  1. funny you dont know the answer a-bomb since it is a military "training" film.
  2. http://basketballboards.net/forum/forumdis...p?s=&forumid=40 http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewforum.php...484b0a6ae0461bc
  3. judging by the 3 recruits we already have and the makeup of the billikens that will return, i would pass on terry evans. it is unfortunate he has had the knee problem, but he needs to get well and prove himself all over again. my guess is that terry will have to go to a juco for at least a year to prove he has the ability to play division one basketball again.
  4. sludrew said, "I am sure Kevin Lisch is a nice ballplayer, but with all due respect, if we keep signing the Kevin Linsch's of the world we stay where we are. We will always be that scrappy Billiken bunch that plays tough D, scores in the 50's, and finishes around .500." i'll be sure to tell bill self, bruce weber and mike davis what a huge mistake they are making recruiting kevin lisch instead of an injured terry evans. you obviously have never seen kevin lisch play.
  5. wow, there you go slu marketing geniuses. proof of what was once just a thought. the billiken attracts chicks. (if it works for decrepid dixie, my gosh it works!) now get that out there and we can probably fund the athletic department on that alone.
  6. i check the washington post about every other day specifically to see if there is any hughes news. plus i read two wizards message boards. the talk all winter was he would be traded as there was no room in the backcourt for him. about two weeks ago an article was printed that said he really worked hard on the weights in the offseason and shot a lot. today the follow up on his game last night vs the knicks was very positive. he started as the 2 guards (moved stackhouse to small forward) and led the team in points, minutes played, steals, and was only one off the team lead in rebounds as well. the message boards are now changing their tune as well thinking a different larry. i am the biggest hughes fan in the world, but i too would say he has not lived up to the potential. yet, that doesnt mean he has been a failure. especially considering he is still just 24 years old.
  7. we lost out on brandon by one class that he didnt test up to slu standards. he was ok per the ncaa. we got frericks. my guess is that brad will screen the candidates upfront enough to know who is worthy and who is not.
  8. if this was a democracy (and billkenland is not) then i would vote for no more projects in the middle as well. at least until our others are up and in full operation. as the peasants that we are though, we will have to wait until czar brad decides.
  9. pretty cool. justin with a showstopper!
  10. rich, i am not against your logic at all. however, i am betting there are some supreme late bloomers out there in juco land. hopefully one has the credits to get into slu accordingly. if not, hold it for next year or at least wait and see if terry is healthy.
  11. thicks said, "One thing about success in the NBA isn't that it always has to do with raw talent, but that it has to do with being in the right situation at the right time. I think that if you get Anthony Bonner in the right situation, he's still playing in the NBA." i totally agree with that statement. the coaches can make or break the players with opportunities and sit downs. i think bonner could hammer the hell out of some of these kids pretending to be power forwards these days. the same can be said about just about any pro sport. i guess it goes to show you better grab it while you can.
  12. i am not a medical expert by any means, but isnt there a huge difference in the knee injuries of polk and evans? polk broke a bone, while terry tore tendons or cartlidge. i have always assumed bones heal, but tendon/cartlidge tears never really repair themselves and there really isnt procedures to make them better or the same. is that wrong?
  13. cu, one of my favorite all-time autobiographies is "ghetto to glory". i bet i read it 10x. i recall in the book that gibson was told by the cardinals he had to quit the globetrotters. he even considered quitting the cardinals to be a full time globetrotter. doesnt gibby still live in the omaha area?
  14. alamada, fyi, dave luechtifeld had a storied career as one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in illinois, and now is a state senator representing southern illinois at the illinois general assembly.
  15. numberswise, imo we are fine even if we sign no one. thicks pointed out a few weeks ago that our sophomores equal drejaj and that is it. a juco player sure would even out recruiting down the road.
  16. 3 star, of course north carolina might have been the most undisciplined basketball teams i ever saw last year as well. firing that worthless coach was the smartest thing the unc people ever did. i noticed no other college jumped up to grab his remains.
  17. hehehehehe nate, where did we ever find you?
  18. while i was in awe of larry hughes that one season at slu, and larry had moments and games that were almost surreal (the marquette game, the ball off of samaki walkers head for a dunk), the real appreciation for what larry hughes was came following the next season. virtually the entire team back and add justin love. they werent even a 500 team. go read the quotes about larry after last nights games on the message boards and in the washington post. he might be finally about to break out to the standards aj seems to think he needs to be at to NOT be considered a failure in aj's eyes. p.s. aj, if hughes is not a success, then pray tell as thicks points out, what do you consider peeler, chievous, sundvold, dooling, smith, etc that never did anymore if even as good as what larry has already done in the nba? you got a boatload of failures then i guess.
  19. not sure why we would want to take another wing this year. especially if we truly are in the playing field for lisch.
  20. romar used to say that he wanted to be the first or the last visit a recruit got. felt that anything in between spelled doom or at least a tough uphill battle. the last guy in has all the advantage of being able to get the family to summarize their experiences and point to the last guy as the right guy.
  21. maybe the reason that both eggerson and lisch stick in my mind is the extra season enabled both to accomplish academic goals as well. it wasnt soley for sports reasons. i like that. i am sure there are others as well. bryce's situation sure would make sense to me. the more time he and ian have to grow into their bodies the more they will be able to produce down the road when hopefully the billikens are beginning to reach the next level. i wonder if ian sits the entire season as a redshirt, is he still subject to the 10 game penalty the next season? if not, maybe that might make sense. let ian sit this season and bryce next. that would be too convienent though. my guess is he has to serve that penalty at some time before he can play.
  22. eggerson wanted to get his elementary education degree and olsen i believe wanted eggerson to play the following season when he was losing a couple of players. lisch didnt want to sit another season behind montana thus redshirted and got to start the following season. plus, it allowed rusty to gain his architecture degree. no injuries were involved. both cases it enabled the coach to work the roster to the teams benefit.
  23. just what exactly constitutes success in the nba? first off he just made it. how few even do that? then he has been a starter for most of his 5 seasons. and has averaged double digits throughout. just tonite he lead the team in minutes played and points. his fg% for the game was 62% and he had less turnovers then arenas did. if becoming an all-star is the only sign of nba success, it is sad that so few ever attain it. i think your grading scale is a little tough. that said, it will be interesting to see if mckinney ever starts most of the games for missouri the rest of his career, let alone ever make the nba. with conley in town and horton on the way, he may join johnny parker on the "why the hell did i ever come here?" list.
  24. arizona had a senior that redshirted before his senior season. i think his name was eggerson? rusty lisch redshirted his senior season at notre dame. those are the two that come to mind.
  25. your reasoning makes sense. i hope you are right. but keep in mind that painter is feeling pressure and i am sure wants someone to commit this fall. i dont think anyone has yet.
