  1. RA gets misses, but he gets better with each game overall
  2. Me too. I hope that he is happy about being part of the recognition event. I am really disappointed that this is after the game. So short sighted from my perspective.
  3. Wow. That is really sad. Dwayne was one of the brightest athletes I have talked to at SLU and there have been some very smart kids playing sports at SLU. Eckerle was very bright, Jeff Harris was very bright, Ted Mimlitz was very bright (another pre-med guy). That is one of the things I like about our programs, we have recruited some very good students. And, yes, some knuckleheads, I remember them when I was there... Now, as for Tatum, I think he is going to go wherever he feels he is going to have the best one year experience and where he can have the best legacy. He has mentioned leaving a legacy in at least one interview. That could mean anything, but he seems like a smart kid with his head on straight - a credit to good parenting!
  4. I get your point. That said, if you saw a fat women walking down the street, you wouldn't walk up to her and say, "you're fat!" You have the right to. Your speech is protected. But, even though you don't know her, you wouldn't do it (at least I hope you wouldn't). However, for some reason, on the internet, people feel free to say anything, anytime. That is bad enough, but these kids people are ripping are OUR TEAM. They are going to be our fellow alumni. And, they are still kids. Heck, most of them this year are still teenagers. Teenagers! I guess when you have teenagers (and/or have raised them) and you realize how vulnerable even the toughest 6'2" 215 lb kid is, you just feel differently. Reasonable criticism of play is fine. Obvious joking around fine. But a lot of the comments here are just downright mean and insensitive. I am really not criticizing any particular poster, just trying to interject with a little perspective. I'm sure in frustration we have all posted things we know we shouldn't have, but the incessant and sometimes vicious comments several days after a bad loss just seem over the line. Just my opinion and trying to think about the impact on the kids (and at least some of them DEFINITELY read this board).
  5. At least, if he is committed and has good guidance.
  6. So true. Every time I see an opposing player in the corner, I cringe because I know much of the time the defended is sucked into the middle, So for two years, Crews' teams were effective in 3 pt. defense and now they are not. Just curious - is that a function of the current crop of frosh not willing to play defense or is it more a function of the two previous teams just remembered what Majerus taught them and Crews was just fortunate to have the latent effects of that?
  7. If senior night is not held before the game, then that will be pretty definitive evidence that someone in the athletic hierarchy is tone deaf.
  8. It seemed like most on this board were very impressed with this class of recruits including Ash. Was that in an alternate universe?
  9. Perspective is everything. Thanks for the reminder.
  10. Which part? If it is the part about the sign, then I stand corrected.
  11. They also received the #1 seed for their conference tournament! Games were this weekend, but I have no idea how the Gorlocks, er, Gorloks, did. ' P.S. I always thought "Gorlok" was from the combination of "Gore" and "Lockwood" hence my misspelling.
  12. I have no idea who Clock is, but the constant narrative that the private schools offer scholarships to poor kids just for sports is so incredibly off base. I get so sick of hearing this. The majority of kids who come from economically challenged areas (primarily the city schools) are not big time athletes, many of them (probably a majority) don't even end up playing on a varsity team. Whether it's CBC, SLUH, Vianney, MICDS, De Smet, Chaminade, etc., there is a constant effort at our reach to help these kids. If some of them turn out to be great athletes, that is fantastic, but the important thing is that they are receiving a very good opportunity to better themselves. The high schools definitely look for kids who are well-rounded and begin an athlete may be part of that, but so is being involved in other activities. It just so happens that at the grade school level sports are the most obvious activity that is easily identifiable.
  13. He's the one who stood in the stands with a sign that said "Fire Soderberg". If anyone should ever be fired from a job, it was obviously Metz! Talk about a train wreck.
  14. I disagree with this. I have seen improvement by the players, but the improvement as a team is very limited. I think a big part of the lack of team improvement is a lack of a leader on the floor.
  15. Crawford seems to get to the basket and FINISH more often and easily than anyone else on the team. Reynolds definitely tries very hard to get to the basket, but he often ends up flinging up a prayer and trying to draw the foul. MY is very streaky - sometimes he gets there but the shot goes awry, other times he seems to never get close. And Ash, well, he certainly has the ability to get to the basket, but he very often misses. Crawford doesn't always get the minutes, but when he does, he seems to always be looking for a way to score. He probably does not have the raw talent that MY or AY has, but he has developed the skills and he seems to play really hard. His defense is another issue.
  16. To be fair, this team is probably #1 in the country in errant passes. How many more assists would we have this year if those passes had not ended up in the stands?
  17. That strikes me as the main problem with this team right now - either an unwillingness or inability to play solid defense. I get the zone thing (great article), but I would think that learning to play solid man-to-man would really make throwing in a zone defense that much more effective. Even in a zone, you still have to defend man-to-man when your man comes into your zone.
  18. Whitesell was a class guy. I talked to him for a while at one of the golf tournaments and he was great. I always thought he was the heir apparent and was surprised with Crews was brought in. That said, if Whitesell wanted to get back to the East Coast, I don't think he would have been a good long term option. That was basically the case with Romar. Hard to argue with that.
  19. If we're going to do this, let's at least do it right: 1) Individual players will continue to incrementally improve while the team substantially grows worse. No. Most individual players leave, and the starting five next year will all be walk-ons. 2) Tatum will commit to Duke in the fall after spending the day with the cameron crazies and realizing how utterly pitiful SLU's student section is in comparison. No. Tatum will commit to Mizzou and explain the reason is that Crews told him his strategy for substitutions involves a Ouija board and a crazy Eight Ball. 3) Milik will transfer because Crews continues to bench him for no apparent reason. No. Milik will transfer to Mizzou to play with Tatum because Crews forgot Milik was still on the team. 4) SLU will finish in last place again next season with no visible overall improvement. No. SLU will drop down to NAIA and get beat by the Gorlocks by 35...twice. 5) Crews will reveal in a post season press conference that he does not--in fact--have a "system," and consequently, will not be able to bring in anymore recruits. *(2015 recruits will revoke their commitments) No. Crews reveals his Ouija Board system and announces he has recruited three new players - one from St. Joes, one from Nerinx, and the other from Visitation Academy. 6) John Manning will receive an additional year of eligibility from the NCAA No. John Manning will graduate and be hired on as Associate Head Coach with primary responsibility for developing the offensive talents of big men. 7) Dr. Chaifetz will withdraw all personal funding for the University and move his talents elsewhere. No. Dr. Chaifetz will demand his money back. To pay him, the arena is torn down and sold for scrap. 8) Crews will subsequently be fired and Bronson will be promoted, ushering in a new era of Soderberg-esque mediocrity. No. Crews will be name "coach for life" at which time we will learn that through a freakish medical experiment, Crews really IS Brad Soderberg due to incredible plastic surgery and some really good lifts in his shoes. 9) Upon news of his HC's dismissal, Brett Jolly will transfer to the wash basin. No. Brett Jolly becomes the point guard playing each game in 2015-2016 for the full 32 minutes (only 32 minutes because each game is called after about 32 minutes due to the "mercy rule" 10) The clocktower will be demolished in order to construct a memorial of campus protestors. No. Chaifetz will be demolished and the University will be renamed Michael Brown University in memory of the protestors. There. I think I have got it all pretty much correct. Let the negativity rain down!
  20. "merriam-webster - simpleton - someone who is not very intelligent or who does not have or show good sense or judgment." Maybe I just have more respect for and confidence in Rick Majerus, but I don't think he would hire a simpleton for such an important position.
