Bradley Ezewiro goes to UAB. Stef Van Bussel and Djordje Curcic both end up at Charleston.

I’ll have to take in a few CofC games to catch Curcic and VanB. I wonder if they would have stayed at SLU if Schertz had kept Harriman.

We need to replace Julian Larry - PG. Dotzler will be in the mix, but I hope/expect we will land an experienced PG with one of the three remaining spots. I think the combo of Anya/AJ will be at least equal to Kent- who was nothing special until last year. Conwell is better all around than Gibby, but we’ll be fine there.

I expect Schertz will have a deeper roster, the question that remains is will his starting 5 be as good as last year?

Our starting 5 last year or ISU’s? Wouldn’t take much to be better than ours.

So in effect we plug in  Gibby for Cornwell and Anya for Kent to recreate the ISU success story. Add with  Swope and SLUAlcindor what piece are we missing. Is it Dotzler or Junior? If I were Thames, Junior, and Dotzler I’d be in the gym every day with that shot recording machine shooting 300-500 3’s a day. We should terrorize the A10. And there I go again getting carried away again. But you can’t deny Schertz is building his kind of roster. Who in the A10 is gonna matchup with bigs like Avila and Anya? Still worried a little about D but in Schertz I trust. Best I can figure out starting 4 puts up almost 60 ppg on average. Not many teams can say that. I welcome WIZ’s analysis of our latest addition.

  4. Only one mid listed. Yep, Zaga. I’m not sure what Houston is but they were numero uno. We got listed at #5 below the line, so ESPN predicts we are in top 30. Other below the line mid was San Diego St. I’m not going to get overly excited, yet, it’s heartening to see us listed after the last two seasons train wrecks. The hangover in 22-23 lingers. After all we SLU. But let’s go with the positive. Schertz has had an impact and am looking forward to Oct.

One question; where did Caleb Love transfer to? AZ was listed in the top 25 but he was not listed as a starter. Curious is all. I don’t want him. Chemistry killer.

  5. D worries me. A10 guards lick their chops when we’re their next game up. Remember Rick’s mantra Defend and Rebound. He got this from Al McGuire who said something like offense is like a flighty girlfriend. Hot and Cold. But D and Boards are the constants.

According to nba.com Robbie’s not on the radar for the 2025 draft.  He’s not projected to be drafted in 2026 either.

Things can change, but we should plan on 2 seasons.

I hope so too. But he still needs a backup. In CJS I trust.

  7. I’d be wary of any more FR unless they’re a game changer. They’re likely gonna sit, get ticked off, and then leave. Fill it out with experienced guys to provide cover for injuries. Find an Avila in training and he’ll likely stay because Robbie may go pro after this season. His backup will then see potential minutes in his future and likely stay.

Toward the end of last season, Thames showed an ability to drive into the lane and then pull up over a big to hit a ten foot shot.  I hope Schertz sees that when reviewing film and encourages that aspect of his game.  If so, and if he improves his three point shooting, I think Thames could have a big breakout season.

Plus, didn’t Schertz coach up a couple of his starters? Or at least his system worked out well for them.

It happens a lot more than you'd think. Guys participate in an open gym and everyone realizes "Ah he's actually not good/good fit/good attitude/whatever." Or guys come in and theres some sort of demand made for playing time, a new John Deere tractor, or a specific position that the staff doesn't line up with. Or guys come in and they themselves realize "I'm not good enough to get playing time here" and drop their interest.

Hell, a Deere tractor would be a bargain today.
