  1. what's he done to earn anyone's support? 5 years of nada.
  2. You have to get me some of what ever it is you're smoking. First you suggest we're getting the Brad 5 and now Alex Tyus. How about OJ Mayo?
  3. Wrong, Brian. Most people on here do not agree with what the main problems are. There's one group that places the blame squarely on one person, Brad Soderberg. Then there's the UB proponents who say he can't get it done because Biondi's tying his hands, the coeds are prettier at Iowa, other schools cheat, you have to be Einstein to get in, he can't buy a recuit an ice cream cone, West Pine is literally falling down around him, St. Louis has bad weather, it goes on and on. And, of course, until all the above is rectified there is no sense in hiring someone new.
  4. No, I made the offer to Skip. Terms were "other than the two verbals he has from Mitchell and Relphorde, I bet he doesn't sign anyone else before April 15." M and R were never included in the bet. It's who he signs besides them by 04/15.
  5. Western Civilization has a whole lot more to worry about than UB's failure to sign 18-20 year old kids. I'll pass on the retirement fund bet, but will take the 25 w/ you as well. Again, he signs no one by the 15th other than Mitchell and Relphorde. You game, Doc? Drew don't be apologizing to the Kool Aid Club. I think it's fair to point out that lowly Fordham can get an early quality signee, while we can't ink a PG who would rather wait to see who Iowa is going to hire. Broy, where does Fordham rate on the all important budget list? I'm thinking UB is just having a difficult time making any kind of connection with kids who have other options.
  6. Well, it sure ain't no roller coaster with UB. Just the same boring old merry go around of mediocrity.
  7. You're on Skip. Just to clarify, I said he'd land the two verbals he has...but will not ink anyone else by 04/15. Clear?
  8. No, we won't disappear. We'll be applauding the guy loudly...we're SLU fans. We don't want to see UB fail to prove us right. Prove us wrong...puhleeeze prove us wrong. I hope the guy lands a good spring class. We'll all stand up and cheer.
  9. You're right, we know nothing about recruiting. But we do know about the product once it's put on display. When you see schools like Butler, SIU, VCU, X, etc. put winning teams with leapers, shooters, slashers, and tenacious defenders on the floor, it's only natural to ask, "hey, why can't we get players like that?" I know nothing about recruiting HS kids, it's not my specialty. But UB's supposed to and based on what we've seen in the pre and post recruitment of TL and KL, he's simply not getting it done. DP, DB, BH, Obi, HD to name a few who will never be solid D1 players. Who really knows why he can't land a Lasme, a Curtis Whithers? Only him. Some here would lay the blame on Fr. Biondi, which I think is a cop out. Again, if UB were worth his salt, he'd have pulled a Spoonhour on us and quit, "it's impossible to recruit given the administrative BS I deal with." He's not going to do this. Is it because he just loves SLU so much he doesn't want to leave us in the lurch? NO! It's because who else would hire him? There are many things that enter into the picture in recruiting. SI did a little blurb on it last year and what it most boiled down to was how the recruit expected he would get along with the coach and the staff. Yes, there are other factors that influence them, but the coach is most likely the primary factor. It's why the NCAA allows kids out of commitments if a coach leaves a school. Those kids didn't commit to a school, they commited to a man. Sadly, we don't seem to see many quality kids committing to our man, and that's why he'll most likely be out of a job in the next year or two. Again, your premise is correct, we don't know anything about recruiting, but we do no how to judge the recruiting job he's done. The proof is in his record.
  10. What makes you think UB is going to play freshman? This year's bumper crop garnered a total of about 150 minutes. As for Skip, the only players I see improving significantly are KL, TL, and LM. DB and DP have been here for 3 years now and they've basically flatlined it. An occasional up tick here and there for them, but pretty much the same old same old. BH? Who knows. Same for DM and AK. Here's hoping they all have Adam Morrison type summers, ie in the the gym at 9:00 leave at 4:00 and shoot 500-1000 shots a day. We want these kids to succeed, and am sure they do as well, if not more so. But without additional help, we're gonna be looking up a lot of skirts in the A-10.
  11. get verbals from Roundtree and Booker, and Brad got "sorry we're not home now" from Femi John....Broy, the guy simply can't recruit. Their is got to be something about him and or the staff that these kids aren't buying.
  12. Steve, I didn't see Drew call out anyone by name.
  13. Yeah, but you start with the tumors...and we got a whopper. Isn't the April 15 signing date fast approaching? I'll bet you $25, Brian, he doesn't sign any one other than the two verbals he has right now. The man couldn't recruit Bill Clinton to a private video session with Paris Hilton.
  14. and no embellishment for this year's performance. Going from 1st team all conference to no team all conference was shameful. However, he did pull in the defenses and allowed our perimiter game to win some games. I'm not sure BH is going to have that effect on people next year unless he goes on some scoring tears early in the season, so others take notice. But if you were an opposing coach scouting our team as it stands right now, you'd say concentrate on KL and TL. Pay a little attention to LM...the rest of 'em? Unless they show us something hit the boards early and get out on the break. We are hurting inside next year. There's no way around that. Now let's see how UB's going to remedy the problem.
  15. Spoon's recruiting of Perry, Love, Jeffers, H from UNLV, Dobbs, Harris got us dancing 4 times in 7 years. I didn't even mention the Legend, since you would say Spoon was not responsible. He may not have liked to recruit, but I'd take him over UB in a heartbeat. Granted one of the 4 times was with Zo at the helm, but those were primarily Spoon recruited players. He also bought in the much heralded flop Cranford, who, as I recall, was being sought after by some of the bigs.
  16. for seeing UB sign a PF that will contribute next year and hopefully a PG. If we don't get help at the 4, which may not even be enough to prop up our inside game, given BH's shortcomings, we are indeed in for a very long season. The top of the A-10 is not getting weaker but better; XU and UMass's recruiting seems to be working. UD has a top notch recruit coming in. Look for St. Joes to be better.
  17. maybe we ought to join a lesser conference and dominate it like Zaga does theirs. At least we'd be dancing most years.
  18. This guy sounds too good to be true. A real PF. C'mon UB close the frigging deal with him.
  19. Drew, I heard from a friend of mine in Ohio that X landing this guy was all about the chili. This Frease kid loves skyline chili it seems, and X has franchise on campus. So this is really Biondi's fault. See, if Fr. Biondi would allow more fast food franchises on campus, Brad would be on equal footing when it comes to recruiting. Just another example of how tight Biondi's got his hands around Brad's throat. Oh, and forget Frease's comment about how he fell in love with Miller and his staff. That was a press release from X's SID. We all know that a coach's personality and that of his staff have very little to do with landing recruits.
  20. Great news for X and the conference overall. Wonder if kids fall in love with our HC and staff right off the bat?
  21. Crean is a front runner fo UK, as Donovan will not leave FL. He also has Altman going to Iowa. Lowry to AK. And Kruger to Michigan. MVC schools could be scrambling. Going to be an interesting off season.
  22. It was well done. Amazing team in '64. Not a guy over 6'6" undefeated and national champs....amazing coach. The rest of the Dynasty years, he pretty much had the best players in the nation.
  23. or big name coach will come to SLU. That said, there are future good coaches out there. Every year a crop of Gillespies, Behliens, and Theuss' pop up. UB's will get 6, maybe even 7, years to get this program on track. Say we're still stuck in neutral after next year. Do we stay the course because we don't believe there is anyone better out there, which is wrong, or because if someone new comes in there are going to be growing pains, ie a bad year or two? If we do, UB becomes the men's version of Pizzoti. Patience is a virtue, and good things come to those who wait, but while we are waiting, it would be nice to at least see some baby steps being made toward getting better.
  24. We know one thing abaout his decision to hold off, it wasn't Iowa's coach. So, our vaunted leader could not have been that convincing either. I'm pretty sure after Correia committed to UMass, young Mr. Peterson thought, "heck they don't have a backup pg, I might as well wait it out. See who the Hawkeyes hire." And Broy you are painting a pretty defeatist attitude about Billiken hoops both in the present and for the future. Your argument seems to be UB is better than any new guy we could hire, and in five years will be beating our chest all over again. I can't agree. You see too many programs that are a lot less than ours being raised up by bringing in a new coach. Why would you think SLU couldn't do the same. Look at the excitement Shimmy's creating with the women, and hell we were the bottom of the women's barrel under Pizzotti.
  25. Oh but if it were true....the answer to all our prayers...who knows maybe they do want him...for Kramer? Maybe it's also why Peterson is still committed to Iowa; UB told him he's in line for the job. Hey, a fellow can dream can't he?
