  1. I do homebrew when time allows. Our Food Editor has even given it a positive response. Is anyone else brave enough?
  2. Put me in the camp with Box and One on the White Castle issue. I don't even think Bombers should be classified as "food." Only ate Sliders once--and only 3 or 4 at that--and about 6 hours later spent a long period leaning over the toilet. I recall it each time I near the intersection of Big Bend and Manchester, the location of that memorable meal. I would sooner consider a Boone's Farm beverage at a wine tasting than I would think of anything from the Castle in a list of "edibles!"
  3. Taj is right: the group named is certainly most representative of the earlier years of Billiken hockey. (I hadn't thought of Kevin Healy in years. Didn't he have a problem with a detached retina after an auto accident?) You'd think that they might have an easier time coming up with some of the local players from the later years, e.g. Denk, Pupillo. I can't imagine Dick M. would have been invited. I'll never forget listening in on a conversation Dick was having with Ricky Frasier over lunch at the Co-Op. They both sounded like they would have had trouble earning any college credits at SLU.
  4. The Billiken does seem to be in an angry mood and is averting his eyes!
  5. I read with interest the earlier thread in which Skip, et al, discussed Huggins and his court appearance. Since no one else made any mention of the Wed. radio guest on the Frank and Tim show, I'll give you all a summary of what was said. The guest was Cincy radio personality Bill Cunningham. They wanted his take on the Bob Huggins situation. In his opinion, Huggins has been, and continues to be, on a path of self-destruction. Despite his recent heart attack, he continues to overeat and gain weight; he smokes; he has an obvious problem with alcoholism. He is known sometimes to be hammered the night prior to basketball games. Cunningham described previous instances of "day-long binges" which included police involvement, but in which the police simply took the coach home. The University is not happy with the situation. The administration wants him to enter a legitimate alcoholism program along the lines of the Betty Ford clinic. To this point Huggins is refusing to do so. Frank asked Cunningham what he thought the odds would be of Huggins coaching another Bearcats game. His answer: maybe one in five.
  6. >http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2004/basketball/ncaa...huggins_all.jpg > "Listen here, officer! I'm a cardiac patient. A drink a day keeps the doctor away. I take mine in a Seven/Eleven Big Gulp Cup!"
  7. Has anyone heard any mention of the academic situations of either Newborne or Alexander? Hearing the description of Antwan's playing ability, I would have to assume that he took the JC route strictly because high school and/or ACT performance did not make him eligible. Has this been rectified? I'd hate to get another eleventh hour surprise reminiscent of that with Brandon Morris.
  8. I have to admit to being relatively uninformed about these "Prep Schools." (I hear that term and think of SLUH, CBC, Vianney, etc.) How many years can one go to post high school prep school? I am assuming TL is, nevertheless, on track to get his high school diploma this spring. Am I right? I also hate to be one of Spiro's "nabobs of negativity," but everyone speaks as if our concern with a year of prep school is the risk of another school snatching TL away. The debate rages on as to whether he will remain committed to SLU. Isn't it a DISTINCT possibility that, despite an additional year of preparation, he will remain academically ineligible?
  9. Hey, folks--the Desir guy on Channel 2 can be truly annoying. There have been times when he has used so much hip hop/rap speech I couln't even understand the point of what he was saying. My favorite sports guy in the last 20 years was Art Holliday. He moved over to news so long ago that most people have forgotten he did sports.
  10. >Remember the weather guy they hired >before Cindy Presler - Paul something? He had absolutely no >personality whatsoever, and had a short stay in St. Louis. >I've seen him recently on The Weather Channel. You are referring to Paul Goodloe.
  11. The last time I heard discussion of a "dead period" I started worrying about being a father again.
  12. I don't see a belated opportunity as a problem. If we beat the self-important Fighting French we should return at the earliest possible date, and with frequency thereafter, to rub ther noses in it!
  13. I seem to recall hearing it discussed on the radio that Channel 5 management felt its hands were tied during the Rene hiring--he was somewhat thrust upon the station by the network.
  14. Now that personalities have shown a propensity for surprising programmers with their actions as well as their words, perhaps "live" video broadcasts will institute delay as audio has done on radio, selectively, for many years.
  15. Haven't they missed only ~3 attempts in the 2nd half?
  16. Sloan 0 for 6 from 3 pt range. OUch!
  17. 3 minutes in and we got away from what works best for us: tight defense, work slow on offense. Need to get back to our game!
  18. Roy always takes the opportunity to comment on the game coaching of coach Cal. So consider this space reserved_______.
  19. We ate a minute off the clock. Next Memphis State posession--Fish with a steal. Next Memphis State possession--Drejaj withj a steal! Tiggers falling apart!
  20. 3 and a half minutes to go and they're fouling deliberately! This is feeling good...
  21. Billikens...Better than ANY Tigers! "Walkin' In Memphis" is a turnover. There is no Pyramid Power!
  22. My most vivid memory of that game is of me, holding my breath, as Tatum was forced to take a long outside shot with the shot clock about to run out. It went in, and was somewhat of a turning point in the game.
  23. So many things would be in Belmont's favor to give them "bubble" consideration. But they obviously lack any "quality" wins.
  24. I guess if that James Carville/Mary Matalin arrangement can work, you should be able to share living space with a Mizzou fan. But if he'll have a Tiger paw on the wall, make sure you stick up for your right to have your Billiken pennants on the opposite wall.
  25. Is this a kid you already know, or a student new to GW (e.g. a Freshman) next year? The critical information for you is what allegiance he may have to SPUMAC. He's obviously not going to Mizzou nest year, so that's a sign of his ability to think critically.
