  1. i would agree with that. imo tommie is somewhere between douglas and hughes. and probably leans towards hughes skills more than douglas. jalensdad compared him to jalen rose, which i can somewhat see. however i always thought rose played somewhat stiff and mechanical, where hughes was smooth. from that standpoint that is why i say closer to larry. dont get me wrong, i dont think he is hughes. but he is more of an overall talent than douglas was. i do agree with the earlier statement that douglas might have been more explosive. monroe could go get that high pass. maybe only jeffers compares to douglas in that regard imo when thinking of recent billiken players.
  2. stokes was 17-34 from the field against the billikens last year.
  3. i did not know that. strange, but brad recently told us the story of wisconsin when bennett signed his final four team out of high school. they all visited during signing week and signed on the spot according to his story.
  4. you are the one that is the instigator. you come to a billiken site with your marquette superior attitude constantly. you need to look in the mirror and maybe take your own advice.
  5. randy pulley was/is lousy. stokes shot 42% from the field last year which isnt bad. i guess i do need to come off of pretty good and maybe label that as average. it seemed he always shot pretty well though against the billikens.
  6. and while that may seem to not be a correct approach, steve, sadly too often that is what life is about......figuring out the system.
  7. while winning 3 point contests is probably not in tommie's future, he isnt an atrocious shooter either. i have seen a lot worse in the billiken lineup over history. i am betting tommie will be a good shooter someday. for now i am down with saying it isnt his strength.
  8. 3 star, i thought stokes was a pretty good shooter. i dont think tommie has that good of a stroke yet.
  9. imo, monroe sr never came close to the dribbling and passing ability that tommie possesses. while tommy is a leaper as well, my memory of some of the alley oops that monroe converted tells me that douglas might have been an even better jumper.
  10. i might be wrong, but i believe the official fall signing date is either november the 5th or 12th. i would bet since the recruits are all local, brad will make a big public spectacle of them all signing together on that date. at least i would if i was brad.
  11. sorry, tiger alums run that board. you wont get any help from us. my advice is to get a new e-mail addy, change your moniker and start over. the mike smith guy that moderates that board isnt going to give any billiken fan a break.
  12. thank you jalensdad for the heads up on this days ago. it sure has made the days go by better waiting for the announcement. you need to go get yourself a billiken blue hat now.
  13. i have never seen jeff on press row for a billiken game. so he probably doesnt really have an accurate view of the talent level the billikens have. maybe all he has to go on is bradley center courtside's opinion. that said, all in all, i thought it was a pretty good article. especially considering jeff's college roots, he is a pretty good friend of the billikens imo.
  14. i like the a-10 issue. lots of subject matter to draw from there. you could always try to present both sides of the on campus arena or not.
  15. billiken law said, "They pretty much stopped recruiting him early this summer after his first ACT scores came out" i thought i had heard that tommie had never taken the act because before now he knew he wasnt ready to even attempt it. i might be wrong though.
  16. so happens, that apparently, althoff has a freshman that has enrolled that might end up being pretty darn good as well. 6'6" and jumps through the roof. coach lieb told me that he might end up being the second best player this year already. i think the kid's last name is felton. lives in madison or lovejoy.
  17. nothing wrong with working at a country station. the way "rock music" has progressed, i find myself listening to more and more country music all the time. i simply dont get the rap and screaming metal music a bit. plus, most of what you hear on the country stations these days is nowhere near what we grew up believing country music was. i mean much of it doesnt even have a steel guitar or banjo anymore. not that there is anything wrong with that, but the point is the old divisions of music categories seems to blur more and more all the time. this morning while exercising at the the club i work out at, i saw four videos on cmt in a row. the first one had jimmy buffet singing with a country star, the second had john mellencamp singing with someone, the next was a video by the eagles and then there was a martina mcbride video that could easily have passed for a pat benatar song and sound 20 years ago.
  18. imo, brad soderberg is here for the long haul. however, if he would continue to grow the program and succeed to his own goals ("my goal is to win championships. why not at st louis" - brad soderberg) then who knows, someone makes him the financial deal of a lifetime he cant pass up. but to worry about brad soderberg leaving at this stage in time is just being an unnecessary worrywart. now something that might make slu chase him away is if slu went to a lesser conference like the mvc or the horizon. doing that would lower the slu ncaa money and tv money to the point that they could probably no longer afford to keep him (see bruce weber at siu) even at just his current salary. another reason NOT to go to the mvc.
  19. just because they have no scholarships available this minute does not preclude marquette from offering one now. the key is that they have to have one available for everyone next fall when school would start and they have to remain in the boundaries of the 8/5 rule. i.e. if the kid at the end of the bench that hasnt played the last year or two "decides" he would be better off going elsewhere to finish his college basketball career. amazingly, they would have a scholarship now available. we have yet to see crean play this game in the past. however, there are plenty of coaches that play this game quite often. spumac seems to be an expert at the juggling game.
  20. while i do not think marquette is a player. and it is true they have their scholarships spoken for already, it is not unusual for a school to "overbook" their scholarships. amazing how schools always seem to have a scholarship open up when they need one.
  21. we indeed do have the inside track on kevin lisch though imo. the question will be if he can stand up to the probable onslaught of negative recruiting he will hear the next 12 months.
  22. lisch met with bruce weber yesterday. :-( anyone that cant see what a huge get soderberg was is just being obstinate. for romar to have the confidence and security to even bring brad here is amazing imo.
  23. bonner was a great player. at this time, izik is no anthony bonner. i would bet all that anthony is saying is that if izik wants to be a star, he is going to have to work very hard, improve his overall game and CONSISTENTLY produce. until then, he is nothing more than glimmering potential. the reason i agree with bonner comparing the two teams is that bonner and gray are head and shoulders better than our current inside game. from a guard perspective, i dont think that is the case.
