slufanskip
but isn't the academics why people donate to Wash U? Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
bonwich
Actually, in terms of endowments, WashU has roughly SIX TIMES the money that SLU does ($4.2B vs. $750M). Then again, despite the relative on-court "success" in recent years, SLU has roughly FIVE TIMES the money that Gonzaga does. Go figure. slufanskip
Just a guess ... I really don't know much about the donations made to schools ... but isn't Wash U one of the top med schools in the country ... as in top 5 or close. Maybe that is why they get alot of money donated Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Waldman
bonwich
> They have a fantastic national academic reputation. And an incredible faculty. Don't forget the part about the incredible faculty. By the way, if anyone's interested, here's the table of endowments for American colleges and universities. (I'm not sure why, but SLU's not on it. I think the relevant number is $750.1M, which would place us 78th, ironically displacing Georgetown from that spot.) http://www.nacubo.org/documents/about/FY05...TotalAssets.pdf
Bay Area Billiken
Why did Wash U. deemphasize sports and drop all the way down to Division 3? That was well before my time. Wash U. is sometimes known as the Harvard of the Midwest. Yet the Ivy League has always been Division 1 in sports. At one time, both SLU and Wash U. were members of the Missouri Valley Conference. kevinfootes
My reply to Rich was based on his comment about me, not necessarily the rest of his post. Thanks for being reasonable.
bonwich
I must admit I didn't know Wash U was once in the Valley. (Of course, 1946 is a bit before my time .) http://bearsports.wustl.edu/history/history.html
kevinfootes
I have some issues with Biondi, but overall he's been very good down there. I jsut don't think they should have made the announcement without something more concrete. Who knows, maybe things fell through.
kevinfootes
I just don't understnad why they announced the arena without funding on place. I was using Wash U as a point of comparison, although the two schools are defintely different.
AlumniFan
I would agree that Biondi got ahead of himself. I believe that he thought he had a lot more money lined up than what actually happened. That said, I still believe the arena will be a reality and will be what most of us want. Billiken Rich
I never accused you of anything, footes. Your presence here constitutes an annoyance. Heat with no light as they say. Clutter with little substance in my opinion. Do you have a guilty conscience?
