  1. now its has gone from Tony is afraid to use young pitchers (see Johnson and Wainwright today) to....."Tony is afraid to pitch his young talent in super-pressure packed games like a game 5"! Why not just jump to the 7th game of a World Series in Yankee Stadium......hilarious stuff!!
  2. not sure the attached has been posted anywhere.....some interesting numbers. http://slubillikens.cstv.com/genrel/100306aae.html
  3. I agree 3star, imo the truest combo-guard is the point guard who can also shoot at the two-guard spot. The typical combo guard is a two-guard that in an emergency is willing to play the point. I'm trying to think if SLU ever had a legit combo guard......(prior to the current roster)
  4. bringing in multiple recruits is okay if you are recruiting several different positions. But you are not going to bring in three point guards at the same time when you only need to sign one of them! at times, coaches like to bring in jucos in pairs (if they play different positions), particularly if they have competed against each other somewhere along the juco trail.
  5. A couple of thoughts....Reyes had his chance Sunday against Milwaukee to make a statement about helping against San Diego, but he failed to impress anyone. While Marquis would have about the same pitching value this week as Reyes....at least Marquis can pitch-hit or pitch-run in an extra inning game.
  6. Cajun....yes, Coach Soderberg has stated many times that redshirting is a MUTUAL decision between the player and the SLU staff. No, SLU never offered Moosmann a scholarship.....end of story.
  7. Nate, Moosmann was not offered a SLU scholarship. I enjoyed watch Moosmann play AAU ball....he and his AAU teammate, Dustin Maguire, made a nice perimeter combo and together they must have scored about 80% of their team's points. I would not have offered Moos, only because I would not want two guys the size of Polk and Moos on the roster at the same time....just my personal preference. I also thought that perhaps Grunkemeyer may have put his former school, Miami of Ohio, on to Moosmann.
  8. SLU and the coaching staffs should work hard to graduate every student athlete it signs. However, a person who does not attend college or does not complete a degree can still be a high character person and a contributing member of the community. It was your word "doomed" that caught my attention. btw, I have read enough "goof-ball" post on this board to know that graduating from college doesn't guarantee intelligence or maturity. Peace!
  9. my father and uncles would be disappointed to know they were "doomed" as being only union electricans, ironworkers, carpenters, police officers. my stay-at-home mother, having her husband home from work every day at 4:15pm to enjoy their three childrens lives (through their college days), may not have considered her husband as "doomed". a daughter, with her two masters degrees, would certainly love to have some of my mother's family time. Big salaries are nice, but they comes at a serious family price. kshoe, I understand your point, but I think a generalized "doomed" is a bit strong!
  10. skip....if there was an "insider" he/she wouldn't claim to be an insider!
  11. Unca....are you sure about Dixon. How can anyone signed in late-June or early-July be any good?
  12. of the 12 scholarship players on the current SLU roster....6 (50%) have either redshirted at SLU or attended a 5th-year prep school: Brown > Air Force Academy Prep School Dixon > Fort Union Prep School Liddell > Hargrave Military Prep School Ikeakor > SLU freshman redshirt JJohnson > SLU freshman redshirt Hysak > SLU freshman redshirt On day one, Coach Soderberg stated you win with mature juniors and seniors, particularly redshirted juniors and seniors. ACE, sounds like you and Soderberg are on the same track regarding a mature roster!
  13. better yet skipper....some posters are willing to judge the 2006-2007 recruiting class at the conclusion of the mid-November 2006 signing period!
  14. what is that talent level with your Eagles group?
  15. an interesting question/poll would be ..... how long will Bonner coach at Vashon.....1-3 years, 3-5 years.....5-10......10+ years?
  16. It's getting past my bedtime, but I'll try this one more time. is a Top 350 recruit signed in the Fall better than a Top 350 recruit sign in the Spring? if SMS had signed Bruce Ahearn in the Spring, would he have been a better recruit if he would have been signed in the Fall? if you sign a really good player that fills a positional need....does it really matter what month he commits or what month he signs?
  17. is a top 25 recruit that signs in the Fall better than a top 25 player that signs in the Spring? is a top 100 recruit that signs in the Fall better than a top 100 player that signs in the Spring? is a top 200 recruit that signs in the Fall better than a top 200 player that signs in the Spring? is a totally unknown juco that signs in the Fall better than a virtually unknown juco that signs in the Spring?
  18. cheese.....where did I say (1) it was not important to recruit well??? and (2)....where did I say the Fall signing period was not important??? Please answer where I made those statements. I continue to say that you need to sign good players every year, but it makes me no difference if those good players are signed in November, April, May, June, July or August. (see post #12 above and my previous posts for my consistent position.) Some fans, particularly impatient fans, need the early commitments regardless of the player quality.
  19. win and losses will determine Coach Soderberg's fate, not September comittments. btw, SLU has done a mountain of work already on the 2008 recruiting class.
  20. Cheesie, please check out the below bio on SLU volleyball player Mo Shortal.....and that info should solve your problem.....maybe! http://slubillikens.cstv.com/sports/w-voll...ortal_mo00.html
  21. cheeese said, "we do need to start using our schollies in the Fall period and getting good players" I can agree with your last three words...."getting (more) good players". However, it makes absolutely no difference to me WHEN we get the "good" player as long as we get them. Sign them in November, April, May, June, July or August.....just balance the roster with more good players.
  22. Hardball (aka PHOG), when you go after talented players like Pullen there is always going to be significant recruiting competition....you win a few and you lose alot.....so then you go to the next available players!
  23. Saturday night, SLU beat Temple 3-1 (21-30,30-16,30-23 30-16). Temple, an annual power in the A-10, is co-favorite along with Dayton to win the 2006 A-10 title. SLU is now 2-0 after the first weekend of A-10 play. SLU v-ball starts three freshmen players who are the volleyball equivalent of Tommie Liddell and Kevin Lisch. A couple of talented seniors, juniors and sophs as well. In another two years, SLU women's teams in soccer, volleyball and basketball will all three be in the top tier of the A-10 competing for the league titles and NCAA bids.
