VCU on their 4th HC and it’s still same old same old. Jeesh what are they doing that we’re not doing.

Took the words right out of Bob Huggins’ mouth; playing Charlie Spoonhour is like a trip to the dentist, or some such words. Hugs was commenting on Spoon’s defense. And Majerus with to win Defend and Rebound. What killed Travis these past two seasons was the collapse of the team’s D especially in the second half. For example. how did they allow SIUE to make up an 18 point deficit? That game more than any other wrecked the 22-23 season for us.

If we can land a coach that delivers W’s and Tourney bids, who the AD is not all that important. Say Schertz delivers bigly(sorry Mr Trump), the AD’s primary job should be catering to donors for NIL$’s, compliance, watching over the non rev sports, and marketing the hoops program. For example, who’s the face of the nations most successful hoops programs? Hint; it ain’t the ADs, and I would guess they’re happy to leave all the responsibilities in the hands of the HC. Hire the right guy and get the hell out of the way. Is SLU a good job for Schertz? One big factor in our favor is we will likely be more patient than a P6 school. Also, Spoon and Majerus proved there is a market for GOOD college hoops in St L. In a way we are a sleeping giant. See St John’s for example. It was dying on the vine until Pitino took over. Now it’s a hot ticket. I hope Schertz takes the above into consideration when making his decision.Of course there are other factors where we fall short of a P6 program, but we still have our pluses. Enough? We’ll see shortly.

I’m no Wiz at math but if coach A leaves for Job B then Coach A’s seat needs to be filled and if Coach C fills the seat of Coach A then Coach C’s seat is open and on and on the carousel spins. It’s not about one school retaining a coach, it’s more about who replaces who and so on. I think it’s grows exponentially, but I’ll let our Wiz deal with the math.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say our next HC will come from a lower mid program like Samford, UNC Asheville, et al, or a P6 AC. A guy with some success or comes from a successful program . My reasoning is once the carousel speeds up more P6 jobs will become open and the hot mid major coaches like Schertz, Kelse, May, DeVries will be pursued to fill the empty chairs. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing, although, I’d like us to land Schertz the competition from the bigs will just be too great and too rich for our blood. Hopefully, if we can get a guy for a mil or slightly less, the savings will go the NIL fund, and the new guy will spend it wisely.

Just read an article on UL’s top 8 candidates. Schertz was not listed. I don’t think this rules him out but there were some heavy hitters on the list.

Not sure how important local ties are in recruitment given NIL. It’s become show me the money days.

Every time Curcic got on the court we took the lead. I want him around.

And where would you go if UL offers?

If we match Travis’ over pay for any coach that’s a huge mistake. Maybe for May and Kelse a raise of $800k but no one else. We need NIL $$’s .

Yeah we’re safe there. The Portal watch starts Monday, but unti we have a coach not much use in studying it too hard save for our guys entering and any A10 key players.

Thames, Larry, Gibby, Curcic, SVB, and Medley are keepers. I spoke to Medley’s dad at MBeach and he said the reason Cian came to SLU was Travis and how he developed Yuri. I think Cian may bolt for an East Coast Team. He came on strong and might want to play closer to home. Here’s hoping he holds his horses until he meets the new coach.

We don’t need a name coach. We just fired one. We need a good coach who has systems that work and can figure out what kind of players best fit his systems.

From above who are realistically possible? Definition: They would have mutual interest. Guys like Kelsey, Mays, Sprinkle, and DeVries are holding out for P6 jobs. They would view SLU as a lateral move not a step up. I think Mack falls into this group as well.
