2022 Richmond
The team missing is obvious.
off the top of my head i would have thought dayton went to several tournaments, then i looked it up and was very surprised
