  1. +3. A lot of good young coaches will come here, if we offer them 800K-1M a year, 3 or 4 times what they're currently making. Crews wiped out everything Majerus built in only 2 years, and Crews's stain can be wiped out in only 2 years from now, if we make a good hire. The years of settling for mediocrity ended when we bought out Soderberg and built the arena (I hope).
  2. There will be risk with anyone we hire. But I'd rather have someone like Majerus who won't wow you in recruiting but can really coach up players. That's another good point about money. Don't hire someone who has already made millions. Hire someone whose future career and livelihood depends on winning at SLU. Romar has one of the youngest teams in the country and has a 5 star guard coming in next year, so he will get more time.
  3. +1. Make the right hire, keep Roby, Reynolds, and current frosh, and with the new coach's guys we can be dancing in 2018.
  4. Well said. He's missed the tourney half the time at programs bigger than SLU. What is he going to do here? Romar might be even worse. He's missed the tourney 4 straight years, looking like this will be the 5th straight year. The team that got blown out at Chaifetz had 3 future NBA first round picks (Ross, Wroten, Wilcox). His team got blown out at home by Oakland yesterday. He is an outstanding man off the court, but on the court it's a disaster right now. If you want someone who can recruit but can't coach one bit, Crean, Romar, and Pastner look like good candidates.
  5. Anyone see what set Jolly off? #30 hit a 3 and patted him on the a$$ while running down the court. Was pretty funny. It's gotten to the point where I'm laughing at our own guys.
  6. It's true that they were on probation and the cupboard was totally bare when he got there. But it shouldn't take 3 years of building at Indiana, and the payoff isn't nearly enough. If you ignore the 3 rebuilding years, it's 4 tournament wins in 4 years which is pretty mediocre. Maybe I'm overrating IU as a program but I think they're one of the best in the country, on par with Duke, UNC, Kentucky, etc.
  7. Crean's record at Indiana is an absolute joke. Missing the tournament at a program like that is a terrible year, barely making it is a bad year. So 1 very good year, 1 good year, 1 bad year, and 4 terrible years. 4 NCAA tournament wins in 7 years at a school that recruits itself. If he can barely make the sweet 16 at Indiana, what's he going to do at SLU? Why would a program like SLU want to hire someone who failed at a much bigger program? I'd like to see Crean here, as an assistant on Bryce Drew's staff.
  8. Keep him now, and the team doesn't improve: clean house. Fire him now, someone like Platt takes over, and the team doesn't improve: clean house. Keep him now, and the team improves, probably clean house anyway. Fire him now, someone like Platt takes over, and the team improves. Now what? Give the job to Platt? I don't see any advantage to firing him in mid-season. Why give one of the assistants a chance to look good as the interim coach? Then he can say "Look at what I did after you fired Crews, now you have to give me the full time job." Just wait till the end of the season and clean house.
  9. Bryce Drew (Valpo, 41) Ben Jacobson (N Iowa, 45) Scott Nagy (S Dakota St, 49) King Rice (Monmouth, 47) Scott Cross (UT Arlington, 41) Mitch Henderson (Princeton, 40) Jerod Haase (UAB, 41) Russell Turner (UC Irvine, 45) And a bunch of assistants at various places. The top 2 are probably a pipe dream, as they have definitely received better offers and stayed put. Scott Nagy looks like a good fit. He has ties to the area as an assistant at Illinois and SIU-Edwardsville. But he's been at SDSU for 20 years and has surely received some offers.
  10. They are fouling the out of our guys. In the bonus already with 14 mins left.
  11. It's still very early but it looks tough for them to get an at large bid. They really needed these non-con games to build a resume. If they get healthy and then basically run the table with a loss in the MVC tourney, they'll get the benefit of the doubt and get in. But Kenpom projects a 19-11 regular season record, throw in another loss in the MVC tourney and that's 12 losses and they're out.
  12. For ESPN3 watchers: Reynolds hits another 3
  13. Good to see the 6th man is out in full force. What a joke.
  14. The team is improved but our 3 point defense is still "stand around and hope they miss."
  15. Love this new motion offense. Great cutting and crisp passing for easy looks. 8 point lead with under 4. Put it away.
  16. For all the hate that Jolly gets, Gillmann might be worse. Jolly at least takes up some space in the paint.
