  1. David, good points. I think guys like Bernie immediately compare us to teams like Mizzou, as most of the media sees them as the hometown team. I can't remember, but where was their criticism of Mizzou during the Norm Stewart days. Maybe it was there, but I can recall so many times when our media thought Stewart was next to God. But, overall I think Stewart was way overrated and he ran a corrupt program.
  2. Nice post, Bonwich. I agree with you. You have to remember though, that if 10 things are written and 9 are positive and 1 is negative, people will attack the 1 negative. It's what makes things like this board flourish. When I look at what Bernie wrote, the only thing I questioned was his comment about MVC creating more natural rivalries. I don't know exactly what he means, but I think the rivalries in the A-10 will be good. Personally, I could give a s#it abot soccer anyway and agree with your comment about no schools switching conferences because of soccer. The minute that happens, I'd give up completely. As far as Brad given the right resources, Bernie is questioning that, and I agree with him on that. I question that too. The other thing I think that gets people upset is that overall the St. Louis media is awful when it comes to covering SLU. If it's not lack of coverage or importance, it's lack of informative reporting.
  3. I wasn't aware I was feuding with anybody as of yet. I doubt I ever will be. If you call my converation with Thicks a feud, then this board hasn't see any excitement. I can't comment on the others as I probably wasn't around to see it.
  4. would you like me to share some quotes and you can tell me whether or not Roy was joking? BTW, you look foolish - no way, thicks, you're too smooth.
  5. great thicks, appreciate your opinion. really means a lot to me. you ought to read everything before you continue to speak. are you done now? I don't think Roy needs his hand held anymore, especially from you. He seems to do okay on his own. You know what is curious is that you made your original comment because you acted like my comment was waste to this thread and this board (which it wasn't) and yet you continue to respond to all of it. Amazing. Keep responding, you'll continue to look foolish for your original comment.
  6. Thicks, no you are not confusing me with somebody else. I did make the starched boxers comment. I didn't make it for no reason. I made it because of his reply to a most I made where I was joking. The whole idea of that post, was to say - I WAS FIRED UP about the game that night and the start of the reason. Roy picked it apart and took offense to thing I said in that. I was ready to blast Roy in return point by point and decided against that because there was no point as I was joking around. I did however want to convey to him that I think he seemed uptight, but realizing things are taken wrong here as it's only words and since there is no body language or voice inflection that is showing, it's hard to judge how somebody is really coming across. (Hmmm, seems like that's what you just did!) So, I decided to make a lighthearted comment kidding around which is consistent with a lot of my other comments. My point in that was conveying what I thought without being too harsh. If you are Roy think that was too harsh, then you got a tough road ahead of you. As far as my six pack comment, that was what it was. After reading Roy's posts, I would have never pegged him for a guy to stop and buy beer when he was angry. I would of thought Roy was a Brnady guy or a wine guy. That's all. If anything, that should be a compliment. Thicks, if you feel "you should be able to comment like anybody else", then why are you getting on me for commenting about something, especially something you took wrong. Sorry, if you don't appreciate my thoughts on you acting like a moderator. My thoughts are my thoughts and "like anyone else", I am entitled to them.
  7. Thicks, are you kidding me?????? Attack Roy????? What in the hell did I say? That was a negative comment directed at the media. That is truly one way to win - quit listening to their shows. Does that not seem easy enough? I was making a statement. I wasn't being smug and I wasn't being sarcastic. I was making a statement. Please don't fuel the fire. I have never attacked anybody on this board. I can't even think of a time where I reacted even harshly to somebody attacking me. If I had, I didn't realize it, but from day one I have injected humor and lightheartedness to my posts. If somebody wants to take that wrong, they need to lighten up as my intentions were never meant to be harmful. And, I don't appreciate you playing moderator, because it is situations just like this where somebody took something wrong - and unfortunately, it was a third party! Reread all the thread, if you feel like playing moderator and want to end "attacks", then you should direct that where it is warranted.
  8. Another 105er here. About 5-6 rows beind Billiken bench
  9. there is one way to win - quit listening to their shows when they are on - seems easy enough
  10. Roy, you bought a six pack of beer? I would have never thought. I hope it helped.
  11. Okay, I've never claimed to be an intellect, but I just can't keep up with you guys. I am on the road one day and I get back and there are lots of new threads!!! That's a good thing, I just can't keep up! Go Bills!
  12. I just got back from the Steak Dinner in St. Charles. I think it's great the Athletic Department puts this on. I am really just a men's basketball fan and don't follow a lot of the other sports, but it's nice hearing about the positive things about all the teams and we really have a lot to be proud about. Doug Woolard was supposed to speak, but didn't show up till it was over, so not a lot to report on that end. Chris Sloan was with Coach Brad. Chris is from the area, so he probably felt at home. Bob Ramsey led the night and did all the introductions. Coach talked about recruiting and he is extremely high on this incoming recruiting class. He stated how he couldn't violate the NCAA's rules and talk about the recruits, but you just feel his excitment about this class coming in. He also talked about recruiting in general and the importance of recruiting here at home. He also said that that will really recruit hard at home, but they will go anywhere if they can't get the local recruits. He stressed that they will go anywhere in the world as we have seen already. Coach Brad also said the two words that I love hearing in a sentence - National Championship! I said it before, you have to have that vision and think like that to be successful. Coach knows that it may take time and you don't get there over night, but I love hearing him even say that. A lot of coaches don't think that way as bad as that sounds. Coach referred to National Championship when he was referring to the upcoming recruiting class and mentioned it in terms of work ethic and developing into hard working seniors like Chris Sloan. Someone asked about his recruiting in Chicago and asked if former player Q Dillard would be an asset in Chicago since now he coached there. Coach said has been in his office several times already talking and that Q has personal ties to just about every high school coach in Chicago. As far as the conference goes, you know only a limited amount was said. Coach talked about having three options with staying in CUSA, the A10, and the MVC. He didn't say too much other than we haven't been given an invitation to the MVC or A10 as of yet - as we all know. Bob Ramsey asked him if we did go to the A10, would he make it a priority to recruit out east - he said he would and then got into the whole we will go anywhere we have to. I talked to Bob Ramsey after and he said he doesn't see the A-10 rushing to make any decisions or extend any invitations too quickly. He basically was saying how they don't have to be in a hurry to do it. Coach talked about the game Monday and like we've all said, believes we can fix the turnovers. Okay, I'm tired of typing. So, basically nothing enlightening or earth shaking to report. Not that all expected that though.
  13. It was John Duff. Orlando was friends with one of my roomamtes back in college, so I got to experience "The Big O" first hand. I think we all of 5'2". I've got some funny stories about him.
  14. he was another one that just didn't work out...he grew up in Owensboro, Kentucky and was a great player in high school. I think he was relatively highly regarded coming into SLU. He was quick and could move the ball well. I think he played on the Kevin Footes, Carlos Skinner, Melvin Robinson team. Travis Tadysak and Jeff Gaona were also on that team if I remember correctly.
  15. I think you'll see that there is a lot of optimism here for the men's basketball teamn here. Women's basketball - oh, that's right we have a team. Just like the soccer team, I hope they do well, but I can't say I'd follow it enough to know.
  16. I agree, nice letter by Roy. But, I wouldn't reccommend that anyone research this board when looking for factual information either. As this board reflects opinion, there are a lot of inconsistencies and if any writer wrote based upon what they hear on here, the end result could be just as bad.
  17. Cincinnati will always be Cincinnati. You don't think Crean, Callipari, and Pitino would have continued to raise their programs and be contenders year in and year out? SLU is on the rise. UAB is on the rise...
  18. I think the only arguable point for SLU moving to the MVC would be that it is an ideal fit for just about all of our teams - EXCEPT Men's basketball. And since Men's basketball is what we are talking about here, the thought of going to the MVC makes me shudder. But, like someone said let's not worry about what's not going to happen. If the MVC wanted to make an argument and a play for SLU they should have tried to lure Marquette, Depaul and SLU from Conference USA. Maybe they did, I can't say. They could have also pulled Butler from their conference over as well and then with Creighton, Marquette, Depaul, Butler, SIU, and SLU in that conference it wouldn't have been too bad. We then would be in a conference with similar schools and athletic departments as ours, the proximity would have been nice, we would host the Conference Tournament, and it would have been a good fit for all of our sports. Oh well, I'm still glad it's not happening. As far as somebody's comment about it being a great day for the Billiken program, can you clarify that for me. I certainly don't see this as a great thing. If you look at the options we were given, I guess the best thing happened, but it's not great moving from one conference to a lesser conference. Conference USA was really starting to climb and I hate that this has happened. As far as all your points about the A-10, you guys make some great points. It's nice to be playing Xavier again as that used to be a great rivalry. Roy, UMass was a big draw, but I think that was because the year they played us here, they were one of the best teams in the nation, it was on ESPN, Dicky V was here, and that entire year we had huge draws because of the Highmark, Claggett, and Waldmann trio. Remember the intensity of that game though? Unfortunately Lou Roe was unbelievable. I think Marcus Camby sat out that game too, due to injury.
  19. It's amazing to me that Marquette and Depaul are making this move. Their schools and Athletic Departments are much more similar to ours. I agree, we will be back with them one day.
  20. former d1, it's amazing how quickly someone will jump down your throat...I'm glad some clarified their stance. I may have 2 tickets for you, but I probably won't know until next week. The seats are down section 105.
  21. Well, I'm glad - that makes sense and is politically correct - thanks.
  22. whatever the scenario, we will be in a worse conference and that blows IMO
  23. Interesting reading all the thoughts about last night. Forgive the redundancy as a lot has already been said. Overall, I thought it was a disappointing night. Like Coach said after the game, never aplogize for a win. I'm glad we won as losses even in the preseason seem to take their toll. Initially, I was disappointed in what seems to be the patented slow Billiken start. I think it was over 6.5 minutes into the game and we had 3 points on the board. That is horrible! It seems like we have seen that with too many Billiken teams. Luckliy for us, AIA had a horrible start as well. I think we have to do a better job from the start. Since we are not going to be an offensive powerhouse, it's imperative to not get behind from the get go, as it will be hard to catch up. I understand it was the first game, but I hope this won't be a pattern. The other disappointing thing were the turnovers. Enough said, as this has been addressed. I loved TF's intensity and loved his bully attitude. Coach talked about having a quick hook when players have 2 fouls early in the game. I hope TF can learn to find the balance between being an animal but keeping himself in games and out of foul trouble. I too was impressed with RB's shot. I know he really didn't get in any rhythm, but you can tell he has skills. Coach said after the game that he is potentially a 20+ points a game guy. Wow! Wouldn't that be great if that was the case. Looking at the offense on this team, that could happen. Sloan hustled as well, but somebody said it best when they talked about it not being pretty when he went to the basket. That is perfect, as that is the case. I seem to remember Highmark being the same way. I am not comparing the two, but I remember when Highmark did drive to the basket it not being all that pretty. Strength Coach, make Ian a project an bulk him up for the years to come. He looked like a little boy in a body that grew too fast. He definitely has the height and I didn't see enough from last night to comment on his future, but trusting a lot of your judgement, I would say he's going to be a huge asset in the future. The uniform shorts thing is kind of inexcusable. RB looked like he was wearing Yao Ming's shorts and Ian's look like they would have been big on Yao. Great job student section. It was nice to see the Blue. Roy, they must have read this board and your post! Kidding. It was nice to see. I think Varner was okay, but certainly not great. Question: I picked up a pocket schedule from the ticket office and Varner was on the cover. Maybe there are an assortment of them and there are others with other players. If not, I question that. Why not Fish or Sloan? AD was certainly no A Train, but looked okay. He was fantastic at the line, but I did not like his shot selection. Defense was what I expected from these guys. As far as all the praise that has been given to AIA, I don't know about that. I'm not saying they are a bad team as I think they came into last night with a crazy shooting percentage, but we will face much better and will we see guards that are as fast. Let's hope the coaches analyze the game film, iron out the turnovers and work with the players and the defensive lapses and this should be an interesting year.
