  1. We recruited him out of high school - played at Xavier. Good 3-pint shooting and free throws: doesn't help with assists or rebounds. Not sure what kind of defender he is. He put up good numbers last year and he's very experienced.
  2. The portal closes tomorrow, btw. More than 1,900 players have entered so far.
  3. Nate Santos to the portal.
  4. Brickus to Nova. Jack Clark back in the A-10 to VCU. I thought a player like that might fit the mold of a Schertz player. Although he's taken a bunch of 3s in his career, he doesn't make them a very good rate.
  5. I like these transfer videos that are out there - including captions with stats.
  6. Yeah there are some flaws in his game, but we're not going to get the perfect player. He is an experienced player and yes, I read the same thing, that he plays good defense, is very athletic and wants to push tempo - which Schertz wants to do, Boise wants to do the opposite. He likely would be a much better fit here.
  7. I’m talking about the roster Schertz had last year.
  8. We need to replace Julian Larry - PG. Dotzler will be in the mix, but I hope/expect we will land an experienced PG with one of the three remaining spots. I think the combo of Anya/AJ will be at least equal to Kent- who was nothing special until last year. Conwell is better all around than Gibby, but we’ll be fine there. I expect Schertz will have a deeper roster, the question that remains is will his starting 5 be as good as last year?
  9. Some good stuff from Anya here
  10. Very good point, also look at the jump in FG% for Kent in his first year with Schertz compared to his second. It's striking. I will be interested to see what Kent does next year without Schertz. I think Mongolian Mike could be a very good fit.
  11. Speak for yourself, I had Richmond in my office pool.
  12. He seems like a Schertz type of player, so I understand the interest.
  13. It feels like we've been landing a new transfer almost every day - so today is disappointing.
  14. Has he been tied to SLU or are you just speculating? I agree we need rebounding - Conwell and Kent combined for 14 rpg. This kid is well traveled and experienced. This would be his 6th season like Gibby.
  15. Yep, that's goal - with the hope that the two more transfers TBD would be starters. The roster is definitely coming together quickly.
  16. As long as Tate is on staff, Frank will typically be a reliable source for recruiting. He's also texting Schertz directly now - haha!
  17. I understand some of the concerns about Hunter's efficiency, but when I look at his video, I see some similarities to Conwell. Maybe it's because they have similar size and are both lefties. Conwell did not have good efficiency his first year either, but greatly improved by playing under Schertz. Perhaps Hunter could do the same in this system. He may not be quite the same scorer as Conwell, but would probably be a better distributor - closer to being a PG.
  18. I hope so, IMO, it's asking a lot to have a guy go from being barely used this past season to getting 30 minutes a game. I'd feel better if we could find an experienced senior to hand the keys to for one year, while Dotler gets 15-17 mpg in his sophomore year, then he's ready to step up as the starter as a junior.
  19. Now that Dotzler is official - I want to follow up on this. I hope that Dotzler is not our starting guard - rather he's our first guard off the bench. Considering this is Swope and Gibby's final year, I'd like to see them surrounded with other experienced starting players at the 1 and 4 for their final college go-around. Perhaps a couple of senior transfers.
  20. Yes, I'm aware of McCottry and Pikaar - that's why I suggested two more freshmen with the remaining scholarships - four total. As I mention - if one or two can break into the rotation great - I just typically don't count on freshmen to make an impact. When they do, it's a nice bonus.
  21. Elvis has left the building... to Oklahoma
  22. Just throwing out a couple of names - because I know Schertz needs my help with recruiting. What about Brickus or Brantley from LaSalle? Each very productive A-10 players on a team with a poor supporting class and no bigs - they've never played with a big like Avila. Both are very similar - good assist totals and can score. Brickus is smaller, but was more efficient, 3rd team A-10 pick. Brantley is bigger and has nice rebounding totals for a guard. Not sure how each plays defense. I think one of these guys could thrive here.
  23. So if Dotzler and Casey sign as predicted, that still leaves 4 more spots available. I still hope we find a starting PG and starting 4 in the portal, and then two more HS kids would make sense with the last two spots. So the starting lineup would look something like this... 5 - Avila 4 - Not yet signed 3- Gibby 2 - Swope 1 - Not yet signed BENCH 1 - Casey (first big off the bench) 2 - Dotzler (first guard off the bench) 3- Thames (wing) 4 - Hughes * Then the last four spots in the rotation with HS kids (Pikaar, McCottry + two more) - hopefully one or two of them is good enough to crack the rotation and be a contributor. It's always good to have real competition for PT. It's fun watching the roster take shape.
  24. Conversely, Turnbull could have been the one who initiated it. He wouldn't have shown up to the meeting if he didn't have some interest in SLU. Maybe the current staff didn't know much about him and wanted to get to know him? There could have been many reasons that either side decided it wasn't a good fit. Maybe SLU wanted him to wait a bit as they were exploring other bigs. We don't know that he turned us down and we also don't know that he moved on from us. It doesn't hurt to meet and get to know kids in the era of free agency. Maybe he goes to a place like Evansville, has a productive season and then decides to go to SLU for his final season.
