  1. No doubt. Good for him. But we don't need quitters in this program, I don't care how talented they are. Again, I go back to that Pitino radio show I heard on the way back from the Temple game; RP made RM sound like a Girl Scout den mother. And look where UL is. Should college hoops be like Paris Island? Yes, but w/o the live ammo. Cripes, the best coaches want their players to be the best they can be. Do we really want some flatterering arse patting guy who just says, don't worry about it, you'll get it the next time? The next time ain't likely gonna happen. I've heard from a prominent Duke alum who says Coach K's public persona is a whole lot different from his practice persona. Leo Durocher was spot on when he said, "nice guys finish last." And by the way, I think our current crop of players would take a bullet for RM.
  2. I'm w/ Taj Mahal on this one. MSU was ready to be brought down by the Billikens. Heck, if we'd hit like 3 or 4 of those 7-10 wide open 3's we'd have been in Phoenix last night. Appling got hot and Green found him wide open at the opportune moment. You know why? Because RM told the Bills to stop Green and defend the interior. He wasn't worried about Appling. Even, Appling said he got a lot of open looks because we were daring him to shoot. The best analogy is if suddenly Dwayne Polk got hot and tore up some unsuspecting Defense. Sadly, that never happened for us. We stood toe to toe w/ the Spartys, and Izzo knows he was lucky to get out of Nationwide with a W. Our guys watching that game last night were probably crying about the L to MSU.
  3. I doubt Shaka turned down ILL because of the possibiltiy of VCU joining the A-10. My guess is he's holding out for an ACC post.
  4. Heck, I hope he runs to ILLINOIS. It opens up Nolan Berry's recruitment again. Of course I've been told on here that even if that happens NB ain't coming to SLU. Must have heard those horror stories about RM being a little hard on his players.
  5. Did RM do away with the annual BB banquet? Also, is the AD going to do anything to celebrate our most successful season since 1997-98? I know SLU is never going to be like the NFL, who manages to dominate the sports pages even in the offseason, but you'd think they're planning a little something to keep up everyone's interest for next year.
  6. Further to the UConn player, his dad doesn't want him playing for a "slave master". I'd think this would pretty much rule him out coming to SLU.
  7. Has RI replaced Baron? I doubt the guys going there until he finds out who his HC is going to be.
  8. I'm not really sure who the bottom feeders are in the A-10 other than Fordham. And supposedly they're going to increase their emphasis on hoops. ST. B's? Hey, they just won the A-10 and made the dance. Their fan base is solid. LaSalle? Granted the Gola ain't much, but they could still put some good teams on the floor. I think VCU and GM are being mentioned because the conference leaders think Charlotte and UMass may bolt because of football. Heck I could see the Beast letting 'em both in and be a 20 team league since they know UL, UC, Uconn, and Rutgers won't be there much longer. Once they're gone, the A-10 becomes the A-16 w/ 2 divisions and the top non BCS conference in the country. And how's that bad for SLU?
  9. Take a look again at the pic of the VCU arena, Broy. They got a lot more NCAA banners hanging on the walls than we do.
  10. GG was offered and accepted an UNLV scholie. That school's not noted for recruiting non athletic types. I'm guessing he's athletic but very raw. If he can be coached up, I'm rolling with FDLove's take on him.
  11. On my return trip back to Charleston after this year's game against Temple, I happened to pick up Rick Pitino's radio show. You should have heard him berating his players. "Clueless", "Out of Control", "Selfish", were just a few of the terms he used to describe some of his players. I guess some HC's see the media as a motivational tool. I mean his whole tone during that program was one of disgust with his team. Now they're in the sweet 16. As for RM comments, I sense a little egotism is at play here, ie "I don't have any 5 stars or future pros, we're winning because I'm a damn genius when it comes to BB."
  12. Yes, we will miss BC for a variety of reasons; passion, leadership, work ethic. But on the surface you've got to like what we've got coming back next year. Two guys at 6'11, two at 6'8", a potentially consistent double double machine at 6'5", an M1 tank in GG, and a 6'6" rook who might be a DE clone. Out of this group, RL could have the most favorable impact. He showed signs of coming around to the physicality of D1 ball this year. If the light goes on for him, he could be RM's next Van Horn by working on his footwork around the basket, developing those inside touch shots, and forcing hiself to jam it home by getting aggressive with his body. You can't teach 7'0 and good bigs are hard to stop. Hopefully, BC's staying around St.Louis after his wedding and works with our inside guys. Put him on the staff, RM, it can't hurt.
  13. I posted the above before reading about Nicholson and the turnaround at ST.B's. Good story. Good for St. B's, who we knock on here every chance we get. As for the kid from Iowa. Whew, he looks like a stick of angel hair pasta in that photo. Get that boy to a Golden Corral and don't let him out until about his 5th visit thru the buffet line.
  14. They all majored in welding at Vo Tech High Schools.
  15. BC's undersized and has athletic limitations. He achieved everything thru hard work. Great kid, great Billiken, and we'll miss him. But he's not that 6-8" PF whose both quick and got some hops. By the way Draymond Green is a real hybrid not your protypical PF, but I'd kill for a player with his mindset and skills. If it wasn't for him we'd have creamed MSU by double digits.
  16. Bay, that payday's always been there. Look at the last time we played them. It was a huge financial success. Now that the Bills have got some buzz going for 'em and Mizzery's, despite the loss, inherited buzz, they might have to play it in the Scott. It's going to be interesting to see how the OSU and Cincy game plays out this weekend. For 50 years OSU has refused to play UC. I'm assuming for the same reason Mizzery refuses to play us, ie being the State's flagship program is at serious risk. When UK lost to UL way back in the 80s that prompted UK to make that an annual game. Let's see what OSU does if they lose to Cincy.
  17. Gotlieb knows his stuff. He picked us to down Messphis on Selection Sunday.
  18. Oh yeah, I bet RM's thrilled about going down to MI ST. Cripes, he'd be huffing and puffing in Dec and January in MI. At least St.L only gets humid from July and August.
  19. You know, I was disappointed not to see the good Fr. B in Columbus this weekend. He should have been there to press the flesh. This is what scares me about sustaining what went on this weekend. If the Admin and the board aren't behind this 120% it will die again, and we'll sink back into the blackhole of hoops mediocrity.
  20. Too tired to look it up, but whoever said they were at one of the regionals, not Columbus, and the Mizzery fan walked in and said, "we'd kick SLU's ass" and his wife responded with, "well play us, ya *****." This woman is nominated for the Billikens. com HOF. Even Jimbo wouldn't have been that quick.
  21. I'm blaming Broy if he's not extended, WPJ. By the way, someone said here that they saw SLUPERMAN t's in Columbus. I saw the sign, it was everywhere inside the tent, but didn't see any T's. Of course, I was pretty well blasted inside the tent. Are they out there? Available?
  22. Agreed. the refs have stopped a lot of games this year to look at crap like that. In any event. way to take one for the team CE.
  23. Here's the way to look at it, after all all knowing Slu72 sees all , his mom has passed. He's unwed. He lives in a hotel, granted a very nice hotel. He has no children that I know about. The man's life is basketball and hopefully Billiken basketball. Tonight, I went to our clubhouse bar and everyone was like, SLU looked good. They could have taken down the Spartys. A couple of guys said they didn't know RM was our coach, otherwise they would've taken the Bills to the sweet 16. Point being, wouldn't you think RM would like his legacy to be how he took a program going nowhere and turned it into a name school? Also, it seems he now believes his SLU is his family. His kids. Didn't he say he wouldn't lie to recruits and that he'd be here? The emotion that poured out of Conklin on Sunday night would probably have happened no matter who they interviewed. RM loves them, they love him. Who's ever responsible for getting him an extension should do it now... and be quick about it. Will he leave to coach someplace else? Probably not, unless it's a school like Michigan State where the name of the school, and his, will have recruits calling them. But that's not gonna happen. In RM we should trust.
