That’s very true, in one sense they only thing that’s changed is the big money schools no longer have to pay players via some sketchy guy putting an unmarked envelope full of cash in their hands. SLU has been competing against this for years.

i worked with some former mizzou athletes who told me about the basketball players picking up their envelopes back in the ricky clemons days

but the 60-80 bcs schools are going to pay substantially more particularly to their stars.   thus the inbalance.   they will get most if not all of the top players simply because they can pay more.

they get most of the stars now, they have been paying players for years, not sure it will change the distribution of talent all that much, i agree with you roy, dont really like it

Making a run is a loose term typically used when winning at least a singular game when using that in regards to a tournament. I never said sweet 16.  I never said anything other than winning at least 1 game.   Sounds like you guys would be ok with going winless all season as long as you win your Conf tourney and lose right round.  And you know what, that's fine with me too.  But lets hire Meramec's coach to do that and save the program 2.4m per year.

You mentioned Sweet 16 so I thought that was your Billikens run

Don't be difficult. A "run" is different for every team.  Point is, having a mediocre regular season, but winning your 1 bid conference Tournament, doesn't automatically make our season a success.  If this was a rebuilding year, than yes I would consider this a successful season with those goals matched.

What you're saying sounds more like moving the goal post in favor of Ford in anyway possible.

it seems that a sweet 16 is your level for a billiken"run" or did you move the goal posts?

This is pathetic and just a horrible post full of excuses and rubbish. SLU is paying the coach 2.4 million, we are building a "champions center" with an entire upper floor devoted to providing basketball players with personal chefs and other amenities more reminiscent of a Middle Eastern monarch.

You're satisfied with being above 182? What a joke.

i dont believe that bbf said he was satisfied, he actually said it was disappointing. i believe his point was it is not the disaster that some are painting it as

    A few observations:

    1. Gibby kept shooting even though he missed badly on a few early shots.  He needs to keep that up the rest of this year. I know many are in the camp that Gibby doesn't defend, but I disagree.  His defense has improved considerably.  Plus he disturbs a lot of drives without fouling.

    2. We had significantly more instances of making the extra pass.  Good basketball is contagious.  Let's hope everyone catches it

    3. Another game without fouling a 3pt shooter.  Progress

    4. Definitely a team-wide attempt to get more deflections/steals.  It seems like our hands are much more active on defense.

    5. I think CF will continue to (and should) start Perkins for 2 reasons: a) Perkins has meant so much to the program and may still come around, and b) Parker has gradually assumed the "instant offense" role from the bench.

    6. Parker and Hughes have big upside.

    7. After last night, I'm more optimistic that we can win the A10 tourney.  The whole team will try to reverse the label of "disappointing" and turn this season into something to be remembered.

gibby is a plus defender, one of our best

The interesting aspect to this is that if Ford wants to keep Yuri, but Troy doesn’t, then he’s gone. The committee is in charge of recruiting and retention.

that is assuming the only nil revenue stream is controlled by troy, yuri is already being paid by someone, appears chaifetz has paid him with this pickle ball deal. there are likely others

i am not moving any goal post, you said you had to have a run, define what a run is that would make you satisfied? if contending for an a-10 championship is mediocre i will take it

Tell me you watched the Billikens play in west pine gym without telling me.

Having a below .500 Davidson team look a tad bit uncomfortable when they are playing offense is a start.

When is winning is contingent on Jimerson hitting somewhere between 5-7 threes (some of which look like he is prime Reggie Miller) AND having our opponent miss unguarded wide open looks…it doesn’t meet my expectations. I already know that strategy doesn’t work for VCU, Dayton, Fordham, Boise…or SIUE.

So it’s tough to be content with a Billikens team that has a zero percent chance to make a sweet 16.

what I think Travis will use as an excuse to save his job is Perkins.  It will probably work. He is nowhere near healthy and anyone not familiar with the program watching current games probably wonders why he even plays.  It is such a sad thing to watch.

only 16 teams out of 353 make the sweet 16, so it likely will always be tough for you to be content,

Eh. Even if we win the A10T unless we make a run in the big tournament it’s still considered a mediocre year. 2019 was also a mediocre year. It’s ok to be mediocre and make the tournament, happens all the time.

if a run in the big tournament is the criteria to not be mediocre then the billikens have never had  anything other than mediocre seasons, is a run in the big tournament one win, two or do you have to play in three?

Nobody is saying Travis is the floor or the program. Anyone who jumps to that conclusion lacks reading comprehension. Anyone who is Ok with what we’re seeing—is part of the problem.   We’ve seen the floor (hopefully), but there is a huge difference between what was supposed to the THE YEAR, and this year (so far).  Anything short of a A10 tournament championship and a win in the NCAA (or 2, if they have to play in the first 4) is going to be a disappointment.  This was a 5 point game with 1:30 left.  THAT is unacceptable at home against this particular Davidson team when you’re supposed to be righting the ship.  THAT will not cut it against the team that can take over the fourth spot.

what lead would be acceptable? more than ten? 15 maybe? i think the only score that counts is the final score, is there anything less than a national championship that would make you happy? you need to find a team that will meet your expectations so that you can enjoy basketball

The problem is that he has the mobility of a traffic cone. He can’t get open because what quickness he had is gone. It’s hard to watch.

    I think mediocre is fair.

They haven’t beaten a good team since the non-con and scrape by bad teams.

I love they have the NIL in place.

It looks like Hughes can be a 4 year contributor.
I like the freshman coming in next year but I can’t let that cloud my disappointment about this disaster of a year.

i think fans wanted perkins to be a player of the year candidate and he has not been, fred was a top rotation player and he is out for the year, pickett has had nagging injuries all year, yet the billikens still have a shot at finishing first and likely a double bye. hardly a disaster, disappointment may come from unrealistic expectations of mbms

Ease up on Mike Crawford. Kid averaged double digits his last 2 seasons and turned into a pretty good dunker.

Really not trying to overdo the Pickett criticism… because he played well and was one of the main contributors in the win tonight…  But he played exactly the same way as he’s been playing… head down, (attempt to) bully his way to the rim.  It works well against a team of Matt Neufeld/Tanner Lancona/Mike Crawford clones (was gonna say Brett Jolly, but figured even Davidson didn’t deserve that).   Pickett was stronger and more athletic than everyone on Davidson. That’s when it’s acceptable for him to be more involved offensively… not when we are playing the VCUs and Daytons of the conference.

pickett has been playing hurt for most of conference play, i think last night showed he is getting well, i guess haters will hate. i enjoyed the win go bills

I've been attending SLU games for 32 years. I think i've missed maybe 30 home games during that time.

You truly are the worst poster on this board. You're worse than Metz, and he made terroristic threats.

i have seen some nonsense on this board over the years, but never this level of hate and moronic posts from the newcomers

Let’s keep the half game out of first in perspective.  We still have to go to VCU who currently holds the half game lead and head to head tie breaker.  If Dayton wins tonight we are a game out of first but behind Dayton in 3rd due to the head to head and one more game with them.  If Fordham win their next game and we lose, they are 8-4 and in 4th place ahead of us because of the head to head.  Road wins are tough.  This version of the A10 is unpredictable.  The Dukes seem to be hitting their stride.  We’ve already lost to Umass.  This half-game out of first is at a critical juncture. 5th place and out of the double bye is way too close.  A win tonight is HUGE.

Yes a win is huge, but a loss is not a season ender, Fordham and the bonnies are not likely to run the table so they will most likely to have to have additional losses

So we had Yuri, Pickett, Perkins, Thatch, Kramer, Thames, Parker, Hughes, and Gimerson and you wanted another guard?  Obviously, Kramer and Thatch aren't available and Perkins is a shadow of his former self and we know that now.  What kind of combo guard do you think we could've gotten with this kind of playing time available?  Not a great one.  To those who wonder why we don't a have another forward, Daniel Rivera, the forgotten Billiken was supposed to be here too.  I'm not saying we couldn't use a solid 4 and combo guard but lets be a little bit fair here.....

the ford hatred trumps any sense of fairness or objectivity on this board, heck many cannot even enjoy a win because it wasnt a blowout win, the billikens are a half a game out of first place . what would make these haters happen? i guess being undefeated,

  17. Which teams utilize the 10-13 players in a game? none that i have seen, games are short and winning is most important, noboby plays a bench player that is not as effective as as the top 7 or 8, it justs doesnt happen, players transfer for a lot of different reasons from all teams, slu had benefited from transfers in as much or more than transfers out. lets not let logic stope the ford hate train from rolling
