  1. >Would an oppertunity be different than an opportunity? Just >curious. I guess it just depends on who reads it!!
  2. >Well, I guess AB's fling in the business world didn't go to >well for him. Good luck to him, hope he develops some talent >and sends it our way. Soldan International? Pretty >impressive name for a high school. As I posted when Beane was asked to resign. He had no other buisness oppertunity. If you like you can go back and check the archives, he never had another oppertunity. I am glad he got something. This was a spin job when he was let go.
  3. I don't think my post was over the top. They played a man down half the game. Dan is the best coach and recruiter in the department. Thirdly, the non conference schedule is very tough and the team play's a lot of young guy's. Lastly, barring a major set back, we will win the conference and make the NCAA's. When you make the tournament anything can happen.
  4. >You just posted a very postive message about the soccer >coach and soccer team after they suffered a terrible--some >would say humiliating-- loss at home. You support the coach >and the team. You do that because that is what fans do >--they support the team and the coach even in difficult >times. > >Yet you constantly post negative swill about the basketball >coaches, the teams and the school. What is the deal? Why rip >our young energetic woman's basketball coach? She has told >me personally that she is excited about the potential for a >good competitive team at SLU and that she would love to >build her own program. I believe her but you, who know >nothing, tell lies about her. This board makes me more >disgusted every day. Do you know how to read????? I never ripped her or lied about her. You could use a quick course on reading comprehension. You dumbass, I pointed out the obvious. Any coach in there right mind would do exactly what I said. Seems like you know nothing. Do you really think a coach is going to come out to people and say that she is trying to get good fast to move on. Get a clue!!!
  5. >IMO he should've been gone already. The requisite excuse of >his players leaving early for the pros doesn't explain his >lack of any game planning. Not making the tourney this year >could be a deathknell for the program. Unfortunately the >team is not as talented as we were led to believe, losing >our next 4 games is a very real possibility. Even with a >poor showing in the non con SLU should still contend for the >A-10 championship. That is not nearly good enough though, >we should be contending for NCAA titles. Dan is the best coach and recruiter in the department. For some reason he put together a brutal non conference schedule. The point is to make the Ncaa's and then see what happends. He has a lot of young guy's out there. They will be fine!
  6. >>I do not hink Shimmy will be >>around too long if she get good results. > > >I disagree with you. Shimmy is building something at SLU and >I don't think that she's going to just get up and walk away >from it to go to a bigger/more noteworthy school. The >impression that I get from her is that she wants to make SLU >and the Billikens a place high school basketball players >HOPE to play for. I think that is wishful thinking. No coach in their right mind will stay at a mid major and pass on a big time school. That is a career killer. From what I have seen and heard from her she will be hear no longer than 5 years.
  7. > maybe so ... but all you people who claim to have inside >info ... why would anyone believe you ... please something >other than because I say so, and I relly, really mean it. > > Like I said ... it may be right, personally, I just tend >not to believe negative things people write without some >sort of verification or that person having a track record of >being right. > > Does that not make sense. > > Thanks for responding in a civil tone ... > > > Official Billikens.com sponsor of H >Waldman Skip, I don't claim to have inside info, I DO have inside info. Go back and look at all the posts I have made with department information. All turned out to be true!!!
  8. > so you say? Let's drop it ... my point is you could be >anyone making that claim ... maybe you are who you say you >are and are right ... but 95% of the time a new poster makes >a claim to have inside info ... they are full of crap. We >don't really know ... you think what you want and until >there is verifiable evidence ... I'll keep my blue glasses >on > > > Official Billikens.com sponsor of H >Waldman Skip, your BLUE glasses are on all the time. The facts are Sloan was basically fired by UB. Sloan is a well liked guy in the deparment, so it looks like he is getting a second chance to go in a new direction.
  9. >Why would an employer reward one of its employees with a >critical new assignment if that same employee (supposedly) >failed at his previous low level assignment. > >Levick's announcement stated that Sloan would participate in >all aspects of administration,..... including contract >negotiation,.... and the 2006 NCAA Men Soccer Final Four, >which will be held on SLU's campus in early December. Sure >sounds like the kind of responsibilty you would want to give >a poor performer.....right on!!! > >This board leads the A-10 in moron posters! You seem to be the moron. Sloan was basically fired. Get your fact's straight!!
  10. >After waiting a life-time for SLU to have its own on-campus >arena, what the hell is two more years! Fr. Biondi said he >was going to have an on-campus arena built and it's going to >happen, he's keeping his commitment. > >Life doesn't run on a perfect time schedule. > >Perhaps, if all of us SLU grads and boosters would have >donated at a higher rate.....we would be playing in the new >house this season. We didn't, so we patiently wait. Every time you post you sound like a drum beater for SLU. Sometimes not drinking the koolaide all the time is good for a person.
  11. >any word on who is buying the naming rights for the arena? CLASSIC MORTGAGE!!!!!!!
  12. I can see the same old ###### are at it again. But according to Roy everything in the world is going great so that shows you what a dumbass he is. Alumni, Rich, roy and Skip are your poster boys for back pedaling.
  13. >Kosha is a great guy, despite being a little disorganized >sometimes. Glad to have him back. There's no way that >volfan and billsboys can spin this one. You are pathetic since you are a person that will never be a head coach and I am sure there are some people I know in the department that would be pissed your on this board.
  14. Dmeno, you are 100% correct! All the points you made were right on the money. The only other problem you would have is that the operating budgets are way behind along with the scholarship money. Along with that you would need more money for coaches salaries to improve the staff. Other than 2-3 coaches in the department, you would need more money to attract good coaches to enable a sport to recriut correctly. You can have all the scholarship money in the world, but if you don't have an aggressive coach that knows how to recruit you will have a bunch of scholarships taken with DIII talent. There is a reason SLU hires young coaches with limited backgrounds. The reason is the salaries are laughable for most sports at SLU. If you want to make a true commitment you would need the full package. 1. more operational money in every budget 2. better coaches salaries, "new coaches in the department" 3. scholarships
  15. Roy, it goes much deeper than the top 50. I know several college programs that are in the 80's and 90's and non BCS conferences where football generates a ton of money for the athletic program. Yes it does cost a ton of money to play football but people who back football usually do with deep pockets. Football is KING!
  16. Good points!! That's the biggest obstacle most sports at SLU face. Outside M/W soccer and bball, and volleyball, funding is terrible. Even in the more supported sports, budjets are not compareable to other schools. That's why when a coach does have success at SLU he is looking for a better situation. You must remember Football runs college athletics. A lot of football programs finance a majority of the athletic departments around the country. That's why when people on this board refer to SLU being big time because of this arena it is so far fetched. As long as SLU does not play football in a good conferece they will always be behind the 8 ball. I think the arena will help with recruiting and other aspects but if people out there think this arena is going to solve most of the problems this depatment has, they will be sadly dissappointed. My advice for people that are interested in funding a certain sport is to call the coach directly and ask them how to go about doing it. When you give to the billiken club and other fundraising activities, the funds are dispursed throughout the whole department. When I was coaching, I set up accounts in which donors could give money and that would go directly to my program. I believe SLU is the same way.
  17. >The basketball team is the primary concern of posters on >this board. I've been very, very close to the athletic >department since 2001, though not as close as I was until >2005, to answer your question you gave me no chance to >answer before. > >How many people are upset that Pizzoti, a 10-year losing >coach of the women's team, got the ax for a far superior >coach (and recruiter)? It's the same with the softball >coach, too. I'm sorry that people around there are upset. >Maybe they're not pleased that they finally have to work >hard and show some results. > >Are you really a former D1 player and coach? What sport? >Was it at SLU? Are you in the athletic department now? I'm >just curious as to what makes you so sure about this "low >morale" and what has made you so negative about everything. >It sounds like you just have a couple loose connections with >the wrong people. I don't know why you keep bringing up Jill. Everyone knew she was a joke. She is not the point here. The point here is that the athletic department is made up of several coaches, staff, and other people that are not happy with things that are going on. When morale of the department is at a low, then the person that has to take responsibility is the person who is in charge. No one is saying that expectations to win should not be employed but I think that other issues such as fundraising, have got her out of touch with her staff.
  18. >Don't listen to Billsboys- whatever personal beef he has >with Cheryl is not a reflection of the Athletic Department >as a whole. > >The men's basketball staff was elated to have her, as was >the sports information department and the marketing >department. Those who were afraid were the Doug Woolard and >Lori Flanagan cronies who were too comfortable (Pizzoti's >staff is a prime example). > >The AD is moving in a great direction- if that means certain >people have to go to make good things happen, then that's >life. If people like Spencer get a good offer and choose to >leave, that's also how it goes. Cheryl's mission wasn't to >come in and clean house, but I think she didn't realize >exactly what kind of shape the AD offices and staff were in. > Whatever necessary moves she makes to improve the >department make sense. It's the way every organization >should function. Your the joke. How long have you been around?? That's what I thought. The Athletic department is made up of more than the basketball team. What I have said is 100% true. I don't think people I have known for a long time would lie, plus some of the people that are bitching have come on board during Cheryl's reign.
  19. >i agree, you should go get a new job if you are miserable. >your attitude likely rubs off on those around you. I think it's important to remember that when you are the leader of the department, it is your responsibility to set the tone for your department. You can't fire everyone in the department. I think we will get a good idea of what CL is about when all the coaches and staff she hired starts leaving and starts the bad mouthing. I know several people at Santa Clara that were thrilled when she left there and so far I have heard some of her new appointee's " hired within the last 2 years" that things were not what they expected.
  20. After speaking with several people in the department the last few day's, it seems like there is an all time low morale level around west pine. What the problem is I will not speculate, but I do know it was really embarrasing that Mark Spencer quit to go to Oregon State. It was embarrasing due to the fact he was promoted to a new level in the department 2 weeks ago and now he is gone. I have found through my experiences that low department morale will carry over to the playing field and to the student athletes themselves. I hope things can turn around before school starts, but something does need to change.
  21. Reading all these posts have me puzzled. These 2 were not fired. They both accepted jobs at better schools. I think the big deal is that Spencer was just promoted and that blindsided CL. I know she is really pissed because they just promoted him a week or so ago and it looks bad to promote someone and hear they are leaving 2 weeks later for a different school.
  22. >the naming of the court coincides with the before listed >expense for the gym floor. i was wondering how in the world >that expense made sense as a new gym floor would have cost a >hell of a lot more. but to paint irons court on the floor >wouldnt. > >this dr amy was tremendously interesting and i hope she can >back up the stuff she alleged because otherwise she is in >for one hell of a lawsuit. > >besides the assault and the self naming not approved gym >floor, my favorite was when irons was principal, he used to >declare that the students could wear out of dress code on >each friday assuming they paid a dollar on the entrance to >the school to floyd. at 900 students and ever week, floyd >was grossing about $45k a year in tax free cash! Sounds like the goverment giving no bid contacts out for the illegal Iraq war.
  23. >The transformation of the campus since my days in the second >half of the 60's is just unbelievable. Like a dream, >really. I think Fr. Biondi's contribution goes far beyond >the physical plant. It appears to me that he has applied >the same confidence to the management of every aspect of the >university. He has gotten the job done. Some on this board >question his commitment to SLU athletics, and I think they >are wrong. He has put athletics in its proper priority >relative to all other needs in the university but he >obviously believes it to be very important and has vastly >improved facilities and budgets. > > > >That's all great to pat each other on the back, but when you bring up athletics, our department is incredibly behind. When you ask Head Coaches to pay for their own cell phones,it is like operating with a 1970's mentality. Still a long way to go.
  24. >That's what I thought. I don't kow why roy is pretending >this is new info, if he "broke" the story a year ago. Because Roy is an ###### to a few posters he does not like.
  25. >every top head coach has a star(s) assistant coaches that >are really nothing more than lead salesmen. however in most >cases the head coach still has to close the deal. again, if >you think that the head coach has to initiate, court and >close every single recruit, then why does any staff have >assitants out recruiting? so if beane or randall were the >ones who discovered ian, great, that's their job. but it >was coach soderberg that got him to sign the paperwork. You speak with such authority. Thank's for the laugh.
