  1. Agreed. It sounds like they're initiating a full-fledged search. Apparently this is the same search firm Mizzou used in retaining Anderson.
  2. Cusamano mentioned a 4 person committee (if he mentioned who's on it, I didn't catch it). He also said SLU has retained a search firm out of Dallas that has worked with 50 different universities in their coaching searches.
  3. At least Thorpe is sticking around for now (based on the statement on SLU's website).
  4. Ha. Maybe we should bring in J.A. Baines to coach.
  5. Again, no endorsement of accuracy of this info (and who knows his sources given that it sounds like other members of the media have been given no access). "Update at 3:05 p.m. I am told they prefer someone with successful head-coach experience... I am also told that there is a push for Pete Gillen at least from one big player in this on the SLU board... so keep that in mind as you read through this list which I put together earlier today,.. "
  6. More Bernie (sorry to just cut and paste here, but his comments are interesting (if not always 100% accurate)). Interesting that he mentions possibility of Liddell leaving. I honestly don't see that happeneing. "It's all Biondi. Levick has to hire the next coach. Best of luck on that one. Just put in a call to Cuonzo Martin and make it easy on everybody. He'd energize the program and recruit like a maniac in Missouri and Illinois and maybe even Indiana because of his Purdue connection. I'm not saying he's the only candidate or that they're wrong if they hire someone else; I'm just saying I think most people would agree he makes a lot of sense. And let me add this: if they hire Martin, Liddell stays. --B"
  7. Same thread: This firing was all Biondi. --B
  8. And that they don't have anyone lined up (given the speculation on here). I have to wonder how he knows that though given Mike Smith's later post in that same thread that neither Biondi or Levick have been available for comment.
  9. Interesting that he says "no chance" on Montgomery.
  10. I noticed that too, but I guess I wouldn't read too much into it. I read it more as a statement that the successful candidate for the open head coaching position will be committed to winning but also to running a clean program that also emphasizes academics.
  11. Yep, you are right - it's hard not to speculate though. Especially given the odd timing. All we can do is hope this works out for the best. Sounds like we have a couple of SAEs on this board.
  12. FutureBilliken made a good point in another thread that maybe Thorpe was installed on an "interim" basis in order to preserve relationships with our current signees. It's possible (though who knows) that they could do that while simultaneously bringing in someone new on an expedited basis.
  13. Fair point, but you'd think the AD would know if someone was coming on board. Especially if it's someone like Montgomery, given that some have mentioned Levick's ties to him on here. My guess is the search will take longer than a few days. Phi alpha, by the way.
  14. I have a feeling this is going to take longer than a few days.
  15. If the announcement of a big name coach is imminent, why indicate that Thorpe is taking over on an interim basis? Just raising the question.
  16. Brian- Just curious how the post has changed - I didn't pick up on that. Thanks.
  17. Cusumano just commented that, given the timing of the fire, that it almost seems like a big booster or two refused to give money to the program unless Sodeberg was let go immediately.
  18. I gotta say, given that Levick is the AD, it's hard not to believe she was involved. However, at the same time, the SLU press release is a little weird - includes no quotes/statements from Levick and it's written from the perspective of the University/institution (e.g. "Institution decides to change leadership in the men's basketball program."). You get the impression this decision could have come from higher up. When a coach gets fired, you'd think the AD would have something to say about it.
  19. Relphorde's officially on board according to the Post.
  20. The post updated its earlier story regarding Mitchell. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...A8?OpenDocument
  21. No problem. The report definitely implies it, so I guess there are some NCAA rules being violated.
  22. Read my post - I specifically said that Beasley did not say it himself but that the article implies that he is being recruited. That's it. I was just simply trying to clarify your post which simply posted a link and said "He did not say that".
  23. Granted Beasley himself may not have said he is currently being recruited, but the second link you posted seems to indicate he is: "So tired of all the recruiting phone calls and text messages, USA forward Michael Beasley (Notre Dame Prep of Maryland) turned off his cell phone Friday night. 'It's still turned off,' the Kansas State-bound Beasley said after Saturday's 100-80 victory over the World in the Nike Hoop Summit at FedExForum."
  24. I agree with you that there are probably only so many schools that have athletic depts that turn a profit, though I really don't know. I think most top academic institutions, regardless of the fact that they may technically be considered "non-profit", are profit generating machines. The fact that they are some of the biggest institutional investors out there goes to prove that.
  25. "Higher ed. is non-profit." Do you really think that's the case (I'm really asking - please don't read any sarcasm into my question)?
