I agree the fight was probably a net for SLU in terms of publicity and enthusiasm.  However, a negative in terms of game day management and ongoing issues.

I have no issue with the portion of the AD email read.  I think they should have waited on suspensions of ticket holders until there was some evidence of wrong doing.  I was at UGA vs UT last CFB season when students littered the field. The UT response was harsh, partially due to threats by the SEC. It included the threat of ending all alcohol sales at games.

Great point on game management.

It’s an interesting dynamic, in that I’m not sure Chris May or Athletics has a direct hand in scheduling security or ushers. In my mind, the OakView Group shoulders 90% of the blame.

Should May and staff have been proactive in advising OVG of the potential for friction between Russell family and SLU fans? Maybe. There has never really been anything close to what we saw last week. DPS usually shows up, has nothing to do and then hides in the bowels somewhere.

Obviously the buck always stops with May on matters of athletics. It would directly fall on Facility Ops, but I don’t know how much say they even have on Chaifetz ops.

I don't blame May for the delay in response.  But public sentiment will focus on SLU because they have no clue Oak View Group exists or that it manages the arena.  Now I would certainly implement a review of OVG public safety response procedures for each type of SLU event.  I would also make that review an annual requirement.  That would be conducting due diligence and ensure that any legal ramifications fall squarely on OVG for mismanagement.

There's going to be law suits filed by anyone that sustained an injury real or imagined in the brawl. It's a PR black eye for SLU but a legal issue for OVG.

However in terms of buzz it was good.  But the loss in the next game probably erased that buzz.
