  1. I think Shimmy is already proving herself to be the best recruiter the school has had in my lifetime.
  2. Dan is not even close to being the best coach in the department. While he is a good recruiter he is not the even the second best recruiter in the department. The top two recruiters in the department are clearly Shimmy and Champion. As for Donnigan overall, his tenure can best be described as a disater. He has taken a program that was a consistent top ten program, that has a soccer history similar to UCLA's in basketball, and turned it into a team that is now not even a tournament qualifier. All while having maybe the best on campus facility in the country. He should have been gone after last season. His tenure at SLU is the soocer version of Matt Dougherty tenure as b-ball coach at UNC.
  3. My family has had our season tickets for over thirty years. I have been going since I was three. We know the deal. Everybody else should too. It's the way it is run now. It the way these places get built. The funny thing is that it is not alot of money to become part of the Billiken Club. You also don't have to have a membership for every ticket you have. I really dont think the are asking too much.
  4. It seems like they are really missing an chance to raise some money here. If they would send an inite to every season ticket holder, it would give them a chance to hit them up for a donation. I know they want to reward those of us that give money, but there are other ways to do that. This would give them a chance to show the skeptics some progress. It would give them a chance to talk to a bunch a Billiken fans when they are feeling good about the program. It would be a chance to raise money at event that is already going, thus no or limited overhead. Between invites and the way they seem to be dealing with this with the media, they are missing some opportunities. I think they are really just blowing it here.
  5. Right on Diddy. I am sick and tired for all of the love on this board all the MVC schools, SIU and MSU in paticular. Im glad that MSU din't make the tournament last year. I am glad that an assistant at SIU has been discovered to be among the guilty at Barton CC. I hope the NCAA wants to take a look at SIU and see if anything else is going on there. People these teams are the enemy. They recruit the same players that we do. They should be hated just as much as Mizzou, if not more.
  6. Hardball, this is something you and I agree on. I think DP's abilty to hit his jumper might be the one of the biggest keys to the season. I believe his inability to hit at all from the outside cost us a NIT bid at the minimum last year. A thing I think might have affected his shot is the speed of the game. It is so much faster at this level than high school. Dwayne was so use to playing the game at such higher speed than his peers in high school. Even though he is one of the faster players that I have ever seen at SLU, I think it took him out of his comfort zone. That along with the size at this level. Some one pointed it out earlier, but it is a point that I think can't be repeated enough. The jump that players traditionally make in their playing level in their junoir season. I think this will really show in his game this year, with his familarity with the play on the d-1 level.
  7. I guess Vtime has not informed Dwayne how Brad was responsible for his problems shooting last year.
  8. Not that far apart? When has SLU ever been to the NCAA tournament 4 out 5 years? Never. When has SLU ever been to the sweet sixteen? Never. That was 92-93 thru 96-97 season. that was pre-Wade. The numbers of wins are skewed because this list begins during the Bob Dukiet era at MU. One of the worst head coaching hires anywhere in the 80s. It then took Kevin O'Neill a couple a years to clean up that mess. Take the first three years out of that list or add the rest of the 80s in it is not even close. Roy and FGWL you are wrong about this.
  9. Roy said, "thanks again to dwayne wade." If it wasn't for Larry Hughes we wouldn't have made the tournament, much less advanced to the second round, in '98. If it wasn't for a freak broken leg we wouldn't have made the tournament in '00. You can't pick and choose what you want for a comparisson. It is not fair to either program. Jst look at the final results. They are not close.
  10. How about the difference in NCAA appeances alone. Roy, they maybe not Duke or NC. But they are closer to those two than we are to them. It all comes down to post season results when you rate teams. Marquette has produce them. We have not. In the compared seasons they have won more NCAA tournament games than we have played. I just don't see how you can say it is even close. Am I the only one seeing the great difference between MU and SLU. It hurts as Bill fan to admit, but it is not even close.
  11. Come on Roy. Not that great a difference. MU 5 years no post season, SLU 9. MU 7 NCAA tournaments, SLU 3. MU 1 sweet 16, SLU 0. MU 1 final four, SLU 0. MU 7 NCCA game wins, SLU 2. In just the time period above MU has been in as many NCAA tournaments as SLU as been in its entire history. MU has won a NCCA championship and has a runnr-up finish in it's history. SLU has never won more than one game in the NCAA tournament. Roy, these two programs are not within miles of each other. They have not been since the early 60's. It is not close and any objective observer would tell you that. I'm telling you this as a true Billiken fan. We all need to be honest with the type of program we have here. Do I think we can catch Marquette, yes. I think we can pass them. But to even act like we are anywhere close to them right now or have been in almost a half century does no one any good. It just feeds the quick fix posters. You know the posters I am talking about. The ones that think Painter built the Purdue program overnight. Cause they had no recent history of success. The ones that think that Marquette never had a winning season before Crean. A false belief of where we are and have been as a program just feeds these people.
  12. Everybody say hi to the new Vtime alias, Omnipotent.
  13. Roy it is not really that close. Here is a list of Marquette's records and post-season appearances from 89-90 to the year the season before D-Wade arrived: MU 89-90 15-14 NIT 90-91 11-18 91-92 16-13 92-93 20-8 NCAA 93-94 24-9 NCAA Sweet 16 94-95 21-12 NIT Runners-up 95-96 23-8 NCAA Second Round 96-97 22-9 NCAA 97-98 22-11 NIT Quarter –finals 98-99 14-15 99-00 15-14 NIT Crean’s first year 00-01 15-14 I think everbody can remember SLU's post season teams. If I need to post the same years for SLU I will.
  14. It's pretty clear that me, Rich, Moytoy, FGWL, Band Legend, Billiphan, and definitly Metz all have a one way ticket to enternal damnation. Oh wait, forgot about V. He got himself in trouble with the false god (Floyd) thing.
  15. You said that Marquette and SLU were at similar places before Wade. They were not and it wasn't even close. They were a top 50 progrem for over 30 years. We have not managed to do that for two. So how is MU a similar program.
  16. All I am saying is you got a poster on saying "rapture baby, rapture." That sure sounds to me like he is saying that those who don't believe as he does are going to get what they have coming. If you think like that maybe you should be hanging out with that 40 virgins in paradise crowd. Your beliefs have more in common with them than they do with what is taught at our favorite Jesuit university.
  17. You keep talking about the program Painter built at Purdue. I got news for you hardball, that program has been a top flight program for years. Painter has built crap. He has helped the program rebound in recruiting, which had slipped for a few years. That led to a few down years a Purdue. You can not compare the Purdue job to the SLU job. You can't even compare the SLU job to the Marquette job. Marqutte's program has been head and shoulders above SLU for the last thirty years. You act like Creen stepped in to a black hole. He didn't. It might have been thirty between final fours, but year in and year out they were a far better program than SLU. If you want to look for programs to compare SLU with you need to start with Gonzaga and George Mason. But, you won't want to do that. You won't see the quick results you want to see. Those two programs stuck with coaches and stuck with systems. Thats not what you want to hear. Yow probaly fired a coach (Grawer) she shouldn't have. She hired a coach (Spoon) that decided a couple years in that he really didn't want to recruit anymore and he resigned a couple years later cause he and the new AD didn't get along. Woolard hires a good coach (Romar) that leaves after three years after being hired cause we were a stepping stone for him. Now we have a coach that wants to be here. Has everything been perfect, no. But, I think the overall plusses outweigh the minusses. Looking back at the last 15 years I think what this program needs most is some stability.
  18. Yeah guys, the Dali Lama is going to burn in hell becuase he hasn't accepted Jesus as his savior. The fact that he lives his life like Jesus preached will not help him at all. Mother Theresa is doomed because she wasn't born again. Never mind that she served the poor and sick that every one else ignored. You know sort of like Jesus did in the bible. But, if you say that Jesus is your savior and are born agian everything is ok. Doesn't matter what else you do. Don't really have to try to follow some of those other rules. To hell with the golden rule. You know the one that Jesus said was the most important. Treating others like you want treated. Wouldn't allow you to look down on people that don't believe exactly the same thing as you do. Save me all the born again BS. I think God it right the first time.
  19. How does anybody know what Painter is telling recruits. SLU has its own share of less than demanding majors. They got Pulley, Melvin Robinson, and Pee Wee , just to name three Rhoades scholars, into the school.
  20. We are no tougher on atheletes then any other school. Pulley flunked out here and he flunked out at Mizzou. The only time academics plays a part at SLU compared to other schools is when it comes to transferring in.
  21. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?...ht&lid=tab1pos2
  22. Roy, I agree with you on what you are saying, except for one thing. When you say "STUDENT" atheletes. Prudue is a really fine academic institution. I think many peoole would say it is better than SLU.
  23. He was oustanding. What a draft year that has turn out to be.
  24. Hardball, it is not even a legitmate question. They were not competing for the SLU job. Brad and Painter's former boss Bruce Weber were, you idiot. If you want ask who would you rather have, make it between choices that were present at the time. Comparing SLU to Purdue shows you have no idea what you are talking about. In the last 25 years Purdue has 2 Elite Eight appearances, 3 additional sweet 16 appearances, 6 Big 10 titles, 14 20-win seasons( including six seasons with 25 or more wins), 17 NCAA appearances, 5 NIT appearances, and had the national coach of the year 6 times. They have an oustanding history going all the way back to John Wooden. Great program to compare SLU to. I hope Purdue has set the expectations high. The results of the past demand nothing less. Before you go handing out blue juice, try knowing what the hell you are talking about. Then maybe you won't look like an ass next time.
