Billikenbooster
Women are tied for sixth in the midwest, while the men were unranked last week and are ninth in the district. We play at Dusquesne this weekend, who are now ranked 16th in the nation. A win there is mandatory, especially with the league tournament coming up soon. mhg
slufanskip
In the college soccer news poll the men are 3rd in others receiving votes ... which would make them 33. The soccer Buzz poll has the women 4th in the region and earning their first nat'l top 30 ranking at 29th. Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. Billsboys
The Women ranked higher than the Men, WOW!!! How things have changed!
slufanskip
I haven't seen them play yet this year. I usually see a game or 2. I think they have 2 home games left Friday the 28th and Sun the 30th. I am going to try and see the Friday game Official Billikens.com sponsor of H. kwyjibo
I know nothing about Duquesne but they have played only 3 teams with winning records all year and have managed to play 1-2 against them. They have played a very soft schedule, which in and of itself does not mean much, but computer rankings that take into account strength of schedule have SLU ranked higher. SLU should be around 30th in the computer rankings going into the game. Duquesne obviously have gotten the job done pretty consistently (which is an accomplishment in college soccer where inferior teams can play to tie) so this is a big game. courtside
Yes...the polls are interesting for conversation, but that is about it. It is simple for SLU women...they have a nice team...but haven't defeated a high quality opponent during regular season this year. They defeated Marquette in pre-season, but doesn't count. And they lost to Duke and Santa Clara...3 very tough and highly ranked opponents...but the one win didn't count...and two hard fought losses. SLU women need to win out, and their conference tourney to get in the rankings. They can play with many teams. But they are not over the hump of beating the top level teams. SLU men. Must win all remaining games to get ranked, period. 4 road games in a row. Any more losses at this point would not be good. More pressure is on them to win the conference tournament played at SLU this year. They MUST win that.
