  1. So now it's stupid to rip UB, after a tenure of five years, for not signing players talented enough to take the program to the next level? I don't care where the hell they're from, Cameroon, Paris, Bagdhad, just get 'em. bBut what do I know? I'm stupid for ripping a guy whose not getting the job done. I know, B'roy, I broke my promise, but am truly amazed at what some of you will settle for at SLU.
  2. Watching the NCAA's, I'm always struck by one thing. The courts they play on always blare out the host school's identity. Watching the game in Columbus last night, that was not OSU's on campus arena. It was Nationwide arena. Yet that big, make that Huge, Ohio State logo in center court was great advertising for OSU. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but in the past when NCAA games have been played at the Savvis/Scott, SLU's identity are the words Saint Louis in the blue end zones. It doesn't lead one to believe these games are being hosted by Saint Louis University. Just that they are being played in Saint Louis. I'd like to see the AD department go to Scott and say, "hey we need exposure for the school". Paste a Billiken head or two in the end zone. Put a big SLU logo at center court. Or Saint Louis Univeristy at the 3/4 areas of the court. Something for cripes sake that at least let's people know we're involved in college athletics, even if we don't make the dance. A good chance at some national exposure going right down the toilet to my way of thinking.
  3. Then why did we waste those scarce budget $$$'s on a guy we had no chance of getting?
  4. I don't think I "ripped" UB for Torres Roundtree. I don't know anything about him. I'm not disputing I ripped him, Broy, because I do at about every turn, and I may well have said something stupid. I most like ripped him about recruiting in general and how SIU seems to think St. Louis is their own little wal mart.
  5. I got UNLV beating 'em in round 2....should be a whole lot easier for the running rebs to take down a Community College than a BCS Big 10 Biggie. And besides, how bad would Ryan look if he loses to a Community College? Maybe UW will offer you know who?
  6. Got any idea how we're doing with him? I know...it's a stupid question, but it helps pass the time while I'm watching other teams have a blast at the dance.
  7. at this time of the year? How great it was to upset a 5 seed at the dance, or how it felt good to win our first NIT game? We really have no idea how the staff is doing on the recruiting trail, so that's a non subject until someone verbals or signs (we're all pretty sure how that's going to go, aren't we). So, what the hell, let's speculate as to who'd do a great job at SLU.
  8. I'm sure Nark caught that as well. If Nark were to say to Billikan, I don't respect the fact that you see things more positively than I do, would that be saying the same thing?
  9. Was listening to Gotleib on ESPN this morning. He was discussing Duke's loss and was saying it was due largely to lack of a true PG. Even though Paulus had a good game, Gotlieb said he's not a PG in the truest sense of the word, whereas in Maynor, VCU had a very good one, who was the difference in the game. PG is a such a key in hoops. He's the guy who makes it happen. If TL is our only option for PG next year, and he's not a bad option, I hope he works on this all summer. Ideally, I'd love to see UB land the Peterson kid from DeMatha as you just feel, because of Dematha, he will have the requisite skills and savvy to step in and play it well. If not him, hopefully someone from the JUCO ranks. We really need a true dyed in the wool PG.
  10. Billikan, it ain't gonna end until he does something. I think a lot of the rancor right now is we're all watching the dance and wishing we were there. A lot of us thought we would be. Whose fault is it we're not? Not Fr. Biondi's, not CL's, it clearly rests on UB's shoulders. Where you're really going to see the long knives come out is after Spring recruiting is over. If he doesn't land a decent PG and a PF, I'm expecting Nark, Drew, Myself, and others will be gathering for a lynching.
  11. Prove you can reach the top 50 and maybe you'll get top 50 money.
  12. And no years of success, does?
  13. Note, the schools with bigger budgets than SLU tend to get the dance a whole lot more than we do. Maybe that's the result those schools tend to get bigger bucks than SLU who rarely goes.
  14. So once again, the blame falls to Fr. Biondi. Poor little Sodie. Here's a thought, since you've all figured it out that he's fighting the great battles of unreimbursed cell bills and ice cream cones, why doesn't UB just tell these cheapskates to take a hike and find himself a new HC position with a better funded program? I'd be surprised if none of his many suitors out there haven't been whispering in his ear that "you don't need this, come on over to State U. We know you're a great coach just waiting to happen who could out recruit JC himself, if only you had the $$$." I mean would Rick Pitino, Coach K, Tubby Smith, Rick Barnes, etc. stand for paying cell bills and ice cream cones out of their own pocket? Not on your life. Stop with this resource thing....it's not valid. My suggestion when the thought crosses your mind, go to the first thread above and click on Clayco site...is that resources enough for you?
  15. No mas, Dave, no mas.....I give....you guys won't see the light until...oh...say....2012. Maybe when UMKC nails down an 11 seed and the Billikens and Brad are watching from the new players lounge at the Chey saying next year for sure. Doesn't UB have a younger son as well?
  16. to listen to you guys defend UB it boils down to this: HE'S A GREAT GUY, STABLE (no one else is knocking down his door) WE CAN'T FIND ANYONE BETTER (that's really discouraging) ROME WASN'T BUILT IN A DAY (it didn't take a millenium either) Yeah, I know I've done more than my fair share of anti Brad posts and it's getting old. But I'm screaming Uncle. You guys win. No more anti Brad talk from me until after the spring recruiting season is over.
  17. Schasz was applauding Grant more than SLUSER. Let's not take out our bitterness of having to spend another March dreaming of a berth out on VCU.
  18. Give the guy credit, Broy, he just beat the Evil Empire of college hoops. He slayed Goliath. A question for you, how many McD all americans does VCU have on it's roster? By the way, I'd take KL and TL over Duke's guards, even though Paulus played a gutsy game last night.
  19. Biondi supposedly uttered those famous words during the salad days of Spoonball. Wasn't hard to imagine after seasons like 93-95.
  20. There's no event that get's the juices flowing quite like March Madness. I was in a Sports bar last night, and you would have sworn everyone there was a VCU grad. It's such a bummer that we haven't been there for 7 straight years. And what's worse is, it doesn't appear we're gonna make one any time soon. You Kool aid clubbers can spin UB's tenure at SLU any way you want. But, the bottom line is, he hasn't even got us on the bubble in five years. So for fans to question his performance at SLU is not disloyal, not evil, and not unfair. Thanks, UB, for another historic season.
  21. C'mon, Skip, that's a ridiculous statement. If Dean Smith hadn't has all those greats at UNC, he would have been 200-800 instead of the opposite. Take away TL and KL and where would UB be the last two years? How about right below Duquense last year and Richmond this year. You're gonna knock Martelli for recruiting those two? We would kill for Martelli type years. And I venture to say, unless UB pulls off a miracle spring, we'll be looking up St. Joe's skirt again next year.
  22. Get outta here, you two. You really think we can find a better coach or recruiter than UB?
  23. I tried that, Skip. They kept bringing mine back.
  24. Yeah, we wouldn't want a bright young assistant, who can recruit, with roots in an NCAA championship team. Wait a minute, we had one, didn't we? Where'd he go? Truthfully, there are good coaches out there just chomping at the bit for their chance. You will read about them every year for the rest of your life. We just weren't lucky enough to land one when Zo left.
  25. OSU is a very tall order...but hey, it's the dance.
