Amazing that in the month and a half since the end of the season, Thames has grown 2 inches and added 20 lbs of muscle. I’d say he’s wasting his time on college basketball. Market that workout program.

Heights were not updated on the SLU roster since the late summer, 2022.

Do you think Ford had any choice in this decision?

First of all, I liked Chris Harriman a lot and was sorry to see him leave a decade ago. Hope all is well with his son. I  think things may have turned out differently if he stuck around when Rick passed.

Question: what you expect Chris to do other than hopefully bring in some top-shelve overseas recruits?  Those that think of us to be the next St Mary's, I don't think so. The problem in the past was not our talent. It was coaching, game planning and player development.

Too bad retired Bob Mckillop not available. He owned Ford.

I disagree.  Talent level was a big problem last year; especially with loss of Thatch and Perkins being a shell of his old self. Also had too many wings, no power or stretch forward and no backup PG.  SURE, had some talent but lacked talent in key areas.

At this rate, Hughes is gonna be playing the 5 next year so we won't even know if he is a better point guard than Yuri.

LOL ... thinking Ford will bring in some good bigs.  Be patient fellow.  Heck, players can enter the transfer portal until May 11th.  Lots of time to bring in impact players.  😄

I see a lot of unknowns. It doesn't mean those guys can't be upgrades, but a lot of unknowns at this point as proven production is really low for most of those guys. I still can't get over the low opinion so many have of Yuri Collins, it is laughable to call Larry Hughes Jr. an upgrade over Yuri at the point when Larry doesn't even play that position.

Time will tell.  If Hughes can handle the ball and see the floor half as well as Collins, Hughes shooting, superior height and better defense could make it a legimate augument IMO.  Collins had some off the chart pluses but he had several obvious negatives IMO.

Well the Dayton AD did not say anything like you just quoted.  He said nobody is happy nor interested in listening to excuses.  Honestly not sure how you don't see that what you say May said can not be deciphered as we had a successful season and we are happy with what our coach accomplished.  I am not making anything up just pointing out how to soothe your anxious fan base in an effective way.  I am still waiting for you explain how what May said and what the Dayton AD said are not different.

There were 2 different questions addressed.  May was affirming that he was sticking with Ford.  He was not answering the question, "Are you happy with how the season ended?"  If asked that, I think he would have said no. You don't always have to change coaches to get to the NCAA's.

Just saw on the main board information about the Dayton AD making an honest assessment of how Dayton's season went.  Basically he is saying close is not enough and the program has to do better.  Contrast with May - we had a successful season and all is well basically.  Which school will reach the Dance first?

That is NOT what May said.

SLU AD Chris May today affirmed his commitment to coach Travis Ford: “Travis has brought a level of talent here that can compete year in and year out, and he’s going to be our coach for a long time.”

When has a "stretch 4" or a big who can shoot the 3 ever made it off the bench during Ford's tenure?

Not meant as an insult to Pryor or Ford, I just don't think that is Ford's style of play. Or maybe the bigs who could shoot under Ford's tenure were just not that great? i.e. Lorrentson, Hankton

I personally really like the idea. They can be every hard to defend against and open up the lane.

I think the bigs who could shoot the 3 (Ellis & Loe) were a huge part of our success during the "Majerus years" (2011-2014). It just helped a decent offensive team be much harder to defend. But unfortunately, Majerus and Ford have very different styles.

Well, tell me if my memory is foggy, but seems a "stretch 4" couldn't have made it off the bench during Ford's tenure ..... there hasn't been one on the roster.

I don’t think Pryor comes in and does anything more than a 6 ppg / 4 rebound average. With that said, he can step out and shoot the 3, he’s a shot blocker, and most of all, an excellent passer. Wouldn’t surprise me if he averages above 2.5 assist a game.

Like many say, bigs sometimes take a few years to develop, especially those "late growers".  From what I can see from highlights (yes, highlights only show the good), this guy, who will be entering his 4th season of college ball, could be a steal.  Damn, been wanting a big true step out 4 for SLU .... probably since Cody Ellis left.

Welcome to the 2023 Myrtle Beach (Mid-Major) Invitational.  While I've never been to the Carolinas and am sure Myrtle Beach is a nice place, read it lies in the middle of a 60 mile long beach, the entire field at this tourney consists of mid-majors (assuming that is what SLU now is).  Nary a Power 5 + 1 is in this exempt tourney.

    This is the new normal.

Over-reaction .... wait to complain until the rest of the OOC is announced.

Wasn't expecting to read that in his graphic either. Wish Momo the best but agree with Gabriel that this is for the best (assuming Ford can land the right transfers). 3 spots to fill now? I assume we are out on Camren Hunter? I'd take him in a heartbeat if we can fill the remaining 2 spots with the right 4 and 5.

Would be nice to get a big PG .....

  11. Great get Coach Ford and staff.  Seems like he is in the mode of Goodwin.  Looks like 2 years to play.

Robert Jennings looks like a good one as well.  He's only 6'7" but looks like a rugged inside player.  Played 30 games as a frosh on a Texas Tech squad that was loaded with experienced 4's and 5's.  So given that, the 8 minutes a game he played this year is impressive.  Looks like he has 3 years of eligibility ...... get'em Coach Ford!

Any positive contribution from Thames, MoMo or Rivera would be a pleasant surprise to me.  They all seem to be on the Ingvi, Lorentsson, Diarra, Kramer, Strickland track

Regarding Rivera, seems he has kept a really low profile.  I know he had an injury early on but does anyone know for sure he is still at SLU?  If so, has he been cleared for basketball activities?  If so, has he been at practices doing basketball activities?  Any information on his status would be appreciated.

Why would Gibson want to come back to such a dysfunctional program, mired in mediocrity, to play for a nitwit coach with one foot in the (professional) grave?

Because Coach Ford took Jimerson from a 3 point spot shooter to an all-conference 3 level scorer and excellent defender.

bring him in might lose momo, 4 bigs on a roster is a lot.

Get him ...... fits fine if SLU uses 2 as centers and 2 as big forwards or stretch 4's.  Sick of seeing teams starting 2 versatile bigs against SLU and overwhelming them with size.

He’s either a great recruit and terrible coach or average at both. I think it’s the latter, but open to discussion.

LOL.  Thought this thread was discuss transfers, not the coach of the Billikens for next year, and hopefully longer ..... Travis Ford.

we can hope cisse makes a step up his second year

In his limited action, Cisse looked like he is in need of a lot of development.  Ready for big minutes next year ..... don't see it but you can always hope.

HoosierPal...Why would one waste their time debating with Chris May when that person thought he screwed up both of his HC decisions. He was waaaaay to lazy to hire a replacement for Rick Majerus. He promoted Jim Crews who was on auto-pilot the entire time he was on the bench at SLU. Yes, he did take Rick's players to the NCAA's twice, but Majerus left him that anyone with coaching experience could have done that. What Crews did not do was telling...he did ZERO to build on what Rick left him so then May cans him after 2 bad years,

I was NEVER down with the Travis Ford hire. Why? I knew what he had done early in his career including the stint at UMASS. Then I looked closely what he did at his 8 years at OSU.  In 8 years he made 5 NCAA Tourney's and one NIT. He never won the Big 12. He won a total of 1 NCAA games and that was his 1st year. Pretty certain because he was recruiting to a Big 12 his talent was much better than any place else he's coached. He did recruit Marcus Smart to OSU. So IMHO he had enough talent to have won 1 friggin NCAA game. Count me as someone who may recognize talent. Gee I don't see that as a huge quality. His problem is being able to coach up the talent. Still is at SLU. One thing to get talent a whole different one to coach them to a cohesive winning team. So IMHO and I know we'll not agree Chris May reached and failed SLU fans a 2nd time.

While I know I won't change anyones mind on Ford thet like him. I thought I'd lay out why I think we are kicking the can down one more year in keeping him. If he fails next year I'm not wanting Chris May to make another dumb HC hire. IMHO he's 0 for 2 now!

"He never won the Big 12" ....... Well damn, that means squat.  KU has won 17 of the last 20, don't think any Big 12 coach was doing that either!!!!!

I agree. I would like to see four bigs on the roster. Within the group - at least one high level shot-bloacker and a stretch big, which would allow you to play two bigs at the same time in certain match-ups. Also a reliable low post scorer and a good passer in the group. The 4th big should be a freshman for developmental purposes.

I would very much love to see SLU start 2 bigs ..... big center and a stretch 4.
