  1. Midwest connections. Also, I get the impression DeCourcy does not think RM is the best man for the job. He likes the ambitious young AC approach. Also, he said the ship has sailed for Spring recruiting, and if they don't want it to leave for the fall they better get someone in place real quick.
  2. He loves Groce from OSU and the Wright State coach. He said SLU doesn't need a big name to have success. He was gushing about Groce, said he can get it done with recruiting, very talented.
  3. Implied RM would report to Chaifetz. Based on what he's read about the situation. Said, Biondi is not much involved in sports. That said, he said RM's a brilliant technician, not an easy employee to have, not going to have a radio show, he has run off a lot of AC's.
  4. I wouldn't mind a guy at a low mid major whose been successful. Beilein was at Richmond then got WVU. If there's another one of him out there, great. Why isn't anyone mentioning OSU's Groce. Young, obviously a hell of a recruiter, with a winning coach, and knows the A-10. He could be a mini Bill the Kid.
  5. I'll toss these out while we wait for our version of the "Great One" to make up him mind. Why SLU might be attractive to him: Beyond the obvious reason, the new arena, SLU might appear more like a Utah situation than others that have been offered to him. Utah was no KY, Duke, UNC, etc even when he was there. By this I mean I don't think they had the pain in the a** boosters that a KY or UNC does. Boosters = pressure for immediate results. If he'd gone to USC, it would have been expected of him to match the success of Pete Carrol. For a guy with a questionable ticker you don't need that. Same deal at Wisconsin. Also, both schools place a lot more emphasis on football than hoops, so he'd always be second fiddle to the FB coach, ie not the main man. I don't know if he's got that kind of ego, but other coaches do. If the rumors are true about him and Creighton, he might have been saying, nice little program that I can take some place w/o all the hassles and demands of big time program. Which means, I don't have to be concerned with ticking off some booster at a cocktail party and get hassled by the AD or the University President. Might it also be, someone suggested RM to Biondi as someone to consult with on how to get the SLU program on track? Meaning he's not a coaching candidate at all, just a paid consultant. I think the biggest issue with RM is not being the HC at SLU or any other school, given all his demands are met. But it's whether he still has the fire in the belly and is willing to put his health at risk for any HC job.
  6. I would suggest Biondi doesn't give two hoots to what Bubble Butt Bernie writes about him. Again, ban him from the Fetz. It will be very interesting to see how the ink flows if we get a coach that finally leads us to some prominence. Does BM praise Biondi, or start banging on the Baseball team's lack of success?
  7. If we don't get RM, it might be a downgrade from UB? Disruption? What's more disruptive than not having any D1 talent? Credibility loss? He gave himself an A- grade for this year's team. He was excited about spring recruits, meanwhile Correia, Peterson, MG, and Alexander don't seem to share that excitement. Yeah, he's a great guy, a good family man, a devout Christian, but he's a lousy HC. We deserve better.
  8. When was the last time Saint Louis University appeared on the opening page's news and headlines? It did today, thanks to RM.
  9. Band, I hope you're right here. Again, if RM is allowed the funds to hire good AC's, recruiting is not going to be that hard on him. First, AAU Coaches, HS coaches, and JUCO coaches will not have the reservations of steering a kid our way, that I suspect they had with UB. Hiring RM would change the landscape of Billiken hoops.
  10. Broy, a Knight Templar? Never thought of him that way. I'm thinking Biondi ought to get an injunction against him. Like, his seats at the new arena have to be at the furthest point from the Good Father's.
  11. I don't know if you got this from your skybox at the Busch or not, but for once I agree 100% with you. Even though I think your grammar and syntax were under the influence during the writing process. Could you give us the three names?
  12. What's most encouraging is the 422-147 lifetime record. That's a lot of 20+ win seasons with about 7 losses.
  13. Yeah, I was surprised at that, Cheese. When I heard Frank say yesterday that he let his AC's do a lot of the legwork, I was shocked. I mean it's not like he's a Coach K. Also, someone said he was making few inroads w/ the '08 kids other than an offer and then lost touch with them. Hello? These kids should have been getting calls, bday cards (if allowed), text messages, emails, faxes ...anything legal that shouted want you at SLU!
  14. The way BM's been taunting Biondi, the Good Father ought to ban the overweight SOB from the Fetz. At the least, designate a special press box for him. Far from the action and nacho stands as possible. BM's been nothing but critical of the program, including UB, for some time now. The whole thing about the arena never happening, MVC supremacy over the A-10, the list can go on and on. Now, we make a dramatic move to turn it around and all he does is mock us. C'mon, Father Biondi, sign RM and make BM eat his words. BM, it's spelled "Slim Fast", you can get it at just about most supermarkets and drug stores.
  15. He was the guy standing next to Yedi who was out taking Nessie for a stroll.
  16. I don't understand the mistrust of Fr. Biondi by some posters. It should have been clear after last fall's recruiting disaster and this spring's recruits dropping like flies, that UB was having a whole host of problems in the most important aspect of his job. The essence of success in college hoops is the talent of the players. We weren't getting a lot of it. Some on here believe Biondi wouldn't even notice this, but some mysterious booster did and raised a stink about it. Biondi caved, fired Brad, and never let CL in on it. I don't buy that scenario. She wasn't at the banquet, which shouts, "I know the axe is falling!" Someone posted earlier in the multiple threads about this week's events that there might also have been strong indications that besides his son, UB wasn't going to skim much of the cream off the top of the '08 class. This fact, coupled with the hits he was taking with his spring recruits, was pointing to a disastrous first season in the new arena. Even those of you who wish UB were still the man would have to admit if Spring recruiting yielded two plan B or C players, next year was going to be a struggle and the '08-'09 season was not looking too healthy either. To think Biondi and CL did not see it this way as well is naive. Yes, the firing process could have shown a little more compassion for a guy who gave it his all for five years. And yes it's unfair to the fans and supporters of this program that we've been left in the dark as to the reasons, and what the plan is now. But despite all that, it seems clear the powers that be are trying to improve/upgrade SLU hoops, whether we get Majerus or not. That is what we've all been waiting for, so why all the griping.
  17. Somewhere below in the myriad of posts, Skip, I posted a recent story about Bobby Cremmins at College of Charleston. Briefly, he landed a big time JUCO player who had MD, NCS, and other BCS'er going for his services. This guy CALLS Cremmins and asks if he'd be interested in a meeting. He verbals at the meeting. I think this type of situation might happen if RM comes here.
  18. Rammer was playing the devil's advocate with Frank. He was doubting any of this was true or actually going on, and seemed skeptical of why RM would come to SLU. As for the horses mouth, I think someone here posted that Frank said he actually talked to RM.
  19. Let's start a fund for putting up a billboard near campus with the above picture and the text reading: "DO IT RIGHT THIS TIME! HIRE RICK!"
  20. Hopefully, they are in a smoke filled room reeking of stale pizza and left over toasted raviolis banging out the details of his contract. Doctor B, why are you so skeptical of Frank Cusamano? He said he got all his facts straight from RM himself. You think he's delusional or just a pathalogical liar? Or could it be he's writing a Sports Illustrated story similar to the one about that pitcher the Mets picked up from the Dali Llama back in '84?
  21. Well, I don't know how many other SLU Alumni are going to do this, but I'm buying two bricks if he's hired.
  22. With RM at the helm we have the potential to dominate the A-10. Let me give you an example, the College of Charleston just landed a big time JUCO SF. He was being recruited by Maryland, NCS, and Ole Miss. This kid's coach and father told him to call Bobby Cremmins and ask if the College of Charleston would be interested in meeting with him. He signed last week to play for the Cougars. I truly believe this type of stuff would happen if RM were coach of the Saint Louis University Billikens.
  23. Tom Pecora, who cares? "Majerus wants to coach at SLU" ....Frank Cusamano.
  24. as to not know what RM's demands might be to coach SLU? Despite a lot of criticism on here about his autocratic personality, everyone's always praised him for his business sense. And more than anyone else he's the guy that got an $80mm arena going up off I40. So it's not like he's not a risk taker. Point here being, I can't believe he wouldn't enter a negotiation this serious in clueless mode. Am sure someone told him, hey he's going to want a bigger budget for AC's, travel, etc. Hopefully, he's ready to come across with it.
