  1. It was a situation that he felt he couldn't pass up. The chance to go to a school that works out and aids in the development of some of the top players in the game today. It is also a first rate education and an opportunity to play against better talent year around. He will have quality coaches working with him to develop his game but it will also give him the opportunity to live away from home in a controlled environment so college won't be such a shock for him. This is going to be an excellent opportunity for him as far as basktball and academics are concerned. I am also willing to bet that he will have the opportunity to attend an ACC, SEC or Big East school when all is said and done.
  2. Maybe he was here for an unofficial visit. But he will more than likely choose between SLU and Dayton.
  3. The local press was present for Pullen's official visit. They just were not there to write an article about it.
  4. ...during the Hoosier Shootout. So he got to chill in the stands talk to the kids after the games go to team meals with everyone and mingle with the other parents in attendance. It might be to the point now where the kids take Brad's presence at the games for granted, because they know he is going to be there. You know like a nice constant to help a kid through the trying transitional time in life that college can be.
  5. Jared Swopshire was offered by the Billikens. Jared is probably 6'7" on his way to 6'9". He is long tough and aggressive around the basket. He does have a tendancy to be too smooth for his own good but he does get it done. Jared, Scott Suggs, John Brandenburg and Sean Rakers were the most consistent players for the Eagles at the Peach Jam. With Jared dominating inside with a couple of jumpers every now and then, Suggs just getting it done on both ends of the court he is just good very good, Brandenburg consistently scored the first points for the Eagles in every game (#1 first 5 #2 first 10 of 12 #3 first 6) and Sean Rakers rebounded like nobodies business and had three monster dunks during the tournament. Those guys along with Drew Hanlen, Josh McCoy, Andre Martin, Ron Waller, Zach Redel, Isaiah Simelton, and Courtney Belger led the Eagles to a solid 2-1 record in the first ever Sweet 16 Tournament at the Peach Jam. One other note in addition to Brad Soderberg and Angres Thorpe, Roy Williams, Lorenzo Romar, Bill Self, Bruce Webber, Billy Donovan, Ben Miller, Lute Olsen and countless more coaches were in the gym during the Eagles' games.
  6. >John Branenberg has a sister who is going to SLU on a soccer >scholarship. She was named a first team post dispatch >etc.... and is headed to SLU. Perhaps we have a better >chance than we realize. THAT IS NOT HIS SISTER!!!!
  7. I watched him workout on Sunday. He is strong and athletic, very athletic. He is raw but he could fill the void of the athletic big man that SLU needs. He can run the floor and he can shoot it to ten feet or so, but his shot needs work. He tried to dunk on Brandenburg but Brandenburg caught it at the top of the jump (by the way Brandenburg almost dunked on Ian, but Ian did get him a couple of times), but then Horace got a dunk on Brandenburg later on in the scrimmage. He is just what the doctor ordered for the Bills and I hope we land him.
  8. The SLU recruits did not show up. I know Knollmeyer had a prior commitment but I am not sure why Dustin did not show up. Actually most of the people knew the SLU guys wouldn't be there about a week ago.
  9. What do you base your opinion on?
  10. It is funny that you mention both Travis and Brandenburg because I talked with both of them today and asked them which camp they thought was better and they both said the Jamboree was much better in every way. And that is coming from two kids who were highly though of coming out of the adidas Top Ten Camp.
  11. Ian is not leaving, nor does he have any problems with Coach Soderberg. Furthermore each year he has stayed in college the contract offers in Greece have gone up. He is receiving no pressure from his family to stay home and SLU is not interested in Alex, according to Alex that is. So just let it go, Ian will be back and he will be better. I have no clue where Bernie got his information but, for once, he couldn't be farther from the truth.
  12. Washington was on him first. He doesn't have an offer from Kansas yet, but he does have an offer from Illinois.
  13. Actually I don't see how it makes sense for the two schools to play. Why doesn't it make sense for SLU to play MO State and/or SEMO every year, two teams that could beat them and two teams that are at opposite ends of the mid major spectrum. I would place SLU toward the low end of the mid major spectrum, so it would make more sense for SLU to play those guys. Well in my opinion it does.
  14. I was reading a thread where people were getting all lathered up about Mizzou not playing SLU and then going off and talking negative about Mizzou fans. Then someone brought up a list of rivalries. since I have been a Mizzou fan all of my life I can tell you all about great MU/KU games and Illinois/Mizzou games. Some of my best friends played basketball at SLU and they tell me some of their stories of great games of the past and various run-ins with all kinds of players and coaches. But the one thing I have not picked up on is who is SLU's rival. I have talked to ex players, current players, and even players SLU is recruiting and none of them could tell me who SLU's big rival is. So I have two questions: 1. Who is SLU's rival? 2. Why does everyone on this board complain so much about Mizzou not playing SLU?
  15. He just picked up an offer from Kansas. Hopefully us being there early and having a good season helps us land him.
  16. >Some of the "must offer Brandenburg group" are missing one >of the key points being made by 3-star and Thicks-just maybe >Brandenburg isn't as good as most of you are assuming him to >be. How many of you have seen him play? His stats >certainly are not great for someone many are "sure" is an >ACC-quality recruit. Just being 6' 10" doesn't make you a >Duke recruit. His teammate last year at DeSmet is 6' 11"-7' >0" Kowal) and started for DeSmet yet no one on this Board >said we had to offer. > >I have watched Brandenburg play 3 times and, at this point, >I don't see him as ACC quality. Maybe Brad wants to see if >he develops beyond where he is currently. If he was as good >as some of you believe, he would have some top-level school >offers by now. I have watched Brandenburg play over 20 times and I have watched him practice over the last few years as well. I have watched Brett Thompson play over ten times and I have watched him practice as well. John is the better player. The other point is no one has said he is an ACC quality recruit, even though I am sure he is on his way to receiving an offer from an ACC school. But this is just getting goofy, so here is the deal. I know the real reason SLU hasn't offered John and it all centers around lack of opportunity. They have not been able to get in touch with him through the same channels they are using to get in touch with other players and that is the bottom line.
  17. It varies some people he offers when on an unofficial visit and some he offers over the phone. He offered Brett Thompson over the phone. Other kids he offered during unofficial visits. Last year he called Dustin Maguire when he got back to town from Houston and offered him. So it definitely varies?
  18. You guys are all driving me crazy. Brandenburg said he wants to play for an ACC school. What kid does not want to play for UNC or Duke? He does not have any ACC offers and actually two of the three offers he has on the table are from schools that are better than SLU, Southern Illinois and MO State. Since those two schools are better should we not go after any other kid that may have high major dreams but mid major offers? The point is there are a few kids in St. Louis you have to offer and Brandenburg is one of them. Furthermore if you hope to get Griffey you are going to need to get someone ahead of him for him to play with. Griffey has it easy, all he has to do is sitback and figure out where everybody in '08 goes and then make his decision.
  19. You must be outside of your mind if you think Jesse is a point guard and furthermore that he would play the point over Suggs or Soderberg. Jesse is a small forward.
  20. I have grown to like SLU a lot. I like the coaches, I really like the players and I like the people associated with the program. I just have no idea how the Coach chooses whom he wants to offer or not offer, it is the most confusing thing in the world. Of all of the younger kids he has offered I found out because they have all played for me at some point over the past couple of years. I say that to say they have not offered Tyus, and I talked to someone who saw him in Fort Wayne and he said he hasn't given SLU much thought lately, just focusing on school and playing ball. That sounds like a polite I am not really interested in SLU statement, hopefully I am wrong. SLU needs to get at least one kid someone else wants. That one big time player a lot of other people want. True they have Liddell but they need to keep building around him and Lisch, but I just don't see it happening.
  21. There are three and a half Fort Zumwalts, which one are you talking about?
  22. Brandenburg is '08 and I think SLU should have offered him already too.
  23. Abel stopped coming to practice a long time ago and said his high school coach is putting together a team that he would rather Abel play on. He would have helped us out a lot, but he went with his coach's recommendation. At least that is what he told me.
  24. Whenever Kramer's games are over he has to walk outside of the gym. He can talk to people and player's associated with the game but that is about it. Those are what as referred to as free looks because they do not count againt the 130. Now if AT, Grunk, or Jamal were to go with him that would count against the number.
