  1. I would think the article and continued winning will get more fans. Likely a lot of young girl ball players from around the area will want to see a winner that's close by.
  2. Timmy did a good job on Shimmy. She sounds like a saviour for the Women's program. Dedicated, smart, hard working, and charismatic. She doesn't seem to have any problem recruiting top athletes to SLU...hmmm?
  3. If Brad offered everyone you've discovered V, we'd have at least 150 people on scholies. I've been watching SIU they are playing the ball very very well. You've got to be aware of every pass or they will pick your pocket in an instant.
  4. Watched the Butler/UT game. Butler's got a good looking team. Mostly JR's and SR's who play very well together. Solid outfit. At halftime the analysts talked about the selection committee and what they look for in March. They said they think the committee in the past would give the nod to a BCS school that may have finished fifth in conference over a 2nd place mid major with 20+ win season. However, this is changing somewhat, ala George Mason getting a nod last year from a one bid conference. Specific to the Butler/UT game, they said Butler beating IU and if they went on to win against UT would be big favorable factors come selection Sunday given BU were not to win the automatic bid at the Horizon tourney. This is why I think it's so important for us to knock off a ranked team...guess who that would be. If we upset UNC, the A&M fiasco would just disappear into thin air.
  5. Wright is long and lean, only around 205. If JJ's back and can put his body on him it may counter his helping out too much. Any event UNC ain't gonna be easy. But Zaga showed they're young and can be beaten. But right now we should just be looking ahead to Houston and getting that crappy Aggie taste out of our mouths. Am sure most posters/fans are in a state of high anxiety over the Bills. They certainly placed a big question mark in every one's mind after last Sunday.
  6. Not Iggy, Billiphan/Flyphan/whatever phan....
  7. This is going to be a very difficult game. Sounds to me like they got some real athletes who like to go up and down the court.
  8. Would think this will be a real good test and measuring stick for what we are. Houston program seems to be at a similar stage in that they feel they are an NCAA bubble team as well. They play in a similar watered down major conference. And picked to come in 2nd or 3rd, like us. Don't know anything about their talent or style but given the pre season talk they must be above average. Any thoughts on Houston? What type of game to expect? How do we match up?
  9. Actually, I wish IV had more whack job in him. There's nothing wrong with being intense, physical, and motivated. I'd sure like to see IV jamming it home instead of trying reverse finger rolls or whimpy little layups. Same with BH. Time to put a little meanness in the Bills.
  10. I am thankful I live 900 miles away from you....But it's a nice thought just the same. And it's good to see that beings from alien planets appreciate our national holidays. God bless you Tiny Billiphan and your other personas as well.
  11. Sounds like our Zeuss is going to be dealing with a whack job out there. HOpe he handles it better than he did A&M's bigs. He's going to need to if we have any shot of pulling off an upset against the Heels.
  12. If you look at the mid majors making the runs over the past 10 years you'll see they're jr and sr laden teams. This is the way we're going to have to do it for the forseeable future or maybe forever. Pretty much figure we're gonna be on the short end of the stick for most kids in the top 100. This is why it's key UB can have no gaps in his recruiting classes if we're going to compete for a tourney spot year in and year out. The other key to this is that these kids develop along the way. We can't afford too many JJ types.
  13. This strategy goes way back. I recall that Jabbar's, then Lew Alcindor, HS coach was hired by Holy Cross with the hope LA would join him in Worcester. Alas, young LA headed for the bright lights of LA, and we all know how that worked out. It really only sucks when you're the school on the losing end. Sendek said it best, "as college coaches we're hired to bring in the best players", if this is what it takes, and apparently in a lot of cases it does, how do you fault him? College sports is all about money these days...What if Griffey or Sugg's hc wanted an asst's job? If the budget allows it, would you complain if either signed w/ SLU?
  14. I've got to admit RealisticBill and I are on the same page about a lot of stuff with the hoops program, but right now is not the time to be discussing anyone's dismissal other than the Soccer coach. Cripes, we've got an arena going up for $80 or so mil, a bb team that many think is going to make a run at the dance, and other sports are doing well. The TV contract is the result of not winning in the past. If we don't accomplish that this year, then it's time to start reviewing everyone's performance or lack thereof.
  15. and put the Aggie game behind us. Learn from it and try and avoid it in the future. I like what TL said, "we've got to learn to be tougher." This is really the attitude you're looking for after a dismal defeat. Look to Houston and look to bounce back. We've got 'em at home and it would be a good W for a couple of reasons. They're a sound team and we could show some character and heart. Which is what this team is going to need to make this a successful season.
  16. Yeah, some tough holes left to go...in fact w/ Houston coming in you could say we are starting Amen's corner.
  17. AGreed Cheese, to lose by 36 is awful...God awful. But had it been 96-60 at least we could have layed it mostly on the defense. What's scary about the 33 is it's mindful of the 39 against St. Joes. Those are the last two legit D-1 teams we played. That computes to a 36 avg. I sure hope we are a hell of a lot better than that against these types of teams.
  18. I dont' think anyone would be as upset if we lost by 36 if we showed a glimmer of something...anything...any sign that we even belonged on the same court as A&M. When a team only rings up 33 points in 40 minutes, that's just sad. Savannah State sad. As someone posted it looked like the JV's vs the Varsity. And the game against St.Joe's last year still lingers in the minds of a lot of fans. I thought that was about as bad as it could get. Well, it got worse. Toss on top of all that, this team was supposed to be dance material...and...you just pushed the frustration meter deep into the red zone. Please, no more pitiful games.
  19. Right on, Kshoe. We don't know anymore than we did a week ago. Yes, 3 high scoring wins over lesser competition was encouraging. But being tossed into the Aggie woodchipper and coming out less than mulch is very discouraging. I think we all expected, something a lot closer and more competitive from this team. I don't think any of us expected any game to approach the tourney loss to St. Joes last year, and now we get something even uglier. Let's just all hope this game was an abberation or major proportions. I still think our inside game needs a lot of work...a lot of work. When the perimiter guns ain't working, you've got to go inside and pound it in the hoop.
  20. If what Billiken TX is saying is true, and jeez am I going to get slammed on this, then that's UB's fault. A coach has got to assess the opponents weaknesses and strengths. After seeing AM in person, you would have thought he'd have a pretty good idea of what we were in for. The thing that I got from listening, was that every time we did try and push it we never got any numerical advantage on the breaks. Rammer countless times said 3 on 3, 4 on 4, even 4 on 5. The Bills must have felt like Custer at the little big horn when they were on a break, "where'd all these guys come from?" This may have been the game to abandon the run and play a half court game. Running's good when you can do it, not so good when the other team stops it. Time to deflate the ball. If we're giving out grades, this is definitely an F.
  21. that for a season where expectations have never been higher...the Bills manage to get tagged with one of the ugliest losses in school history. Timmerman's article points out the fewest points since like 1943, the worst fg% since 1951, the biggest point spread since Moses parted the red sea. As for someone posting about the selection committee, if this team shows it can recover from this and build on it and in March is playing good basketball, this score will mean nothing...just another W.
  22. this was like getting a quadruple bogie on the second hole. There's still a lot...a lot...of season left, so no time to panic. All is not lost. Whatever the reasons, and there are no excuses, for losing this bad, we can only hope that they learned what it will take to compete at such a high level, and it lights a fire under them. This game exposed our most glaring weakness, lack of any proven inside depth. The way A&M beat us was to play intense D that effectively shut down our perimiter and transition games. When that happens you have to look inside for your shots and snag some offensive rebounds for putbacks. IV can't do it by himself. Not sure where UB's going to find the answer to this one.
  23. Thank you for your graciousness. We all certainly hope you are right.
  24. Thicks, can't use that as an excuse. A&M played 3 games in a row as well. We're just not at that level.
  25. Ok, lets look at with the glass half full. They will learn just how much hard work is left to do to play at this level. If we get hammered in the press it will be because Mizzery is 4-0 and looking good. Since, we couldn't see the game here, and relying on Earl and Rammer, it sounded like AM defended the hell out of us and it really affected our shooting. Rammer now said this may have been our worse loss in many many years.
