  1. So....its like a trip to the doctor.... "Trust me, I know what I am doing. Bend over, its for your own good!" I sure hope he doesn't have cold hands!
  2. After reading today's P-D: Not enough players with talent Not enough time to teach them REAL basketball Don't expect much until I get MY players Makes me feel pretty stupid that I bought season tickets this year....
  3. some articles with SLU implications in DeCourcy's blog... http://www.sportingnews.com/experts/mike-decourcy/blog/
  4. What stinks is that 2 years ago Tommie could not shoot 3's, last year he was one of the best in the A-10 and this year he can't hit 3's again....I think much of his success last year was due to the fact they had to guard his outside shot. Then he could blow his man and force the help to him.
  5. What makes you think that our players do not want to run Majerus system? Or that they don't believe in him? I think the guys are playing hard and trying to do what they are told, but the system has rendered them into a bunch of exhausted kids scared to fail. As a Billiken fan, the problem is....we see the Lisch and Liddell window closing as we speak... and it is so frustrating! I am not pining for anything in the past, but I just want us to win! We have enough ingreients to win...we just need our coaches to delve into their extensive experience and find something that works. I remember hearing how Jim Baron at Rhode Island totally revamped his style to maximize his guys talents, this included spending time with Billy Donovan at Florida. Ron Everhart at Duquesne lost a bunch of big guys during the season last year and switched his offense that depended on bigs to an offense to a guard oriented fast paced offense. Don't tell me that last year's Duqesne team is better than our's is this year! Lets open it up!
  6. In case you forgot what fun the billikens can be....
  7. I agree...love the "Billiken Blue Sky" theme
  8. The SIU game is big because it is on ESPN U and because of RM it will get us highlights on sportscenter. Also, the game story will probably run on the front of the P-D sports the next day. Also, someone besides our beat writer will be at the game (e.g. TV guys, Bernie, etc) Also, casual fans in St. Louis have no idea SIU is slumping.....
  9. Other than the die hards had live for this message board and the core of the season ticket holders we have become irrelevant to people in st. louis. We have no TV coverage.....our games are not on and the sports guys can't come to practice. Deservedly so, we get nothing more than a game story in the P-D. TT has tried to stay on the high road, but it got to be hard! Mizzou sports have been having a great year and they deserve all of the attention they are getting right now. Last May we had the world by the tail, national coverage, more buzz than a honey farm and our program's inability to capitalize on it on and off the court has left us in the cold. The SIU game gives us a huge opportunity to get that buzz back, but if we once again disappoint we will slide further and further back in the public's consciousness. I think what drives us crazy as Billiken fans is that these losses matter so much to us and there is apathy to it in the world around us.
  10. WELL STATED, I JUST POSTED A SIMILAR SENTIMENT ON ANOTHER THREAD
  11. AT THE END OF THE GAME, THEY QUIT BEING A BUNCH OF ROBOTS WHO WERE SCARED TO MAKE A MISTAKE AND JUST PLAYED....THE WAY THEY HAVE PLAYED THEIR WHOLE LIFE! KEVIN IS A MARKED MAN THIS YEAR, HE HAS GOT A GUY IN HIS BACK POCKET ALL GAME AND HE FACES FREQUENT DOUBLE TEAMS BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN SO PREDICTABLE! EVERYONE WHO WATCHES US, KNOWS THAT HOW GOES KEVIN GOES THE BILLIKENS. WHEN TOMMIE BLOWS UP THE MIDDLE OF THE DEFENSE IT TAKES AWAY THE HELP ON KEVIN AND GIVES HIM ROOM TO WORK.... I WOULD LOVE FOR US TO MIX THINGS UP....PRESS SOMETIMES, RUN SOME SET PLAYS, AND RUN MOTION TOO! BECOME LESS PREDICTABLE....A TEAM THAT RUNS A SOPHISTICATED SYTEM POORLY IS EASY TO DEFEND.
  12. to get a better idea of why we are in this situation.... I remember BS saying when he installed the pack defense that it was designed for less athletic teams to frustrate more athletic teams and it seemed to do so regularly during his tenure at SLU and Wisconsin. They stressed no transition baskets and took away the drive to the middle of the defense and forced the high flying teams to work hard for shots or beat them with contested outside shots (i.e. Dwyane Wade never scored in double figures against us). Having so many people in the lane also helped them on the defensive boards. Most high level teams are used to things coming easy on offense and they would settle for bad shots which would keep SLU in the game. Having so many people in the lane also made double-teaming dominant post players easier. The old "blocker-mover" offense (which I think Brad should have never scrapped) also allowed less athletic more physical teams to grind it out against the higher tempo teams. It alllowed SLU to control tempo and forced high level kids who aren't that interested in defending to guard somebody for 25 seconds a possession, if they didn't it would produce open shots or mismatches (i.e. Louisville, Cincinnati, Memphis, DePaul). Unfortunately highly disciplined high level teams (i.e. UNC or Arizona) who could shoot would make SLU look bad from time to time. It also keeps a team you should blow out in the game, you think of the bad losses vs ST. Bona, Duquesne and Temple that they shot lights out against us. Not saying that I recommend any changes, but i think it partially explains why we are in this situation where are players seem poorly suited for our current situation.
  13. We need to stop this dude....he already has 1100 pts and 700 rebounds in his career....this year he has had 12 rebounds vs Texas Tech, 14 rebounds vs fresno state and 15 rebounds vs UW-Milwaukee http://jsonline.stats.com/cbk/players.asp?id=38778
  14. No rest for the weary....Sam Houston State is 5-0 Here's is an article of their win vs UW-Milwaukee(who seems to have consistency problems, too) http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=690809 GO BILLS
  15. http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/mens...er_saint_louis/ the camping reference?
  16. Last year's Duquesne team could have played the Long Beach State team we played saturday 50 times and beat them all 50....they are even better this year...they are legit They lost to st bona by 5 points......playing in some high school sized gym in the backwoods of NY
  17. I just hope that Kevin and Tommie don't end up as a trivia question.... "Who were the STL metro guys who had great freshman and sophomore years and then faded away?"
  18. Don't forget, Dustin is "redshirting"
  19. how many of this year's players will be on the team next year anyway?
  20. maybe he will "call in sick" , just kidding....
  21. do you think we are going to start pressing teams? because we are undersized and need a few easy baskets?
  22. other scores....URI 56-50 over providence (who just beat BC) holy cross 56-45 over sju
  23. "disposable"....oops freudian slip i meant "disposal"
  24. He is coaching basketball, not enriching uranium or solving mid-east peace.......there are tons of stories out there about a coach putting in an offense or defense in a week to screw up an opponent. Hopefully RM can take the raw materials he has at his disposable and win, at least not get any more 40-balls dropped on him.... I know he has the knowledge and the resources to do so.
  25. I am not anti-rick, but to much is given, much is expected. On another note, Its a lot easier to get a recruit when he knows he will never have to spend a day in west pine gym. D-3 schools would be embarassed to have that dump.
